View 3 RepliesI am planning to buy a USB barcode reader. I don't want to use it as a keyboard wedge scanner.But before I do I wonder if it's possible to see whether the input comes from a barcode reader.I need a Windows Service that detects whether a barcode is scanned and depending on the text on the barcode starts another program.Is this possible and has anyone experience with this?
View 4 Replieshowever, I am stuck at BinaryReader.actually this is what i am trying to acheive through VB.NET.say for the following file type :
JPG file = FF D8 FF E0
BMP file = 42 4D BE 4E
PNG file = 89 50 4E 47
GIF file = 47 49 46 38
the above are the 4-byte headers in Hex(raw) I need to read these headers of any given file using OpenFileDialog using Button1_click event,on selection of any given file(*.* filters ON)it should use the BinaryReader and look for only 4-bytes starting from offset 0, and it should not go to EOF marker (-1).and have a variable to hold this 4-byte header value, to run this in a database table which will check the same header value in the table and would display the corresponding extension of the file. from the table.
I can do this using case, if then...etc.however, I have to do it using Database and also i need to check for testing purpose to use MsgBox() to display this variable which is holding the 4-byte header.however, the MsgBox doesnt allow anything other than String.
PS: I tried studying the methods like:
FileOpen/Seek/Peek/ReadBytes().
but still not sure how to get them work.
I have a problem with the code, I have input the valid username and password in the form textbox to input the strings in php, but it keep displaying the messagebox that says login failed.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
MessageBox.Show("Please enter your username")
ElseIf Textbox2.Text = Nothing Then
MessageBox.Show("Please enter your password")
Else
[CODE]...
I don't really know why it keep displaying the messagebox that says it failed when I have input the valid strings in the first place.

View 1 RepliesI am having an issue with both Adobe Reader and FoxIt Reader when trying to print a PDF document. Both issues are different but a solution to either one will allow me to fix my issue.The issue I am having with Adobe Reader when trying to print using the following code is that it will not print it to the network printer I specify but just the default printer.
Dim AdobeReader As New Process
AdobeReader.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = False
AdobeReader.StartInfo.Verb = "print"

In VB.NET I've got two forms, on first one I have button, on second - two textboxes and "OK" button. I want to run procedure (Sub) on first form, then stop in the middle of it and wait for input on the second form. After that i want to process the data received from second form.
It looks something like this:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
'Open form2 for input
[CODE]...
The question is how to call the Form2 so that procedure is stoped till the second form is closed?
I'm attempting to download a file with a custom "message" i.e. with specific bytes sent to a server. I am using the lightweight utorrent setup file which could be easily downloaded with the statement in the first code tag or even using a WebRequest, WebResponse, StreamReader etc. But for some reasons I need to be able to code the "message". I would explain why but that would just be a diversion...Anyway the problem is that the packet gets saved in its native form but I need to be able to save the packet to the actual file without the header and etc. The sample code is in the second code tag.
My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile()
Dim server As String = "download.utorrent.com"
Dim mySocket As Socket

I am doing a windows form application, with a picture and I need to put input text boxes on top of the picture. Whats the best way, I mean should I do a pannel first and then a picture box? Or just simply place a background image right on the form?

I've been playing with VB.NET for a couple days now, and I was looking into key input controls, now I've managed to have it react to keyboard buttons being pushed inside the main form (wasn't hard), where it counts total amount of keys pushed, not what keys are pushed etc.
What I'm having a harder time is finding a way to have this same functionality even if the form isn't active (for example when minimized to the system tray). I did find a similar question on these boards, but it was regarding hotkeys and that user was just referenced to the hotkey API, which is not what I am aiming for.
I have a list of data which needs to be inputted into many different fields on a webpage. usually about 1000 or so and i am trying to automate this using vb.net but i couldn't find a better solution than using appactivate and sendkeys. this solution definitely isn't very accurate and reliable.
is there another, better way of accomplishing this?is there a way to find certain input fields on a webpage, set focus to it and input data in a more reliable way? the way i have it written at the moment is appactivate and tab to certain fields and input data using sendkeys.
I am trying to input specific information on a form. I have created an sql statement from a table that will out put 18 rows of data. I have opened a recordset and instituted a do until loop. I need for the program to look at each row and if the Standard Score = the value of a field I have on the form it takes the value of the other three columns in updates it on the form. I have created the code and it works for upto 3 (Do Until loops)records, but when I try to add a 4th in the SQL statement and put in another do loop my computer runs it but it acts as if it freezes up.

I have made a small program that reads the input of a joystick/GamePad and passes it on to a serial port. It works great I can see all the buttons pressed ect ( in a textbox). But When I minimize the form and press some buttons they are no longer passed on to the serial port and not shown into the textbox?
View 2 RepliesI have a word document (word 2000) and a drop down form field with options A, B and C.If the user pics A, I wants to hide some text and show some other text. If they pick B, then hide something else, show something else, and so on.How does one do this?I assume I need to pass the form field contents to a procedure or macro and then go into If >Then font.hidden = true or something? I've identified the text to hide/show with bookmarks, so I think I can use the bookmark as a range to hide or show?
How do I pass the form field content to the procedure? Also, can I trigger the procedure once the user selects something in the drop down? Like kick a macro off I'm thinking?
I am using an input box. In tat am getting the number as input. When the user presses OK the program is workin. But when I press the cancel button am getting a error message
" Conversion from String "" to 'Integer' type is not valid "
If i press cancel I need the program to end. and also i want to know how to move to other form when i press cancel in input box
I am working on a project using Visual Studio .NET 2003.I am trying to open a second form based on user response to Yes/No Message Box. I have tried two different code variations. The first variation is:
Dim MsgAnswer As Boolean
MsgAnswer = True
Dim MsgRes As DialogResult
Dim CustomerInfo1 As New Form
[code]....
With this code I get an exception error: An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in OrpheyOnOpen.exe Additional information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Does anyone have a good link to a tutorial that teaches you how to create an input form that adds records to an access databas
View 2 RepliesI have been googling this and have not come along a working solution for an entire day. I don't know anything about binary data types (as I've never knowingly used them) and I'm trying to write a binary value that I see in the registry, to the registry. Now, all I see is the following [shown below]... and if I try to pass that as a string to the RegSetValueEx in the WinAPI and of course it errors out...
I do not know what 'numbers' I need to pass into the lpData As Any, argument of RegSetValueEx (i tried a bit array) in order for it to come out as the following [shown below] in the regedit. I really have no idea, and my tests to place random numbers in the bit array just produce corresponding random "figures" as visible in regedit that I do not understand how to 'tie' them together logically. here is the culprit!

I would like to develop a structure to maintain my user's text input somehow on each form to allow user to return to the form and see the prior input for potential editing. My app has four forms which accept user input and form a string for output to printer. In the eventuality that the user notes a mistake in the input after leaving the app, I would like to develop a structure to "save" the user input at the form level and allow for repopulating the text boxes with the prior user input. Make sense? I have no idea how accomplish that functionality. Maybe it's too complex for my purposes. What do the pros think?
View 2 RepliesWhen I use Request.Form("myInput") and the input field "myInput" is blank, I get a server error.
How do I handle this?
Is there a way to check if "myInput" has not been filled?
I have a reset button created in my VB form, but don't know how to code it so that it will accomplish what I want. I want it to clear the form's text boxes so that new input can be entered. I could just code an end statement but this closes the form, and I want to keep it open to continue working with it.
View 6 Repliesi am using validated function and i would like to close the form without entering any input and not generate an error. is there a method that changes the exit command to allow this?Sometimes the answer is so blindingly obvious i fail to see it.
View 1 Replieshow to create a form that allows a user to load an input file? I'm assuming a form like a windows explorer window will be too difficult, or not? If it is then I guess I could just put a textbox on the form and ask the user to input the directory with file name.
