I want to get the years from this string like 2009,2010 from the above string.
I have tried this but not able to further separate June2009.
Dim strYearDet As String()
strYear11, strYear2 As String
strYearDet = StatusStrip1.Items(0).Text.Split("-")
strYear11 = strYearDet(0)
strYear2 = strYearDet(1)
I HAVE A double value as 4 now i want to convert this to string format as "04"
So it must convert each number to a format as "00"
How do you do this using string.format?
I know Val() is a VB6 function, but one thing I like about it is that you can wrap a string in it and it will "extract" the numerical value from the string if there are other things present (i.e. Val("123 Main St.") returns 123). This is the way my teacher taught us to use it. I know about the .TryParse and .Parse methods of the different data types, and how those can be used to check for a numerical value, but is there a replacement that can strip any non-numeric value from a string to put it in an integer (or double, single, decimal, etc.)?
View 14 Repliesis there a way to check if a string contains characters other than numeric? ive used isnumeric quite a bit and its pretty usefull, but cant find a way to check for text in a string. Having searched around theres a few ways of doing it slowly that ive found using an array of letters and a loop / instring, but thats much more hassle than checking for numbers, so strikes me there must be a way.

I am trying to check if a string is numeric but in vain. here is my code:
If Val(fnumField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or fnumField.Text.Trim = "0" Or Val(phnField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or phnField.Text.Trim = "0" Or Val(ophnField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or _
ophnField.Text.Trim = "0" Or Val(treeField.Text.Trim) > 0 Or treeField.Text.Trim = "0" Then

I used a regular expression, which handles both numbers and letters in strings of arbitrary length, in one line of code.
dim rtn as String = Regex.Replace(input, "..", "$& ")
I'd like to take numeric strings of arbitrary length and insert a space every 2 characters.
So 1233456 becomes 12 33 45 6. Is there a way I can use format as string or IFormatProvider, like? That would put a limit on how long the string could be though, right? Since I'm casting to a long.
CLng((input)).ToString("## ")
I'd like to take strings of arbitrary length and insert a space every 2 characters.
123dssas4rr should become 12 3d ss as 4r r
I have a sql table with the following fields
ID = PrimaryKey (nvarchar(50))
Name Surname
sample value of ID = RHO-1 How do i automatically increment the numeric portion when adding a new record to the database eg: RHO-2, RHO-3 and so on.
I'm using Entity Framework code first and pulling some data back from our database. In the table I'm accessing is 13 columns that store the number of a items a customer purchased per week for the last 13 weeks as a char field. I have no control over how this data is stored. I need to total the 13 weeks results together to get a combined total, so take week1 + week2 + week3.... = Total Items Purchased over 13 weeks.In SQL I'd just Cast the char to an Integer and add the values together. But I'm struggling finding a solution to do this in linq.
I tried
(From c in Table
Select New With {.Usage = (Convert.ToInt32(c.week1) +

I am using standard String.Format method. It is using numeric objects.
Console.WriteLine("obj1 = {0} and obj2 = {1}", "obj1", "obj2");
I want to use named indexes.Like this
Console.WriteLine("obj1 = {o1} and obj2 = {o2}",
new { o1 = "obj1", o2 = "obj2"});
How I can use same last code?
I have an application where the user and search the database and return the values from it. They can also figure the Average, Median, and the Standard Deviation from it. BUt I have a problem with this since the business rules won't allow the result column to be anything but a string so now I am getting error messages on the Select commnad text since it is trying to perform the calculations. I am wondering if there is a way to convert the values in the command text to a numeric value then perform the calculation. Here is the code I am using at the moment.

how to search a string for numeric type characters and return only the numeric characters to an int field? For example: A field contains a string of "Net 30 days" or "Net 10 days" etc. I want to return only the "30" or "10" or whatever # to a int field.

Is there a numeric text box, not an up-down box, a SIMPLE numeric box into which the user can place a number, 5 boxes actually, then on command have the five boxes added and the sum displayed?

View 2 Repliesis there any function to validate if a string has only numerical characters? I can cross character for character and verify if it is a number. But I look for something simpler or if already a function like that exists.
I cannot use IsNumeric or IsDigit because it returns numbers to True with point or comma.
I need only numeric characters (no comma nor points
I nedd some help in generating a random alph-numeric password for a form that I building. The form should suggest a password that 18 characters long. The user would either agree to this password or enter their own password.[code]When I use this I get a two digit number.
View 5 RepliesI have a string I want to parse. I could write the code to do so, but I figured that VS.NET has a parser that should do this for me.however, I can't find it. All the searches I do return info on how to parse numeric values in string form into real numbers. It would be nice if the MSDN search had some ways to allow users to enter more details than just search text and 3 ways to filter out irrelevant stuff. In any case, I also tried things like string.parse (nope - although I kinda figured this would be it.) I also looked at Enum.parse, but the code indicates that it works with arrasy of items, not strings.
View 5 RepliesSo I've run into a case where I have a class that can store either a string or a numeric value, and I want a single property to return one or the other (it would be a failure for both to be set). I'm using a custom generic class to deal with the numerics (so I can use signed, unsigned, and nullables), and will be storing the string in a separate variable.
In theory, if overloading could be done based on the return type, I could do this quite easily. But .NET currently disallows this. So I am wondering if there is some other really-far-out-there trick (outside of MSIL generation via Reflection.Emit) that could accomplish the same thing.
I'm open to ideas via delegates, pointer dereferencing, generics, mystical rites, etc. Also interested in any thoughts or pros/cons of such possibilities as a learning tool. If using a standard Object is the only way to achieve what I want, then that's fine with me. But It's difficult to find the correct set of keywords to hunt down this kind of capability on Google, so I thought I'd ask here before I moved on to doing something else on the project.
I have encrypted a string to something like this:
1. Asak2$)kla1015QAXKFskfa332aSJ2(Ska@Skljcmcel3p.lq,aowpqaskla2@)Skx.:Pdm^),dfs;
what i want to is convert this string to something like this
2. JXK2LB AP2WXB S1P0XE ZXPA3H X1LAKW DOXPS3
both 1 & 2 the above strings are fictitious (i made them up to make my point clear)
I am trying to make a licensing system for my VB 2010 express application. (2) above will act as a serial key which can be derived from (1) which is an encrypted form of something unique of the client computer.
I will then confirm the (2) from the client.
I am reading a data file and storing them in an array of string.Data is random, could be like "1","2","133,18" but sometimes there can be missing values like "?".Once I load the data in the array, I want to check if at least a majority (like 60% of them) are numeric values.If yes, then I wanna track down the higher and lowest value in the array, and output a range of 5.Loop through the array
If 60% of them are numbers (integers or decimals) then find highest value, find lowest value end if produce range
If for example lowest = 1 and highest = 100, range of 5 means 0,20,40,60,80,100 (so 5 ranges are 0-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-80, 80-100).Also if the ranges turn to have decimals due to weird numbers, I would like to round them up.My problem is, in order to find highest and lowest when there are non numeric values in the array like "?", how should I handle those? I was thinking of something like Double.NaN but I would have to have an array of doubles.
My firts issue is that I have a combo box, with a list of words, now I want to set a numeric value to each one.
In a little more detail. I have am looking to create a cost sheet, where, I select an item or items form a combo box and then they are automatically added up by this program I am hoping to design.
Now, I need to set these numeric values, but have no Idea how to do it. The second issue is that I dont even know how to get these values to add up
So I am making a gambling game to better learn VB, and I am wanting to know the best way to link a players name with his pot.Currently I have a My.Setting's setup with a String var that holds the players names.Names = John, Greg, Bob..That is how the My.Setting.Names is setup. So I split them with a , and parsed them with a For statement. I then added them to a ListBox to allow the user to select the profile.[code]And then at anytime I can pull "John" in my var (ProfileToLoad) and then "100" in a separate var that I setup.
