When I use Request.Form("myInput") and the input field "myInput" is blank, I get a server error.
How do I handle this?

Clicking on a link button on a page causes Postback to a page containing a number of controls. [code]During the Postback to (page a) on the server, (page d) is requested when using the IE browser (doesn't happen in Firefox) there are absolutely NO artefacts requested that live on (page d), there are no response redirects or server transfers or anything referencing (page d).The only thing I have seen like this is when an image or artefact is requested and cant be found, or some pathing issues for an image, and this somehow screws the request up.

the problem is that "distinguishedName" returns "DC=our-domain,DC=co,DC=uk" and "name" returns just "our-domain", not the name of the user that has just been auth'ed

I have an input parameter for my stored Proc, Instead of choosing available values from a drop Dwn, the customer wants an empty input box that when left blank returns all records. the parameter type is numeric(6,0) in the Db. I have not found a way to leave the input blank and retrieve all records. my default value for all records is '-99' and also is declared as the default value for the param in the proc.

View 1 RepliesI've got a small VB.net 2010 project I made at home and then brought to work on a flash drive.However, when I opened the project at work, I found that my first form (Form 1) doesn't work correctly.It shows up in the solution explorer with the module icon instead of the form icon and if I open it it's just a blank empty document.When I run the project, it works correctly and Form 1 opens and appears as it should. I can also open the Form 1 design file and all the information is there, I just can't access it when I open the entire project.

This seems really simple, but for some reason Im stumped.Im dynamically generating an HTML Select Box, lets call it myselect. Im creating this select box based on some database values Im generating an HTML Select Box.. almost like a string that Im just spitting out to the page. So it's never a control in the codebehind, just part of a string thats rendered as HTML by the browser. If I submit my form, and in my codebehind I perform:

That code will give me the VALUE of the myselect select box. How can I refer to this control to cast it as a System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlSelect control? Request.Form seems to give me the value, but I want to reference the object itself..
I followed the last post about dgvs and have been trying to get my dgvs to have alternate colored lines on form load. In both apps I am working on I am using dgvs to display certain things. I do not like the look of a blank dgv on a form. When I tried to add blank colored lines to my dgv, it did work, but when I loaded the dgv with a dataset, it pushed my columns to the right and I had to add scroll bars to see my data.

Therefore, if I have a querystring key and cookie key which are the same, which value is returned?

View 2 RepliesI'm noticing this error more and more in my error logs. I've read through the questions here talking about this error, but they don't address what I would like to do (see below).
I'm considering three options, in the order of preference:
1) When submitting a form (I use formviews almost exclusively, if that helps), if potentially dangerous characters are detected, automatically strip them out and submit.
2) When submitting a form, if potentially dangerous characters are detected, alert the user and let them fix it before trying again.
3) After the exception is generated, deal with it and alert the user.
I'm hoping one of the first two options might be able to do somewhat globally...I know for the 3rd I'd have to alter a TON of Try-Catch blocks I already have in place. Doable, but labor intensive. I'd rather be proactive about it if at all possible and avoid the exception all together.
Perhaps one approach to #1 would be to write a block of code that could loop through all text entry fields in a formview, during the insert/update event, and strip the characters out. I'm ok with that, but I'd rather not have to heavily alter all my Insert/Update events to accomplish this. Or maybe I just create a different class to do the text checking/deleting, and only insert 1 line of code in each Insert/Update event. If anyone can come up with some example code of any of these approaches that would be a
