View 3 RepliesI am starting a butterfly program and having an issue and really just barely have it started and would like to get some helpfeedback on how to do this. The following is the instructions and I will make a second post on what code I have so far...The butterfly is going to be moving from side to side in a slightly upward assent when the animation starts. You need to build a set of controls that allow the user to control whether the butterfly ascends (up) or descends (down) and also allows the direction of the butterfly to change (left or right). The best way to implement this feature is through the use of keystrokes that when pressed act to control the direction of the butterfly. Whether you implement this feature through keystrokes or controls, make sure that the feature is communicated to the user.
Butterflies fly by opening and closing their wings. So it is expected that the butterfly will alternate between opened and closed as it wings its way across the form. If the butterfly is moving right, make certain the butterfly graphic displayed shows the butterfly as moving toward the right. If the butterfly is moving to the left, make certain the butterfly graphic displayed shows the butterfly as moving toward the left.
If the butterfly reaches the top of the form in its assent, it should wrap around to the bottom of the form. If the butterfly reaches the bottom of the form in its descent, it should wrap around to the top of the form. If the butterfly reaches the left edge of the form, it should begin flying toward the right side of the form. If the butterfly reaches the right edge of the form, it should begin flying toward the left side of the form. If the user changes the direction of the butterfly, insure that the correct graphics are used in relation to the direction of the butterfly and that the butterfly moves in the indicated direction. Please note that when the butterfly reaches the edge of the form, the butterfly must change direction regardless of any user input.
I've written a custom class MyClass and marked it with the <Serializable()> attribute. I have a set of binary files on my hard drive that I've serialized using BinaryFormatter that came from instances of MyClass.
I've recently changed the structure of MyClass slightly (added some properties, deleted some properties, changed a few methods, etc).
What happens when I try to deserialize the existing objects to this changed class using the code below? I've tried it and not had an error thrown or anything - but surely it can't deserialize properly when the class has changed? Is there a way I can get some useful information out of the serialized files even though I've updated the class?

I'm have a data management program. I've fixed everything in it, except when I run my Insert or update commands on a different computer I've installed it on, JIT tells me that the collection has be modified, it then gives me the option to continue or quit. I know it's been modified, the user knows it's been modified, how do I get rid of that?

I attached a picture of my existing panel with its controls in this thread, how do you copy it during run time? My project is a server/client application. whenever the client is connected and sends information to the server listening that information is displayed in the server but in a new panel with controls the same as the existing panel for the server, only the location and the information displayed is different. It would look something like in the 2nd attached picture.
View 1 RepliesI have a program that runs some data manipulation on a file when it is double-clicked and then displays this to the user.However, when I double click on the same file type of a different file it opens in a separate instance of my program instead of the same instance already running, i.e. some message that says would you like to reload file, YesNo, and then given the answer perform the action required.I have found some code to stop a second instance from opening, but this is inconvienient for the user to close out of the program everytime they want to view a new file.[code]

View 10 Repliesi have a program called Vip Task Manager.This program lets me set up task which others have to complete.When they are done with a task they have to mark it "completed" and make a report on what they have done and used to perform this task.Vip Task Manager has a button which directs them to an upload form, now when they press the "open" button I would like this to happen: Open a certain report making program I made myself.When they finished writing their report and press save, the program saves this report on a dedicated network HDD (.txt file) and closes itself.Then add the file or link to the upload form in Vip Task Manager.What it all comes down to is that they dont have to minimize Vip task manager, open the report making software, save it, go to vip task manager, press upload, press open, look where this file is saved, select it, and upload it.now, typed in red is whats already been taken care of.The rest, I have no idea where to begin to be honest.First I want to find out how to retrieve that a button is pressed in a existing program. View 4 RepliesVB express.yesterday my computer started squawking about the project that I was running in debug being edited outside of the editor, and did I want to reload.The message box gave me four choices: Yes, Yes to All,No,and No to All.It started doing it when I had a new project with nothing but a multiline text box that I was trying to use to display the numbers in a for next loop there was practically nothing there that I did.It squawked about that for projects that I ran many times before, and haven't edited at all recently.It kept coming back repeatedly.So far as I know, I have edited nothing outside the editor.What would I be reloading?

I have a number of files in a folder, I need to get the last modified date. So I used FDate = IO.File.GetLastWriteTime(FName) Works fine with some files, but on others, I get a date of 1/1/1601. But when I check the files in Windows Explorer, all the dates look normal (recent). So, I'm gessing there are multiple files dates stored in the file system, and the ones dotnet is seeing are not the ones windows is seeing. How can I get exactly the date which appears as "date modified" in a file explorer window? I tried some vb6 api stuff but that doesn't seem to work in dotnet.

my idea of implementation is -when ever any file is modified on a server, compare timestamps and force copy the modified in the other two How should i go for implementing it?

I have several textboxes trough which i add data in the database. after clicking the save button the data is added to teh database. and if i click again on the ssave button without changing the content of the texbox it adds the same data to the database. i have tryied using textbox.modified but it only works for blank textboxes. how could i prevent from adding the same data?

I am working on a vb.net project which is concern about the computer file forensic. Thing is i wish know is there any idea how do we know a file was modified and which part of the content was modified. For example, a file was consist of number of bytes which could be translate in string with HexEditor (* FF D8 00 EF.....). If someone was modified certain hex number from the file like (* 00 00 00 EF....)How do we know those hex numbers was modified? Any .NET class function can peform the action like that? Or is there any idea to do that?
