I have a storedprocedure as a datasource for my crystal report (14) and would like the report to define one of the parameters internally (in the report definition), When I set the default of the parameter to True (its a bit in tsql) and set it not to prompt it still does.
I don't want user intervention here, and I have my viewer as a dialog (so they couldnt enter it even if they wanted to).

I am trying to get a parameter for my update from the gridview but it is an ID column that I do not want displayed. If I display the data in a boundfield it works fine but if I set the visibility to false the parameter is no longer sent to the update stored procedure. There does not appear to be a hiddenfield column that I can put into the gridview.I have tried to set the parameters through the code behind but I am not certain on how to access the data I want the following code does not work (It sets the parameter to nothing
Protected Sub grvFacilityDisciplineBillingRate_RowUpdating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As GridViewUpdateEventArgs) Handles grvFacilityDisciplineBillingRate.RowUpdating
Dim row As GridViewRow = grvFacilityDisciplineBillingRate.Rows(e.RowIndex)

It looks like I am supplying this but it's not working.

I am trying to prevent from having to escape apostrophes in my string variables by using a parameterized query with a OleDbConnection, but it is not working. I am trying to insert into an Access db and I keep getting those pesky html codes.

I am using Dev Express to develop a form in which i have a GridControl with a View inside a View.It looks like this:
I am then trying to use the event ValidatingEditor to validate the user input.I tried to do that by doing:
Private Sub grvObsAM_Artigos_ValidatingEditor(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DevExpress.XtraEditors.Controls.BaseContainerValidateEditorEventArgs) Handles grvObsAM_Artigos.ValidatingEditor
Dim row As Integer = Me.grvObsAM_Artigos.FocusedRowHandle
This, however always returns me something like -99999.. I poked around and tried this other solution using the sender from the event:
Private Sub grvObsAM_Artigos_ValidatingEditor(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DevExpress.XtraEditors.Controls.BaseContainerValidateEditorEventArgs) Handles grvObsAM_Artigos.ValidatingEditor
Dim grv As DevExpress.XtraGrid.Views.Grid.GridView = CType(sender, DevExpress.XtraGrid.Views.Grid.GridView)
Dim row As Integer = grv.FocusedRowHandle
And using this second solution i managed to get the focused row handle. Even though this worked this time (because the event was triggered by the view itself and i had access to the sender) this doesn't solve my problem as there are other events where the sender is not the view and the problem persists.Usign Me.grvObsAM_Artigos."insert anything here" doesn't seem to work properly.

I am hardcoding an insert statement to a database, based on certain details a user enters into a windows form. The form has a few textbox and datetimepicker controls for the purpose. This form enters a single row in a single table in the database.The table has a few possible null columns defined, in those cases where the user does not have any data for those columns at that particular time.
I have to provide controls for passing data to those null columns nevertheless. In my case, I have two such columns that accept null values, and two corresponding controls - a textbox and a datetimepicker. The datetimepicker has a checkbox added to it so that if it is supposed to be null it doesn't pass the default current date value, and remains unchecked to explicitly specify that it is supposed to be null. By default it is unchecked.
My code is structured as follows:
Form1:
'the sub referenced here resides in a dll file in my dataaccesslayer code, and in my actual example is referenced properly.
'I have shortened the code here for simplicity
[code]....
Now it gives me an error whenever the code comes to the executenonquery(), and says something to the tune of "SqlDateTimeOverflow. Must be between 1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM and 12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM."
I think the value of 'Nothing' from the subprocedure's paramter is not being assigned to the sqlcommand's parameter as a database NULL, which is what I need to pass to the database.I know instead of using optional parameters I can easily create overloaded subprocedures where one sub allows not passing values where the column(s) is supposed to null and other overloaded subs permit combinations of which column(s) are null or not. But it is simple as long as there is just one, or at the most two null columns in a table. If I have dozens of null values in a table that the user can choose to enter or not in a data entry form?

I have an asp.net gridview that is originally bound to a sqldatasource control, but when the user presses an external button, it instead gets the contents of a datatable rather than a SQLdatasource control. I therefore had to write code in the PageIndexChanging event of the gridview to allow for paging. My code is as follows:
Protected Sub gvEvents_PageIndexChanging(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewPageEventArgs) Handles gvEvents.PageIndexChanging
gvEvents.PageIndex = e.NewPageIndex
gvEvents.DataBind()
This worked beautifully until I added an AJAX update panel so the whole page wouldn't postback every time it paged, and paging stopped working. I debugged it and discovered that it is actually calling the PageIndexChanging event, but nothing is happening. I searched the web and found a few people with the same problem, but their solutions did not work for me. There was one on this site whose problem was solved by the following:
In PageIndexchanging event, where you bind data to grid, make sure, data is again fetched from the DB
I don't know what that means; my data was being bound as demonstrated above. I have "enable paging" set to true and EnableSortingAndPagingCallbacks set to false.
I am including my markup for the updatepanel below.
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel2" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional">
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="ibtnSearch" />
</Triggers>

Is it possible to make a procedure have a single parameter but the values for that parameter are more than one? I have this procedure:
Public Sub autoComplete(ByVal cboCombo As ComboBox)

.AutoCompleteMode = AutoCompleteMode.Append[code]....
Now I was wondering if there is a way to use it like this:
autoComplete(myCombobox1, myCombobox2, myCombobox3)
Or can I use a procedure like this with 'With...End With'?

One of the things that I think is really cool about VB.NET is how built-in functions and subs have extra help text in their ToolTips like "Expression: String expression to search for replace string." as well as the usual "Replace(...parameters...) as string" text. So are the pop up boxes with things like "CompareMethod.Binary" or "CompareMethod.Text." And finally I like how some functions and subs have different sets of parameters for the same routine. For example, New FileStream() starts with either a path (string) parameter or handle parameter, but none of the 15 sets of parameters contain both path and handle parameters. Is there a way that I can set up the classes and functions I write to use these things or do they only work with built in classes and functions? If there is a way, what are the proper names for them so I can look them up in the VS/VB documentation? I would be happy enough if someone would give me an example of them, but it would be nicer if I could go through the documentation and find out if there are other cool things that are related or near by.

What is the VB.Net that will do exactly the vbscript does? I like paramer(0) and 1 and 2 etc since I don't need to define the parameter(0) as integer or varchar etc. I remembered I have discuss this before and it is possible to do in VB.NET?
