Use The Information And Connect, Otherwise, Quit The Program?

Jan 31, 2011

So i am writing something for work, and i was roaming the internet to see how to do it in vb.net, but it seems to really not have many hits. vb.net doesnt recognize Declare and all information points to things that say Private Declare Function [info]What i was wanting to do is to check if a computer has a DSN card in system DSN's, if it has it use the information and connect, otherwise, quit the program.

Do you know where i can find how to do this? I just need to check for the existance, i dont need to make them. All of my search results, while seemingly useful, were not written for vb.net I want to get something up here specifically for vb.net so we can get more search hits. i find more information, i will post it, but it doesnt seem to be going too far in the vb.net department, as it is in .net

Checking When Process (EXE) Has Quit?

Jul 24, 2010

I have an external (3rd party) EXE which I start from my app, which reads data from the user and creates a corresponding registry key with the information, then exits. I then need to read those registry values from my main application.

I start the app with:
Process.Start(My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Temp & "GatherInfo.exe")

I need to read those registry values AFTER that EXE has quit - so I know they've been created. At the moment I'm just making my main app sleep after that process has been started:
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000)

And then checking for the reg values. I'm worried this won't work for different users however, as the speed of the computer will determine how long the process takes to start and exit.

App.quit With Multiple Apps Open?

Mar 3, 2010

My program opens an excel file with excel.application's .visible=false. If the code is running and I manually open any excel file the excel file being used by code will then open up as well (making the .visible=false useless). Then at the end I use the excel.application's .quit to make sure that instance of excel quits, but it will quit every open instance of excel (even ones not opened by that code). Is there any way around this? to make sure it does not appear when other files are opened, and to make sure it only closes that one instance of the excel application.

Office Automation :: Excel Process Won't Quit?

All of that works fine, but for some reason the "EXCEL" process won't quit. I have read through the tutorial written by Mike R and I have even tried just copying and pasting the code from the tutorial into my project, but to no avail. I should also note that I have not yet tried the "Extreme Measures" listed in the post, though at this point I am tempted to.

Code:
Dim ExcelApp As Excel.Application

Show The Final Results Instead Of The Results Real-time

Sep 28, 2010

I have a form that allows users to select file and then it reads the contents, parses the data and then executes a sql insert statement to add it to a database. What I am having issues with is showing real-time results. Currently, I have the import operation take place on the import form within the OnLoad event. The problem with this is it only shows the final results instead of the results real-time. Is there anyway to do this without creating a seperate thread and delegates?

Different Command Execution Results On Different Workstations?

Feb 6, 2009

I have a client application that has been in use on about 14 workstations for nearly a year now. on the admin side the old app works correctly but the new one comes up with an error stating a column (Job_ID auto increment primary key) in the database does not exist when inserting a new job record yet it still adds the job to the database. all information is correct. The estimation side does not come up with this error and all computers in both departments run the same exact application installed from the same disk. all issues seem to be related to the jobs table only. But the same workstations with the column not existing error on admin side have a different setup on the network and will not allow a desktop icon to be created by the new application or manually.

Display Command Results In A Textbox?

Jun 6, 2011

I am working on a simple program called "Who's Connected?" where it runs a command (netstat -aon) and then displays the results in a multi-lined textbox. However, when I press the button that will run the command, it tells me that it can't convert the string to an integer or something. And when I did manage to get it to convert to an integer, it really showed an integer in the textbox instead of the connections and IP addresses. What do I do? Here is the code I have: Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click 'Running command and displaying results in textbox1 TextBox1.Text = CStr(Shell("netstat -aon"))'Results end up being a triple or quadruple digit number End Sub

List Results From Command Line In Listbox

I have already found the MSDN stuff on using the RedirectStandardOutput class to add to streamwriter. Internet Explorer Object - Tell Webbrowser Control To "quit" Or Destroy It Self?

Oct 12, 2009

In VB6 I used internet explorer object a lot. There things internet explorer object can do that webbrowser control cannot. For example, internet explorer object is easier to debug because when the application is in debug mode, internet explorer object is still interactive with client. Also we can clear cookies and resstart with internet explorer object. We can do ie.quit, then set ie=new internetexplorer then ie.visible=true

In vb.net internet explorer object becomes webbrowser control and I have no way to do that? How can I delete cookies and then restart webbrowser control? How can I tell webbrowser control to "quit" or destroy it self? That sort of thing.

Quit An Excel Macro Externally (from A GUI Not From Macro)

Oct 21, 2010

I'm have a program (GUI) that interfaces with excel to execute macros. We're using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel to call/run the macros and this works great. What I can't figure out is a good way to cancel the macros from the GUI.One idea we had was to use the excel.application variable that runs the macros to write a "stop" value to a specific cell in the workbook, and in the macros (they are all mostly loops), check for the "stop" value in that cell. This crashes my GUI with this The program '[2188] BVLReports.vshost.exe: Managed' has exited with code -336589910 (0xebf00baa).And excel gets tied up, and won't respond. I know how to Exit Sub from within the macro if the "stop" value exists, so I don't need answers on how to check/cancel from inside the macro. Any ideas on a better way to write this "stop" value or a better way to cancel the macros externally?

VS 2008 - Displaying / Printing Program Numerical Analysis Results?

Oct 23, 2009

I am writing a VB.NET Windows Application which takes numeric user-input and performs a complicated calculation, yielding many numeric output variables. Previously, I wrote a similar program in VB6, which output the results to a rich text box using fixed-width font in order to organize data in columns and used asterisks to delineate table areas and section borders. I then used the printer object for printing the output. This method was very archaic and difficult to modify when changes were necessary.

VS 2008 Make A Program Which Takes A Bunch Of Inputs (Name, Age, X2 Score Results)?

Mar 12, 2011

I've recently started programming for Visual Basic Express - 2008, and I'm currently trying to make a program which takes a bunch of inputs (Name, Age, x2 score results) and then turns this into an output at the end which varies depending on the score results.

I've stumbled upon a small hinderance, which is that the very final stage which has a Console.Writeline does not appear after testing the program. So, everything else functions fine, but as soon as it gets past the "Console.WriteLine("All pupils have been calculated, the results are...")" command the program closes itself.I'm not looking for much help, just wondering exactly what is causing this to happen. I also realise that my coding is sub-par and is coded in a slightly odd fashion, but I'd rather just get this one to work and use the mistakes from this one to correct my future work.

Different Results - Step-Through Vs Run

Feb 15, 2012

I have created a program that randomly produces simple maths questions and saves them to a SQL Server (SQL Server 2008 R2). The code looks fine and works if I step through the program. Each pass it creates a random question answer and saves them to the database. However, if I run it (Debug/Release), the program produces a question and answer but repeats it in the database.
