View 8 RepliesHow can i best make a movable widget within a windows form application? I wanted a area inside the form where the widgets can be placed / moved, i was thinking something like Windows desktop gadgets, where you can move them around and add/remove them. i was thinking of using a group box to contain each individual widget (notepad, time, calc ect) and a flow layout panel to contain and move all of the widgets.
Also i was hoping there would be a way to actually have icons to press which place the widgets into the flow layout panel.
Is it just me or did google change the way it returns results - drastically - ? I can't seem to find anything I'm looking for in the last week or so!I'm trying to find out how to create an API for my desktop application.
View 7 RepliesI am trying to create a 'Desk Top' Short Cut, for a Web Browser I created with Visual Basic 6. I will put it onto my website, so the public can download it (the Web Browser).*It will be an exe (Executable File). My short cut ( on the desk top) will*be a picture*ICON .ico file, which is a logo I created.I imagine it will be*stored*in the C Drive of most computers, in the Program Files. PATH: C:Program ilesHomeChannelTVHomeChannelTV.exe *I've tried to learn from many forums. The code I have created is below. I'm getting 1 error.

View 8 RepliesAs part of a program for class we were instructed to create a text file on the user's computer. The instructions were to create the file to the C: (or the same drive as the Windows directory) but Windows7 requires Admin privileges to write to this directory. It works great if I run Visual Studio as admin, but I'd rather just write to an unrestricted area. For example the desktop. Is there a way to write directly to the user's desktop without knowing the user's username. Right now I'm using this "c:UsersNickDesktopScores.txt"; which works but of course the user's name is different on every machine. How would I go about specifying the user's desktop?

View 1 RepliesI'm writing a vb.net (2010) app to extract a zip file in XP to a specific folder. That part works fine. Now I want to create a desktop shortcut to an application (if it exists I need to delete it first)
This should be an easy to find answer but I believe my eye is beginning to twitch!2 error messages: First Error: "Type expected" On Dim shortCut As IWshRuntimeLibrary.IWshShortcut = DirectCast(WshShell.CreateShortcut(FileName, IWshRuntimeLibrary.IWshShortcut), == this is a simple syntax error but I thought the type was the IWshShortcut ==
Second Error: On "With Shortcut" it fusses: " cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initalizer without an explicit instance of the class."

View 3 RepliesI have written a vb.net desktop application for pipe collectors and one of the requests that seems popular is to be able to post pipe details (text) and an image of the pipe onto the user's facebook wall.
Basically the user will bring up their pipe details of choice and be able to click a 'Post To Wall" button which would then post the pipe details onto their wall.

View 1 RepliesSome of u already know I'm making a 'virtual desktop'- thing.Only one problem. When switching to a new desktop it starts a new instance of my app in that desktop (works) and on the form load event it says process.start("explorer.exe") <- here is the problem. It only shows a window not the actually bar. Also this may be important it shows the window, but when I navigate to explorer.exe 'C:Windowsexplorer.exe' and open it there. The explorer bar does show up.
