Get Simple XML Developer Libraries/SDKs For Handling XML Files?
Aug 13, 2010
writing code to read, write, parse, navigate XML files. Are there any good, simple XML developer libraries/SDKs for handling XML files? If you're familiar with the Kellerman FTP Library, that is the paradigm I have in mind -- i.e., add an import, declare an object and you have every FTP function you'd ever want, with simple syntax.
i created a Class library (.dll) and loaded it as reference into a main project. In the code for the class i've handled exceptions using try..catch subs, however when debugging the main project exceptions that are handled in the DLL still get thrown! (the class ".vb" file gets loaded into the debugger and the line of the exception shows up)
Up till now i've found it useful that when an unhandled error occurs in the imported reference, it shows up in the main project with tracing back to the referenced class. But i dont want the exceptions that are handled in the reference class to be thrown when debugging the main project!
As you can see the exception thrown was handled with try...catch this class exception.vb belongs to the project that created the class library (.DLL that i referenced). i didnt even load the project that built the reference so it amazes me that it could find the coding class to begin with.
In CRUD application development we have to face the issues with concurencies in Ids such as Generate and display UNique EmployeeIDs on forms. Currently i'm writting .DLL file that has a class that will handle concurrencies.
But i'm puzziled with the Question, is this concurrency handle is part of the software developer or Database developer?
I have an object Order with a simple event, Public Event ErrorOccurred(ByVal msg As String)that I raise in the constructor like so when an order cannot be found (along w/setting a boolean error flag:
RaiseEvent ErrorOccurred("This order does not exist in the database.") [Error] = True
I have a webform subscribed to the order's ErrorOccurred event:
Public WithEvents o As New Order
and I have an error handler method on the form:
Private Sub OnErrorOccurred(ByVal msg As String) Handles o.ErrorOccurred litMsg.Text = "<p class=""error-confirm"">" & msg & "</p>" End Sub
When a textbox is changed, it autoposts back to the page and employs the following logic:
Private Sub txtOrderID_TextChanged(ByVal sender As Object,_ ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtOrderID.TextChanged If IsNumeric(txtOrderID.Text) Then
[code]....
When there is an error (when the Else logic is run), everything performs as expected except the event does not fire. However, since the Error flag is set to true, it means the event MUST have fired, since that line executes AFTER the RaiseEvent line. I've tried everything I can think of, but I cannot figure out what could be wrong. I have events strewn everywhere in my project and they all work well using virtually the same structure.
I've been working on a project that converts several file formats to a PDF in VB.NET/C#. The specific files are DOC, TXT, JPG, TIFF, HTML.
Actually I already have a solution for DOC/TXT to PDF using Bullzip PDF Printer by sending the files to the PDF Printer using VB.NET. However, each time it converts a file, MS Word opens and then closes once the file is sent to the printer. It really slows down the process.
As for TIFF to PDF, I haven't found a solution for it at this time.
I require SDKs or Commandline tools and not PDF convertion applications, since I need to integrate this function in my program. I prefer free or open source SDKs but commercial ones are accepted as well.
I am noticing a "mysterious" change to text files used for graphs using Zedgraph libraries. In a 100-line data set, about four to five records inexplicably "disappear"! These are the SAME files which only 24 hours earlier showed the complete set and were successfully read.
How should I handle image files of various sizes (<1 mb upto 15mb) within a mobile application that I am developing? Currently, I am displaying the image full size using a ASHX file inside of an ASP Win Form using the ASP Image Class. So basically what I would like to know how should I go about dealing with these sometimes vastly different image sizes. Would copying the image to be displayed and then scaling it on the server to whatever dimensions I decide and then displaying it in the browser be a better way of "handling" images especially in an mobile browser?
I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. This is what I want to do:
1) Copy all files and folders from A to B example: Copy From C:Source to \Server1Dest
2) I also am trying to use a progress bar to show the actual progress. Which hasn't worked. I can't time it because the number of files varies from day to day.
3) I would also like to pull variables from a text file or config file for example what the source path is and what the destination path is. I want this to be predetermined so the whole process is automated.
So ive looked everywhere but every example i find doesnt work on visual studio 05 and doesnt convert properly. I simply want to send info from one computer to another through direct connection. if anyone could point me in the right direction it would really be helpful. most stuff i find seems to be more complicated than what im looking for.
then just one other question. both computers will be going through a router. as long as i have the port im using forwarded on the hosts side, that shouldnt be a problem, right?
I coded anything but I remember when using VB6 or Pascal/Delphi we used to define records/ structures with fixed length fields, then write those structures to a file knowing that they would always be the same length. You could then open a particular record within the file or simply find out how many records existed by reading the file length. From what I understand, it seems that such methods are depreciated in VB.NET and such structures are written as a stream.Does it now mean that we can define things like variable length strings and not need to worry about buffers or boundaries? Is it possible to read through such files and pick out individual records? Are there methods of determining how many records that exist in a file? What I'm looking to do is simply store multiple records of a structure in a file then retrieve them into an array so I can manipulate their order by sorting the array and search within the array. This is only a learning project so it is unlikely that the resultant array is going to be large, although if this is not generaly a good method of doing this then it might be interesting to fidn out what is. So far, I have read that they way to write a structure to a file is to "serialises" it and then write the bytes - is this correct?[code]
I designed 7 class libraries for 1 project. The project references all 7 libraries.3 of the 7 libraries make references to the other 4 libraries.I thought of just duplicating the code that's referenced in the other 4 libraries, but thats a lot of code.
Example:
PrjctA makes reference to LibA, LibB, LibC, & LibD.If LibA references LibB & LibC also will this fail?
Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:
Example (the "@" is the separator):
@ The character The Code End of line A @ 4gh EOL B @ 84!9 EOL
Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code. Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:
 Read any private key file separator = readline(file); while not EOF(file) do tempStr = readline(file);
I'm a C# programmer who needs to pick up some VB. The syntax differences are easy enough to figure out, but there are other things I'll need more of a tutorial on. For example, VB's "strict" mode in Visual Studio is something essential to me, but something I wouldn't have learned just by comparing language syntax. Any recommendations on how to pick up VB quickly, yet thoroughly? I can't stand to work through a 1000 page book introducing VB to novices.
Trying to make a simple browser with some simple addon's. What Ive done is setup a menu(forum) for the user to enter their email providers web address and it will save it in a xml file. When they click on the email link, it should load the email xml iformation and place that info in the tb_html.text and navigate. I keep getting a null exception and im not sure what going on here. Here is the code:
Browsers: Private Sub btn_Email_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn_Email.Click 'Load Action Dim SavedEmailObj As Storage
I'm currently maintaining some old code for a company. As it would happen, the current app I'm modifying uses an older version of the in-house library (we'll call this Lib1.dll). They also have a new version of the library called Lib2.dll that improves upon the previous library in many ways.
Unfortunately, Lib2 is not backward compatible with Lib1. What's worse is that they both use the same namespace Product.Common.
How do I use Lib2 and Lib1 in the same project? Right now if I add references to both of them, VS tells me that certain classes are ambiguous (which makes sense, since they using the same namespace).
I'm creating an application that will utilize a lot of functions for performing scientific calculations. There will also be a lot of 3D and 2D rendering in my application. Hence i will have a lot of common functions that will be utilized frequently.
I have noticed that class libraries (DLL's) are utilized in applications similar to mine, and am wondering if i should utilize them in my application. The trouble is, i can't really think of what use they will be to me. The functions in my application will only be called upon by my application, so i do not need to make my functions accessible to others. The only other benefit i can see from using DLL's is reduced memory usage and .exe size.
Whats the benefit of using DLL's instead of just creating a bunch of modules in my application to store my functions? I have read that another benefit of using DLL's is they are easier to maintain and update as you can update the DLL rather than your entire application. I dont quite understand this, as if you are going to utilize new and updated functions you have added to your DLL's, then you will need to update the code that calls them as well. So again i don't see the benefit in using DLL's in my application.
I need to access the raw .NET framework libraries ( such as System ) and etc. All of the libraries that are required by .NET programs to run. Is there a specific place on my harddrive that I can find them all?
I updated a VB.NET application from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 and made a few changes to it. Now it works fine on my development workstation but when the user tries to run it, it fails. The error detail is below. I've searched for System.InvalidOperationException and found several suggestions but none of them have helped. There isn't any static initialization code in the application. I changed the compilation to x86 instead of AnyCpu. None of these has helped. The project is compiled for .NET 3.5 and that hasn't changed. Both environments are Windows 7 64-bit.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might determine what is causing this?
I have been trying to download the Visual Basic and it took me 3 days now to download because my network is not always good, so when the net is off, I have to start it over and over again. My question is: How can I download the Visual Basic just once and for all so that I start learning how to build my first Windows Applications?
I went for an interview last week, and the interviewer asked me a question that i failed to answer.
He asked me, how did i store the password in the database. Then i answered that i would encrypt it then store it in database.
Then he said after encryption, developer or admin still able to view the encrypted password. But he didn't want developer or admin to be able to view the encrypted password.
I thought of cookies, but if user clear their cookies file, everything will be gone.
I've been an ASP.NET VB.NET Web Developer for the past 4 years, but its been mainly self-taught so I think theres a fair few basics I have probably not learnt along the way.I'm interested in switching to C#, and was wondering what book would be best to buy to learn this.Is Jon Skeet's 'C# in depth' book a good place to start learning, or would this be too difficult for me to start with?
I'm looking at a small remoting project in VB.NET. Initial research turns up references to msrdp.ocx which my Windows 7 Ult system doesn't have; a filesystem search on the same platform turns up MsRdpWebAccess.dll which doesn't appear to be well documented; finally hunting through COM references in Visual Studio turns up rdpencom.dll labeled "rdpcomapi 1.0 Type Library" which seems to be best documented via personal developer blogs (which isn't encouraging but is a lot better than other options).
My goal is a lightweight remoting application I can deploy to Windows 2000 Client/Server, WinXP x86/x64, Win2k3 Server, Vista x86/64, and Win2k8 Server. Is there anything DotNET Native I can use instead of one of these COM libraries? Is one of these COM libraries better for the job overall than others; and then am I going to have platform-specific compatibility issues if I don't provide support for more than 1 of them in my app?
I'm creating a class library that contains a series of functions with Try...Catch blocks to handle errors. When i run another application that uses the class library, and call a function in the library using parameters that i know should cause an error (i.e. divide by zero), i don't get an exception thrown.
Can you not use Try.. Catch blocks in external libraries? If not, how are you suppose to handle errors in these functions?
I was wondering if you could tell me of any free libraries for the .NET framework (2.0) that you know of that can convert a PDF file to HTML or XML. I've seen several components that do the opposite, meaning HMTL to PDF, but not what I need. Essentially, I need the html version of my PDFs because I need to search through the text. Also, the Adobe Acrobat SDK is not an option for me, even though I know it has the exact functionality I need.
I've just about finished my WPF app, but I just hit a hurdle: my app needs to be totally localized (I've achieved this using databinding/RESX files & multiple cultures), and the actual program does this My problem is that I have a window where you generate reports on your progress. It's designed so that programmers will be able to design their own 'report sections', using interfaces & class libraries.Just one problem though: when I use RESX files inside these class libraries, they won't actually change even if I set their culture to the relevant culture I want to test.
I'm looking for a library that will disassemble x86 code into some sort of object model that I can then use to write routines that analyze the code. I'm not interested in a library that converts x86 code to text disassembly--I've found more than a few of those, but they're not that useful since I want to do some work on top of the code that I disassemble. Oh, and I'd like it to be .Net code (VB or C# preferable).Program / C# x86 disassembler libraries?
