Save Updates In A GridView Control In Program To An Existing XML Document?
Dec 14, 2009
I have an existing xml document with music playlist information, which is read into a GridView control in Visual Basic. I am now wanting to save any updates in the GridView to that xml document.[code]...
I am writing a text editor program and I have written the new, open, save as, exit menu items but I am struggling with writing the save option. Now I have created the menu itself (well vb did, I just used insert standard items) but how do I code up the save menu option so that it updates the current document or if the documnt has not yet been saved bring up the save file dialog. Here is the code I have so far
Public Class Main Private Sub NewToolStripButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NewToolStripButton.Click, NewToolStripMenuItem.Click[code]....
I know I have some finishing touches such as messages and error handling and stuff but at the moment I want to get all the basics working,I think the save menu option is all I am struggling with at the moment.
I am using webbrwoser control to open Word document for editing on winform using vb.net. (vs 2005). Now once user edit the word document, I want to forcefully save that edited document to my document when user directly close win form or user will try to EXIT. Unfortunately, word doc which open on webbrowser control if it is edited and when winfrom is being closed it won't ask us to save where as independent word document aske to save changes. I tried to call method "ShowSaveasDialog()" of webbrowser control on winform close event it did not fire up.
In grid there r checkboxes for selecting the records to be updated as soon as checkbox is checked textboxes changes to edit mode. when data is modified and update button is clicked updation should be done to the database. But when update button is clicked its not working.when i checked through breakpoints i m not getting the value for the variable strID.
Protected Sub btnupdate_Click( ByVal sender As Object , ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnupdate.Click Dim strSql As New StringBuilder( String .Empty) Dim cmdup As New SqlCommand For i As Integer = 0 To GridView1.Rows.Count - 1
I want to open an existing XL document and present it to the user for immediate processing. I'm using this code:
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices Public Class FindAndShowApp ' This is 2 functions from user32.dll (1 for finding the application and 1 to set it to foreground with focus)
I'm simply trying to merge 2 xml documents (adding nodes from one into the other). I've done some Google searching, and tried a few things, but I always get the same error "The node to be inserted is from a different document context" I'm sure I'm missing something simple, just seems like this should not be that difficult. Here's my code:
I have just learned about serialization, and looks very appealing as a way to save application data without much maintenance overhead. But I have one issue that I would like answered before I start coding. If a user saves a project via serialization, and then the program gets an update, say one that might have added or removed a property for an object. If the user then tries to load his previous project with the updated program, since the object now has a modified structure won't it fail to load from the previously serialized data?Would there be any way to recover/convert that saved data to the current object structure?
1.) I dragged my detail view over to the form window to create a bindingnavigator, fields, etc. When I press save on the form, the database is temporairly saved. However, if I save my visual basic project, I lose all the changes I have made to my database. Is there a specific save command that updates the access file permanently? The default command added by dragging over the dataset does not work.
2. My database is accessed with the following string:[code]However, doesn't this mean that the database MUST be placed in that specific folder on any PC? Is there a way to simply build the database into the compile so the program automatically generates the database when installed on anyones computer?
3.) This might be fixed by fixing the previous two issues, but if I compile my program and try to install it, I get an error message "Could not download the application. The application is missing required files."
I need to save the results of each search that I run on my database, into an excel file. So it is an iterative process where the new search results are added on as new rows to the excel file in each export. I am running the following code which works perfectly fine but for the fact that each export is saved to a newly created excel file.[code]...
I am trying to understand how the binding navigator buttons are actually working.
I started by creating a table called "Students" in MS Access,
I then "dragged and dropped" that table onto my VB form after importing the data connection.
When I debug, I click the add new (the yellow plus "+") then I type info into my fields (700_Number, First_Name, MI, Last_Name). (700_Number=Primary Key)
After I am finished typing into the four text boxes, I click save. If I end my program then start the debugger again, the record is still there...it goes away only if I change some of the code anywhere in my program.
Also, I am trying to use the record I just put into my database for another part of my program. I use this line of code:
Please can you translate the above line of C# into VB.NET?At runtime, I'm trying to update an existing GridView column, as opposed to adding new columns, just before a DataBind()
I don't like to build myprogram to a click-onceapplication becauseI lose the .exe and I don't know how to edit it after building it. So unless someone this, here is my main question:I was thinking about updating a .txt file that have uploaded somewhere that has the current available version. Can I use streamreader for an online file? And if so, if the available version is updated, how can I edit the code and everything to updatethe file?
As most programers will want after spending a long time on a program is to implement program updates, so have i.
What i want is a nice simple way of doing the following check if file exists as "www.mydomain.com/program/install.exe" if true, download and launch install.exe on completion, un intstall current vertion ( if possible )
I am making a calculator application that's in beta and will check for updates every so often. What I'm asking is if its possible to make a program check for updates.
1). Whats a server? are they web based or locally on a pc?
2). I've made a program and want to make updates for it and put them on the web for download, Do i need a server to do this?
3). How do i make updates work on visual basic 2008, i mean ive made a program and i want to put it on the internet but i also want to bring out updates, apparently i can use visual basic to automatically download updates and install them. What do i need to do this? where can the updates be downloaded from on the internet? will a file share like rapidshare work?
Can a custom control NEW Sub be the only one that executes when Inheriting from an existing control please?I am Inheriting from TabControl and I do not want the base New Sub called, is this possible? In other words, I do not want TabPage1 and TabPage2 to be added.A Form has an Activated Sub which runs once a Form is activated. It is a pity that Microsoft have not got such a method in the baseControl Class otherwise I could have used it within a custom TabControl.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Activated(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Activated End Sub
Tried searching and found some related issues but none exactly like I was having I iterate thorugh a DGV and write to one of the fields of the row. After it writes this field, I do an update() command.
If the user chooses to save over an existing file, I want to essentially delete the file first, then re-create it and save to it. Basically, I don't want to append to the file. I want to completely overwrite. However, I am just running into all these snags. It basially deletes the file as soon as the savefiledialog box opens. before, it would simply append. [code]
I'm creating a notepad application with richtextbox as the editor. I have pretty much all of the funtions I want for the application itself, but I want a code that will help me understand whether it has been saved to the computer already. For example, just like in notepad, where you can open a .txt file, and if you don't modify it, it won't prompt you to save on application.exit(), but if you do modify the file in any way, it will ask you if you want to save, and it will automatically save over the opened file without popping up a savefiledialog.
I want my application to do the same thing, and also with any files that I save. For example, when I save a new file, after it prompts me with the savefiledialog, and I save the file to a directory, on my next "save" not "save as" I want it to recognize where it previously saved the file to overwrite it without prompting me with a savefiledialog like "Save As" does. There must be a code to recognize where it was last saved, or opened, but right now my default directory ("Initial directory") for both the open and savefiledialogs are set to the C:/ direcotry.
I'm very very very new to VB.Net and am doing a class project. I want the user to simply clicka print button and get a printout of an existing Word document. Is this possible and if so, can someone suggest the code?
I am using the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel library in an ASP.NET application, and I have populated a Worksheet in a Workbook. I want the user to be prompted to Save the document to their machine, but I cannot find a way to do it (myWorkbook.SaveAs(...) doesn't work).
I was trying out the code (vb 2010) below from another author but as a newbie don't really know how to actually make it create and save the document since it is very limited in explanation.
One thing I'm running into from the start is that the doc.add and doc.save statements receive "Declaration expected".[code]...
