Getting Error When Trying To Debug Project
Jun 3, 2012I keep getting this error when trying to debug my project, I'm not sure if it is the same for all projects or not, but it's very annoying.

View 1 RepliesWhen i try to save my program an error pops up telling me that it cannot debug because some sort of file is missing... While my other projects just work, and while i repeat the same steps (placing an entity like a button, coding it), it just shows that error. Its really strange!
View 2 RepliesI'm using visual studio express 2008, I wrote my code for a project and then when I tried to debug it I got a few errors but one main one that says this. Visual Studio cannot start debugging because the debug target "".exe is missing Please build the project and retry, or set the output path and assembly names appropriately to point at the correct location of the target assembly. Since this is my first time debugging a program with this particular instance of the program, I am in shock. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
View 6 RepliesI have a project that is build in VB 6.0 version. I need to launch this project locally to debug an issue. But unfortunately I don't have VB 6.0 installed on my machine and my firm is not providing this software anymore. Is there any way that I can open VB 6.0 project using other versions of Visual Studio?
View 2 RepliesI have a Dll project written in VB.Net 2003 which compiles a Dll used in other projects. I need to debug this Dll while it is being ran in the other project. Does anyone know how I can do this, or do I need to integrate it into my other VB project somehow before I can debug it?
View 1 RepliesI have attached my project. I have made a web browser I don't get any errors but it doesn't run/debug.I don't know why but i checked everything. (i didnt write any code additional to template generated by vs2008 ) i tried to debug it with F11 hit(step into) ; vstudio asks me to locate a source file named 17d14f5c-a337-4978-8281-53493378c1071.vb. i dont know what this file is; same problem does not occur if i choose C# project.
View 1 RepliesI have a project that was download from the net. It is a open source project.I can run without anyerror with IDE 2005. But i cannot enter the debug mode. I have set the project build to debug. But i cannt still enter to debug.I also got the following message when i run the project. The following module was built with optimizations enabled or without debug information :E:Project.exeTo debug this module, change its project build configuration to debug mode. To suppress this message, disable the "Warn inf no user code on launch" debugger option
View 11 RepliesIm new to VB 08 and i made a project that runs fine when i debug from inside the VB solution explorer. When i go to my BIN folder and try to run my project, the project runs but the button event seems to be none exsisten, also my message box does not appear on load, it should give an ERROR message if it does not detect the process writen in the module.
View 3 RepliesI'm using VS2008, and I have a project that will not start when I press F5 or when I click the little green triangle in the toolbar. The screen flickers once, like the project is going to run, and then it doesn't. The build message claims the build was successful, but the project won't start. In the Configuration Manager, my 'Active solution configuration:' is set to Debug, and in the 'Project contexts' list, the 'Configuration' column for my Project is set to Debug. I've even switched them back and forth between Debug and Release and then back to Debug, all with no effect. The project that I'm trying to run is set as the 'Startup Project' in my solution. If I go to my inDebug folder and double-click the .exe, (which shows the proper time-stamp on the file) my app runs just fine.Any ideas why I can't get the silly thing to run in debug mode?
EDIT:
It's a winforms application.
My version of Visual Studio is 9.0.30729.1 SP

Both projects are set to build in release modeBoth projects are in the same solutionThe solution is set to build in releaseBoth projects output to a Release folder in bin / objEverything seems to be okay except for one thing. When inspecting the files with a tool such asI tracked this down to a setting in the Advnced Compiler Options for the pdb files. If the debug info output for VB is set to anything other than none - then the project builds in debug mode (keep in mind it still outputs to the release folder).

View 3 RepliesFrom my DLL project I have succeded in making AutoCAD launch by pressing F5 from VB.net IDE (Visual Studio 2008) en route to try to make debugging of the DLL easier ...
... however one last obstacle is currently in the way and the obstacle is that for some reason when I hit F5 and AutoCAD is launched my breakpoints are not recognized at all... and program runs from start to finish instead of allowing me to debug ...
It issues a strange message which says "The following module was built either with optimizations enabled or without debug information... to debug this module, change its project build configuration to Debug mode..." and it is all weird because as far as I know I am not in release mode .. but in debug mode (anyhow I am relatively new to Visual Studio .NET so I am thinking that my impression could be that I am in debug mode when in actuality I maybe in release mode)...
Here is why I think I am debug mode ...
1. From Solution explorer ... when I click on the Solution Name and view its properties ... the Active config property says Debug|Any CPU
2. When I look at the properties of the project and look at the compile tab it says that the Configuration is Active (Debug) and under Platform it says Active (Any CPU).
3. Under the Advanced Compile Options of Compile Tab from project properties ... Enable optimizations is UNchecked ...
Anyhow with all the settings mentioned above it seems that I have everything okay but then the message above proves otherwise ... and so at this point I know that I am still missing something ... like a setting somewhere... wondering what else do you think am I still missing?
As additional info...there are seven projects in the solution and it is the main one (the one that I set as startup project) whose properties I refer to in all the paragraphs above.
I'm using vb2008 and database ms access.
I want to know if exist in the Debug folder in my project Database access
I've been assigned a web app written in VB using VStudio.net 2003. I am trying to configure the source on my localhost (VStudio 2008) so I can explore and learn about the current app (before I begin any real changes) and I cannot get debugging working for the web service project(s).
Symptom 1: "Unable to automatically step into the server. The remote procedure could not be debugged. This usually indicates that debugging has not been enabled on the server. See help for more information". This happens when I try to F11 (stepInto) the proxy class which invokes my actual web method.
Symptom 2: Pre-setting a breakpoint in my .asmx file code on the statement that will be invoked does not work (i.e. the debugger simply doesn't stop). Having described the situation, here's how my VStudio Solution is configured: Service1 - project created from the VB - WEB - ASP.NET Web Service Application template; this Service1 project contains my main .asmx source code I want to debug. Web.config for this project contains compilation defaultLanguage="vb" debug="true"

It's just a small calculator project so it's no big deal, but after I had built the project, I wanted to change the project name and all the file names that had that string in it (and all internal references to that string). I had played with this before and knew that it was asking for trouble but I thought, "What the hell, I'll try it again." feeling a bit brash.
Well, everything works fine in debug mode, but there is this DOS window that pops up just before the main form does, and it doesn't go away for the entire debugging session. I think I see that window pop up on all other projects too (if the main form doesn't cover it up completely), but normally, it's only there for a split second.
I made a Class Library project that contains the main classes that my Main Project needs because I don't want to main classes when I distribute my project. I've successfully called and used it in my Main Project. But when I started debugging and stepping through my code which involves calling and using the class I wrote in my Class Library, I noticed that the class' file in my Class Library opens up during debug mode.
how can I prevent the Class Library's files from being opened during my Main Project's debug mode?
When I debug this project, I receive the following error:"Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another." It happens on the recordset open call.
rsData.Open "SELECT * FROM " & TempTableName & " WHERE 1 = 2", SQLConn, adOpenDynamic, adLockBatchOptimistic
The odd thing is that it only happens during debug. When I compile the .dll and use it, no error.I need to debug to filter review some data that is rejected in a later procedure.

I am getting this error when I try to debug the application, when I build it it is correct.

I've started a project in Expression Blend and has been working the codes in Visual Studio 2008. It was alright, no problem. I've worked heaps of projects like that before without any problems. However, out of nowhere, my WPF designer in VS2008 now gives me the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at MS.Internal.Package.VSIsolationProviderService.CreateIsolationProvider(String identity, AssemblyReferenceProvider assemblyReferences, IEnumerable'1 assemblyFolders)
at MS.Internal.Providers.VSDesignerContext.GetIsolationProvider(IServiceProvider provider, [Code] .....
It displays the above instead of displaying the WPF designer. Also, I cannot Debug>Start Debugging the application anymore. I can still run/test/build it in Expression studio though. The funny thing is that if I restart a project in Expression blend, copy all the xaml codes, and copy all the vb .net codes from the original application, it works for some time, and then afterwards start giving me the same error at wpf designer in VS2008.
I want to update my database using formatsqlparam, but when I debug it, it has an error saying:"Incorrect syntax near ','."[code]I am missing some syntax, but I couldn't find where it is.
View 2 RepliesI develop windows applications in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2008. Recently I reloaded my pc and moved from XP to Windows 7 64 bit. Now when I am debugging, when I should get a runtime error, the executable instead locks up when it should bring up the code with the line that it crashed on like you'd expect in debug.
This doesn't happen all the time, only when I get a runtime error in a separate assembly that is not in the assembly I'm debugging. It used to work fine, but now it locks up. If I run the executable outside of Visual Studio (without debug) I at least get a runtime error like you'd hope for. I don't even get that when debugging.
I was trying to edit a excel document and save under different name and my coding for this is as follows.

I have some storyboards in XAML (WPF Project) and I´m calling them from the VB code with this:

ServiceOff.Begin()
I´m getting the following error when trying to build:
Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Begin' accepts this number of arguments.
After I've changed a form icon, I got an error in debug, i.e. 'System.Resources.MissingManifestResourceException' occurred in mscorlib.dll...
View 2 RepliesI'm getting the 403 Forbidden error while running a VS 2010 in debug mode. It gives me this error as it tries to read thru an XML File. See attachment. This is a web app and it's reading an XML file that retrieves the DB/Server information. It's not the Web.Config file but just a regular xml file. This file is read by every application in our system. Not sure why it suddenly started doing this. I've created the virtual directory on our IIS Server and set permissions on the C:inetpubwwwrootAppName directory of my C: drive where the app resides.
View 2 RepliesI've just installed Visual Studio 2010 Express on a new laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.
When I debug a VB project and an error is encountered a message is sent to the immediate window, but execution is not halted. This means I am unable to look at variables etc.
i'm unable to debug my project that i made. i save it and everything, but it just won't playit says Warning 1 Could not find type 'WindowsApplication1.My.Resources.Resources, Time table'. Please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced. If this type is a part of your development project, make sure that the project has been successfully built. C:SchoolIPTTime table, using 2 loopsTime table, using 2 loopsForm1.Designer.vb 123 0 now when i open it up and try to debug it , it comes up with an error, i even try referencing it but it does nothing ,
View 2 RepliesSimple question that does not seem to be covered: If I use a lot of Debug.WriteLine statements in my code, will they be completely absent in my production version?
I mean: Is the compiler smart enough to not emit any code for those calls? Or would I have to surround them by #if DEBUG..#end if directives?
