I am trying to create a sort of 'personal code library' in visual studio 2010 where the form displays a list box of certain project files in vb that I have made in the past and when selected, a button can be pressed that launches the .exe files of those visual basic program project files or displays the source code (.vb file)

I have a file path like this:

The only problem is, that the rest of the file path could change but that.
I have a form with a tabbed control on it. Each tab in the control simply loads an existing file in a reader to display to the user. I have added the files in a folder in my project. When I debug it works great. However, when I publish and move it to another computer, the program runs fine but none of the files show in the tab control tabs. The files do come with the solution when I publish.[code]I know there is a way to make the file path "relative" but I cannot figure out how and there really isn't many resources available to explain how this can be done.

View 2 RepliesI am making trying to make a program that can read the file information directly from a specified file, but I am having a lot of difficulty reading things like file comments.An example of this can be found in windows XP when you alternate / right click on any file and click on properties. You'll get a lot of extra information.Now I have a few questions about this.
1.Can this information even be read in VB.NET
2.If so how
3.If not do I need to create some kind of data file to store the file information
Here is what I did so far

I've never had to work with them before, and I think I've got everything down except one big thing: I'm setting it up so that different settings have different values depending on what file is being read. I need to know how to tell vb to take a specific item in an array and make the setting equal to it. I know how to make it read the file and add each new line into the array, just need to make sure I'll have to correct method to get the item in the array to match up the setting.

View 13 RepliesI am working on a project which I want to share with some people, but since I wont give away my source, I want them to be able to customize the values (By values, I mean like if I have a button that says Donate, just an example, then I want the application to read the link from a .xml file, or an .ini file, so people can edit it)
I dont know if that IS Values, but it sounds like it to me.
Here is my Donate Button code (STILL JUST AN EXAMPLE)

wanted to create a chat loader, and i wanted it to read values from a xml table.
This is the code i have used in Vb.
ChatXml.ReadXmlSchema(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "/../Release/chat.xml")
ChatXml.ReadXml(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "/../Release/chat.xml")
ComboBox1.DataSource = ChatXml.Tables

I am trying to read and display a file using MapPath as follows :
Response.ContentType = "Application/pdf"
Dim FilePath As String = MapPath("../Document/123.pdf")
Response.WriteFile(FilePath)
Response.End()
This procedure will work fine and display in the browser. However, if I save the file to C:Document123.pdf, how can I access this file using relative path in MapPath function. Is there an option to access the file which is saved out of IIS server? I am using vb.net 2003.
I'm using acrobat that returns unix paths instead of windows path's. So im wondering if there is a way in vb.net to convert the path to windows path.
i tried using:
docs(i) = javaScriptObj.path().ToString.Replace("/", "").Substring(1)
position = docs(i).IndexOf("")
docs(i) = docs(i).Substring(0, position) + ":" + docs(i).Substring(position + 1)
this only works on local files, but fails when im starting to use network drives.
I have a windows form which to summarize lets the user open a file containing 32 bit hashes, then search for one of them. The hash is then converted to its string representation. The application is giving the results I would expect but I'd like to make it execute faster than it does now; some files can be pretty big > 100 MB.
I'm doing the file read using a BackgroundWorker object to display progress updates and ensure that the UI is available during the process. But for that i need to add a System.Threading.Sleep(1) instruction in the loop; otherwise the application freezes with big files. And System.Threading.Sleep(1) creates a noticeable lag. Any suggestions on how to make searches fast without freezing the UI? Getting speeds comparable to hex editor programs for example.
