I wanted to know how I would be able to upload files to my server from my WinForms .exe application. I tried: My.Computer.Network.UploadFile(myFile, myServer) but I get this error 'The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.' Anyone know another way of uploading files to my server from a .exe?

I am only allowed to use HTTP in my school (ie, no FTP is allowed). and i have to upload some file from a specific folder on my PC to a web page at 1 hour intervals automatically (ie, every hour a file is dropped into that folder, and i have to get a windows service or desktop application that would automatically detect the new file, and the file finally show on my website page, hosted on the school server.) Remember, the files reside in a folder called DAT on my personal computer in my office.

I need to find a good control for VB.Net to upload big files to an FTP server:
Can upload files up to 10GB
Uses passive mode
Provides feedback during upload, to make sure it's going OK
Can cancel and resume
Up to two concurrent connections
I read about WebClient + NetworkCredential, but it doesn't seem to provide progress infos. There are also the FTPWebRequest/FTPWebResponse classes from WebRequest/WebResponse, as well as WebClient.UploadFileAsync.

So my program allows people to download/upload text files from an FTP server... But... is this safe? I've always been a little scared with FTP because I fear that some lowlife is gonna hack into it. Is there another way to do this? Or is there a way to make this connection much safer?

I have some code that does a Find & Replace in some text files, and closes the file when complete. However, when I try to use the Kill command in VB to cleanup these files (they are temporary files) when the program is closed, I get errors that the file is in use by another app or process. Is there a way I can force these files to close first? This also happens when I scan a document using the EZTWAIN.dll Scan to native function.Everything goes fine, but if I try to scan again to overwrite the file, the file is in use. This is happening on Windows Vista SP1.

So, in this program I added 2 necessary login codes let's say, first a code that I will provide and then the username and password from my website. I implemented both ways, the first one worked perfectly, however, the second one is giving me some problems, my idea for that control was not using a database of users, that was going to be too complicated for a 14 year old guy, so I decided to take the source code for my website and I took a fragment, the boxes for the login, username, password, forgot your password, remember me and some other boxes, great, that worked perfectly, I uploaded the HTML modified document to my website's files and linked it to the URL of the webbrowser control in one new form, good, it's working, but I wanted a simple condition that works for this function "When the webbrowser loads the success website, hide me and show the past login form, when this one shows the failed login, popup a messagebox that says the error.". I have been looking for that simple condition for a long time. I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express Edition.

Scenario: I want to develop an application. The application should be able to connect to my remote server and download data to the local disk , while downloading it should check for new files and only download the new ones simultaneously creating the required(new) folders.
Problem: I have no idea how to compare the files in the server with the ones in the local disk. How to download only the new files from the server to the local disk?
What am thinking?: I want to sync the files in the local machine with the ones in the server. I am planning to use rsync for syncing but i have no idea how to use it with ASP.NET.

I'm doing a project where we are re-creating a very old system. The client wants the same base functionality and some improvements. One of the things I'm currently working on is the note-system. These are used as flags of some sort, but are also used as a comment field for some products or client profiles. In the old system you could write the text and save it like you would get in a .txt file. They want the new one to be able to do word formatting such as:
Different font sizes (Only some parts of the text)
Different font colours (Only some parts of the text)
Underlining of words
Bolding
Italics
Tab-spaces
Those are the specs they want. What I need to know is the following:
1) How do I do that?
2) Currently they store all these files on the server as text files and the database have paths that refers to each file. I want to be able to save a text file with that formatting to the HDD of the server like in the old system.
3) If possible I would like to save that text to the database with the formatting.

Is there a way I can preserve or maintain it's original creation/modified date?

I have a page which lists all the files in a particular folder (all PDFs), using a data-table and gridview. I'm currently sorting this table by the filename (by using a dataview), which isn't that helpful, and I want the gridview of files sorted by the file created or file modified date (as recorded in Windows). If that's not possible, a second option would be to extract the date from the file name string (no problem doing that), and sort the dataview/datatable or gridview based on that.

I have read about Network.Downloadfile and I think I understand it! I want to know if there is an easy way to test a files date modified before downloading it. I have a lot of files in the folder. I really want to "sync" the folder. I don't want to copy every file every time I want to only download the file if I don't have the file in the destination location or if I have an Old copy.

I thought I had my uploads working correctly on Friday, but when I tested the site this morning, it doesn't work right. My uploads are supposed to be going into an uploads/ file and then to a file that corresponds to the ProductID to which that upload is going.
Ex: My Test Product is ProductID 519. I want to upload a document so it should go to uploads/519. When I hover over the uploaded file, it says uploads/519/PhoneList.xls - which is correct. But when I check my Solution Explorer in Visual Studio 2010, the file shows up outside of the 519 file as 519PhoneList.xls
