I have a windows service application that runs a timer. When this timer ticks it starts another application that runs a process.The application is started but it does nothing. On the other hand if i run the application manually it works fine.
View 5 Repliesi have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

The Timer canot work at Windows services, Anyone face b4 ?? Any extra setting need to set b4 use it ??

Right now I have a windows service which only task is to gather data from a database with a specific DSN and then send out an email if the data is valid. The service contains a timer which ticks every 5 minuts and performs the tasks above.Now I need to re-write the windows service to be able to run on more than 1 DSN.I was thinking of making several threads inside the windows service and then again have a seperat timer inside each thread.Is this a good idea and how can this be done? I want to avoid having a windows service for each DSN.[code]

View 7 RepliesI wrote an application that have two timers, one of them (timer_poll) when the ticks event i change the enable to false in order to execute a code. this code writes an information in a COM, and after recieved the information from the COM from a Funtion I change the Enable property for the timer_poll to enable again but it have neve run again.the timer_poll_tick_1 does not start again, i activate a breckpoint, I can confirm that the timer_poll.enable=true because i put a button on the application that on its click event it shows me tha properties of the timer_poll, like this:

I wrote a VB.NET Windows Service, which works fine. I have only one issue with it. I want the service to execute on the half hour and top of the hour marks (e.g. 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, etc etc etc). I am using the following code:

This code works, however, if the service starts at, say, 10:15, then it executes at 10:15, 10:45, 11:15, 11:45. How do I make it so it always executes on the 30 minute and top of the hour marks?

Thus, after 768 "ticks" have gone exactly 24 seconds.The control "Timer" that exists in Visual Studio does not accept decimal values.So I had to round the value of the range to 31 or 32. But this raises a problem since the end of the 768 ticks there is a difference of half a second or more. And I need to run the 768 ticks in exactly 24 seconds.I've been researching, and I read some things about the "High-Resolution Timer. " But I did not understand exactly how to use it, and how to set your interval to 31.25 mils, and do that every period of this interval to run the code.
View 1 RepliesI have a VB.NET desktop application that I'm using to monitor events in another windows application running on my system.I need to respond to certain events in a matter of seconds.One of the events I'm monitoring instantly changes the window title of a child window within the main process (I'm not changing it, the application I'm monitoring causes the change in it's own child window title).I have a function that uses windows API's to iterate through the title text of all the process's child windows, and I'm checking for certain values in the titles.Is it a bad idea to be running this timer/title check once every second? Are there performance issues associated with running a timer in windows every second 24/7? Is it also bad for performance to be calling the API's which retrieve the titles of all the application's child windows? Could I eventually cause that application to crash by sending requests to it so often?

I added a web reference to another web service with no problem. But I could not add a web reference to MY OWN web service. It was blocked by a Discovery Credential dialog that could not succeed. After days of communication with godaddy tech support they stated it could not be done (for security reasons).

View 2 RepliesI have created and deployed a windows service application and I added this line of code "System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Launch()" in the beginning of OnStart method in order to be able to debug the service but when I start the service the nothing is happened. I think the OnStart method have never fired otherwise the visual studio will popup once the debugger.launch line is executed even I tried to write some text to the event viewer to make sure but nothing gets written to the events viewer after I started the service. I included also the debugging symbol in my windows service setup project but I end up with the same result.Why it's not working? How can I make sure that the OnStart method gets fired or not?

I can see the process running in Task Manager but the notepad windows is not open. I used this code in timer_elapsed event.

I made a program that makes backups of a database when the user runs the application, etc. But now my new work is to make it as a Windows Service, to run on the days and time that the person choose, how do I do it ? I never created something like this. I got all the code to make the backup, now the problem is to create it as a service.

I am trying to make a timer that beeps 3-5 times and runs a progress bar. All it has to do is click start (timer set for 2 minutes starts) and as time runs out the progress bar fills. When the time is up 3-5 beeps happen. I am missing the coding for the 3-5 beeps and design parts for it and all coding for that along with code for setting the 2 minute timing. There is no label for telling the time left or to go just a progress bar. Here is my code so far.

I made a timer in visual basic, but for some reason, when i tell it to run for 1 minute (60k miliseconds) it runs wayyyyyyy longer. it does this even for 1 second, which seems to be about 10 seconds. here is the code behind it.

I'm using a Threading.DispatcherTimer and every tick of the timer runs a subroutine. Is it possible that if the subroutine takes longer then 1s for the processor to finish that it will mess up the time of the timer that is counting in seconds?

I checked using ILDASM and it only showed 4 dlls.What could be the issue ? How I can I check why it is getting unwanted DLL's in Release Folder?
