Handle The Popup Messages Thrown In Web Application Using VB?
Nov 17, 2009
I am developing a tool to automate testing of a web application. I want to handle the popup messages thrown in scenarios. The problem am facing is when the application runs a popup message is thrown, but only after a response is given to the message box(ie clicking on any buttons in the message box) the execution continues, till then the web browser is busy waiting for a response.

I need to handle events that are thrown by Internet Explorer 8. I am able to handle events associated with the first tab that is created when IE8 launches, but I am unable to handle events if the user creates a new tab or opens a new window. I need to handle events of all tabs (and preferably all new windows as well) that are created by the instance of IE8 that is launched by my application.
In my notification area on my taskbar I always see pop up messages from programs. How do i do this, when I add notifyicon to my form it just put the icon there but no pop up message of my choice.
I'm using a bindingnavigator. My datasource has the column "key1" marked as unique = true. The user presses the "+" button on the screen. A blank form is presented as expected to allow entry for the new record. The user enters "A" in the "key1" field, "A" already exists in the dataset as all records have been returned by the fill command of the tableadapter, the user then, without attempting to click the save button, clicks in the "PositionItem" textbox in the bindingnavigator. They then enter a number (say "1" for instance to go to the first record in the bindingsource), when they press enter an unhandled exception of type ContraintException is thrown. The exception is expected since the Constraint is not met. But how can I handle this exception, or how to I reimplement the code to do the work of the "PositionItem"? I know how to override the "movenextitem", "movepreviousitem", etc.
I am automating an application login using vbscript.[code]after this, there is a security pop up which asks for user name and password.I dont want to disable the pop-up. Rather i want to be able to put user id and password in to it.which MSDN has provided for handling extra windows(This for development rather than for automation I guess) but does not work out.`objIE.Document.GetElementByID..also does not work out becuse the pop-up does not come under 'Document' object. it comes directly under objIE, but could not find anything to handle it.
What is the best way to handle a function that might occasional fail to evaluate, but even when it does fail does not require a halt of the parent routine, though sometimes might require an explanation to the user?I have such a function, deep in my code, that returns a number. Codingwise, the simplest approach would be to make the function nullable, and return null when it can't evaluate. That way the calling routine can continue while also knowing the function failed to return a number.
However, depending upon the circumstances, sometimes I want to display the reason for the fail to the user so they know what to fix. Obviously just returning null isn't enough information. Should I be raising messages inside the function itself as it evaluates for anonymous listeners to catch, to be displayed if desired?(For those rightfully pointing out that logic functions shouldn't be responsible for creating user messages, I didn't mean to imply the function generates the full text message, just somehow transmits the reason for the problem so that the UI could later parse that into a message)
The other option I suppose would be throw exceptions inside the function if it can't evaluate, then catch and interpret to user messages if desired. However, as stated the inability to evaluate typically does not signify a halt to the routine, and now I'd have to put a Try...Catch block around the function call everytime I use it.
This may be a debugger issue, but here goes:I have this piece of code:
Private Function Connect() As Boolean Try sessionBegun = False[code].....
My intention is to 'convert' the low level exception into something more meaningful, so I throw an exception of my own creation. I want this to bubble up to a place where I can handle it.However what is happening is my debugger breaks and tells me that an exception of type "QuickBooksConnectionException" was thrown.I know that, I just threw it, why are you catching it? From what I've read, this ought to work, and there doesn't appear to be an analogous Java throws keyword, so perhaps it is my debugger.
I am in the process of developing a messaging framework for a windows application that sends messages to a java application. To be precise when the win app wants to send a message it simply drops the message in a common database table which will be picked up by the java app. The windows application is deployed across 10 application servers (10 instances) over citrix for load balancing. Each instance of the application is capable of sending a message to the java application and each of these messages should have a unique id. From my end I need to make sure every message generated has to carry a unique id so that they can be identified when necessary. All the messages can be cleared every day or two.i am not quite sure about a best method of achieving this. Initially I wanted to create a static method that serves the next available id (incrementing the last id by 1). But this approach willn't guarantee unique number as the application starts only when at least one user is logged on. For e.g .On one server the app starts when a user logs in, he then sends a message and then the application stops when that user logs off. So when a next request for the app comes to that server a new instance will be started.
i have a vb.net application in which i have to guide the user how to use the software by using messages. For example, when the application loads, a message appears on the screen telling the user what he has to do next.
i've been searching on the net how to do this but can't find a way. Can anyone give me an idea how can implement this?

here I am again I have written a small class called 'Messages' that holds the user messages. The case is that I am not being able to import it. Here it is:
I am writing a support application and want to send alerts and messages to the applications to show the user.
Example: Application opens at start-up, I post an alert of an upcoming network outage, the user gets a notification in the task-bar that when clicked will open the full message in my application.
I have a console application where I successfully have added custom menu item in the application's system menu using the Windows API calls. How do I hook into the events to capture the event raised when the user clicks on one of these menus? All my Google results talks about overriding the WndProc method, but this doesn't exist in a console application.

I'm trying to use the WebKit-component ([URL]) in VB with the help of Visual Studio 2008. This is running without problems, except for two following two issues:
1. Hints/Tooltips are not shown (e.g. as there usually will appear one if you stay with the mouse over the Google-logo)
2. If there's a popup-window, I don't know how to get the new desired URL.
I have already asked about the problem in java forum. Now i think the solution is only possible through microsoft products.Problem is i want to get the handle of a application and send commands to that application. Is it possible commands are send to combo box , text area, buttons etc..
on the form event: FormClosing I have this code that saves a treeview to xml, when it is saved it displays a message, but when I click the messagebox OK button, the messagebox keeps popping up and won't close that form. Here is the code I use:
Private Sub AddressBook_FormClosing(sender As System.Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles MyBase.FormClosing 'Build our List of custom objects from our TreeView's Nodes
I'm working with a Silverlight Popup control (SL4). I would like to update data shown on that popup every time the user opens it (IsOpen=true) by passing a string and calling a Private method located in the Popup control behind code to fetch updated data.
I was hoping to place code to make this happen in the Opened event of the Popup, but such an event does not seem to exist (even though I found some documentation on it).
I have a usercontrol that has a popup that displays another usercontrol when the user selects an item from a listbox. When the parent initializes, all the usercontrols initialize.
Im going to make my application require a Serial key(No clue how this works). And how do i prevent jumping messages. My friend said that there most used for getting keys and avoiding key asking.
I am trying to clean up my code in a project I have been working on by creating two separate modules one that disables a service and one that enables a service through the registry all of this worked fine in one big form all together but I would like to also reuse the module in some other projects, I am getting this message however "Warning1Function 'ApplicationLayerGatewayDisable' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used". [Code]. what do i need to do to get rid of these warnings ? or do I just ignore them?
When using WCF together with Enterprise Library 5.0's validation application block, is it possible to customize the error messages which are sent back to the client? I've added the ValidationBehaviour-attribute to my service contract and the FaultContract-attribute to the operation:
[Code]...
The service returns ValidationFault as it should, but instead of having the error message and tag which I've defined, it uses some generic values. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
I am creating an application which requires user to enter some data using popup. There will be text boxes and drop down list which will be filled by the user. Once the user fills the required information and submits it using a button, the popup will dissapear. Can anyone direct me how to use Popup control to contain textbox, drop down list and buttons.
is it possible to add some VB.net code to handle all the errors in my application. (and not to go in each sub and add the on error intruction) I want to handle every error.
