VS 2008 Files Modified Are In A Locked State

I have some code that does a Find & Replace in some text files, and closes the file when complete.However, when I try to use the Kill command in VB to cleanup these files (they are temporary files) when the program is closed, I get errors that the file is in use by another app or process.Is there a way I can force these files to close first? This also happens when I scan a document using the EZTWAIN.dll Scan to native function.Everything goes fine, but if I try to scan again to overwrite the file, the file is in use.This is happening on Windows Vista SP1.

I have read about Network.Downloadfile and I think I understand it! I want to know if there is an easy way to test a files date modified before downloading it. I have a lot of files in the folder. I really want to "sync" the folder. I don't want to copy every file every time I want to only download the file if I don't have the file in the destination location or if I have an Old copy.

I have a filesystemwatcher waiting for .jpg files to arrive from the camera.he file system watcher invokes a delegate (it works but is that the proper way to handle it?) sub that does a couple of things:1. Adds the just arrived file name to a table2. Attempts to display the image in a picturebox on the form. When it displays the image it imprints some information on the image that the user has entered on the screen. I use a file stream to retrieve the image.The problem is, I'm getting a file in use orror on the "Img = ystem.Drawing.Image.FromStream(fs)"statement. Not all the time. Sometimes I can add three or four files to the folder in rapid succession with no issue. But then out of the blue the error will occur. Sometimes it's there to stay but other times it will go away and allow me to add morefiles.

I have a PictureBox control (in Form3) that is used is used as a drop box where the user can drag and drop one or more image files at a time. When the user imports files, the form (Form3) will close itself.Meanwhile,the application stores file data in Form1.ListView1.The following is the code that I use for PictureBox's DragDrop event.

Im trying to create an incremental backup utility on a web form using vb.net for code behind.
So far i can copy files from directories including sub directories and that part works fine, my main problem is copying only the most recent / modified files to the backup folder, currently it is moving all the files each time.

So, in this program I added 2 necessary login codes let's say, first a code that I will provide and then the username and password from my website. I implemented both ways, the first one worked perfectly, however, the second one is giving me some problems, my idea for that control was not using a database of users, that was going to be too complicated for a 14 year old guy, so I decided to take the source code for my website and I took a fragment, the boxes for the login, username, password, forgot your password, remember me and some other boxes, great, that worked perfectly, I uploaded the HTML modified document to my website's files and linked it to the URL of the webbrowser control in one new form, good, it's working, but I wanted a simple condition that works for this function "When the webbrowser loads the success website, hide me and show the past login form, when this one shows the failed login, popup a messagebox that says the error.". I have been looking for that simple condition for a long time. I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express Edition.

I have created installer from Visual Studio Package and Deployment, but after successful installation, the installer files (like dlls, images and all supporting files) modified date or even creation date has been changed and all have the same date depends on the date of installation. Is there a way I can preserve or maintain it's original creation/modified date?

I have a page which lists all the files in a particular folder (all PDFs), using a data-table and gridview. I'm currently sorting this table by the filename (by using a dataview), which isn't that helpful, and I want the gridview of files sorted by the file created or file modified date (as recorded in Windows). If that's not possible, a second option would be to extract the date from the file name string (no problem doing that), and sort the dataview/datatable or gridview based on that.

I've noticed that a few download management programs do this, like uTorrent for example, where you can set it to shut down the system when the download(s) complete and I would like to implement this in my app as well.
Right now I'm using
Process.Start("shutdown.exe", "-s -t 05")
which works fine if the user is logged in, but my home computer has the screen saver set to lock the computer in which all my app does is exit but the system doesn't shut down like it does when it's logged in. In uTorrent the system shuts down whether the user is logged in or the system is locked Also I would like to know how to detect if the system is locked or not because if they are logged in I, like uTorrent, would like to prompt the user that the system is about to shut down and give them 30 seconds to cancel it.In addition to

My application i am using on another computer (Windows Vista) has got a screenshot code inside a timer of 10 seconds. It works perfectly until the user Locks Windows.
When the user locks windows or switches user then the application throws a hissy fit and errors because it cannot take screenshot pictures.
Is there a way i can tell if the computer has been locked and the been unlocked
This way i can have a timer of 1 second and if the computer has been locked then the timer for the screenshots can been stopped , and then when the user logs back in the timer can restart.

I am accessing an sqlite database file from my VB.NET application.Currently, I use Try... Catch when opening the connection to the database, however if the database is locked by another application, it will take 5-10 seconds to throw the exception which says that the database is locked.
So I want to know if there is a way to test if the database is locked before I try to open the connection... because the long 5-10 second pause is annoying.

Is there a way to maintain application modified Settings in the settings files after a program update? i.e. I have 10 or so values in the settings file and the users can modify them... when I send a program update they revert back to what I initially programmed them to be.

I was able to do this all successfully in VBA, but just couldn't convert it to work in VS 2008. Basically I'm in search for a script that Loops the following 3 processes, I also need it to run from an .exe file or similar with no UI (User Interface) so it constantly runs in the background (This is all to go with a multimedia software):
if file 'c:X.txt' has been modified equal to or more than 15 minutes ago, then send key R.
if file 'c:X.txt' has been modified equal to less than 5 minutes ago, then turn on numlock light, if not then turn off light.
if file 'c:X.txt' has been not been modified for the last 4 hours, then send key delete file.

I'm making a sort of like platform for archive editing.This includes opening archives, displaying content, extract files, edit files, place files back in the archives.My problem is, that I can't trigger the program to replace a file to the archives as soon it is modified.I did think of making a thread, checking all file modified dates, but since it regards over 100 files it lags. I have two tables "Person" and "Alias" in a one to many relationship. I have a DGV for "Person" and want to use a combobox for the Aliases. I also have a textbox and a button for the user to type the alias name and click the button to add the alias name to the combobox and update the dataset. I keep getting the "Items collection cannot be modified when the DataSource property is set." Error. But if i use a DGV instead of a combobox for aliases, I have no errors and everything works fine. If I remove the datasource property for the combobox it will not get populated with the data already entered, so how, or can I, set it up where the combobox gets populated when the form loads and able to add items to the combobox????

Ok everyone knows that you can get the visibility of a control by control.visible...now my question is this: how can i get the visibility of a control without taking parent controls into account ...ie. if i have a button in a picture box ... and the picture box is invisible (even though the button property is visible in the designer) the value returns false.How can i return the visible value for the control that is displayed as it would be in the designer?

I've got a nice little setup at the moment with how my button is, but for some reason, it shows a black border around it if I show any MessageBox or Dialog that I have, and I can paint over it, but it's impossible for me to do so without it looking wrong.[code]If I click the exit button without the message box code, it works fine!
