An action that I'm trying to automatically complete on a web page requires me to click "Yes" on a JavaScript alert box. Obviously the entire process cannot be automated unless the program clicks "Yes" or "No" for the user. Is there any way that I can capture this alert box and click "Yes" programmatically?
This might seem a ridiculous question but I just want to make 100% sure before I start committing any funds to software purchases. Can I use VB2008to develop automation routines to control Office2010 applications or must I absolutely use VB2010 to do so?I ask this because I installed an Office 2010 pro on my station which already has VB2008 and I do not have any Word14 reference in the COM section of the list of references...
Having created a small (Excel Automation) VB Appl. to manipulate and present data from Excel sheets in an organised form, I ran across a problem resulting from creating a named range on a sheet, the code line:
seems to work as expected, my only issue here is that this was written on a System that is US-en, and when trying this on a PC DE-de - we have users with varoius language sets - the code fails with a COMException. The only cure I have found to date, is to write the German language version of this:
How can I write my code / what tools do I need to use, in order that my application will work with any Excel language - and me not having to know all possible equivalents for a particular command or function?
Dim compiler As ICodeCompiler = New Microsoft.JScript.JScriptCodeProvider().CreateCompiler Dim params As New CompilerParameters params.GenerateInMemory = True
I've written a JavaScript function which validates form input and highlights the input fields and displays any error messages, which I have tested and all works fine. i have called this function from the OnClientClick attribute of an asp:Button tag. However, if the JavaScript function determines there to be validation errors, I want to stop the form from submitting. How do I do this?
I am currently adding keyboard shortcuts to our web application, so from JavaScript. So far, it has consisted mostly in triggering the click events of buttons already exposed in the user-interface.Now, I would like to add another one which redirects to another page. The new page URL needs to be generated based on elements from the source page query string.Basically, I have a date in the query string and I want to generate a new URL for the next day.
Okay sorry to post another simple question but I was browsing through the web trying to learn how to stop a javascript error dialog from appearing on my program and I came across this code on the MSDN website. Me being the idiot, posted the code straight into my code which did not work.
I compiled some VB6 code on my Win7 x64 machine and the result .exe will not run correctly on any other machine. VB6 code is just a new template .exe file with one button, a reference to "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.6 Library" and the following code in the button press event: Dim db Set db = New ADODB.Connection It runs correctly on my machine, but no others (even other Win7 x64 machines) (Update: I found TWO other users where it runs and one of them is Jeff Atwood!, but most machines have the same problem)
I'm creating a Process Control application that will save various data fields to SQL Server 2005. Part of the data will be input via a VB hand-held application which was created on the CE 5.0 - we are running VB.NET 2.0 on Visual Studio 2005. The rest of the data will be collected via plant equipment which will interface will PLCs on the production floor. There are approximately 25 different attributes which will be stored in a SQL server table.
The user wants me to create 3 alert levels that will involve: 1) Checking to see IF a reading was manually input. 2) Checking to see if the value passed or failed.
The FIRST alert involves notifying the operator via the hand-held or some other technique. The SECOND alert involves checking back after a set time interval (15 minutes, 30 minutes, etc.) to see if the attribute passed or failed and then taking a higher action - such as an email, text message or phone call to a higher level manager. If the second check fails, the same escalation process continues with the THIRD alert level - and another action takes place such as a message being sent to yet a higher level manager.
Presumably, once the status check passes, the alert level is re-set back to 0. But I'm thinking that the process that checks for the failed attributes will need to continue to run in the background - probably at set intervals. I'm not sure if the functionality for this is something that would be best handled by VB.NET or SQL Server...
Is it possible to get an asp.net code (preferably vb.net) to query a sql server for results, but for it to somehow wait for a response from the server when a change is found in the records without resorting to server intensive loops? For example, I want to write a query which checks the date of a record, if the date is different from last known date, only then should the query return the results.
For testing purposes, I write a lot of alerts and error messages into a .txt file (some 15 entries per second). At the end of the day, the txt file becomes very large. I am now getting confronted with data loss in my application (threads indicated as being busy). Could it be that my entries in the Log.txt are slowing down my application to the point that the latter becomes unstable ?
Let's say I have items in my WinForms application which have an expiration date. I have more different conditions than this one but let's do it simple. I'd like to trigger an event when an item comes to expiration. What is the ideal way to do so? Checking every X minutes?
i am developing one automate application for tht i hav done some coding i dont know how to proceed further can any one guide me if possible? [code] I am using SHDocVw for IE. Now i need to know how to do. [code]
I have written an automation addin in Excel with C# (addin.dll). To use the addin, I need to 1. register it using "regasm /codebase c:...addin.dll"2. select in ExcelOptionsAddInsExcel AddinsAutomation the respective addin from the list
I would like to automatize 1) and 2), so that the user just needs to run an exe-file in order to use the addin. 1) should be no problem, but how can one automatize 2)?
Ok basically what I need to do is the following:Read FirstExcelDoc (attached)For every row in that: Retrieve data from sql server db based on info in the Orange columns of FirstExcelDoc Let's say I retrieved data elements A, B, C, D, and E from sql server. Then I need to enter those same data elements A, B, and C in another excel spreadsheet (which has formulas etc) After inputing A, B, and C in that spreadsheet, read a couple of calculated fields and compare those results to data elements D and E retrieved originally from SQL Server DB. Finally, output the results in the Blue columns of the FirstExcelDoc spreadsheet for that row.Loop through and do the same thing for row 2 of the FirstExcelDoc and keep on until you see "END TEST" in the FirstExcelDoc.
I'm looking for a method of doing this efficiently. I have read several articles over the past few days as well as those from Mike R. but just need some direction to get started on this.To start of I'm looking for whether to read the entire FirstExcelDoc spreadsheet or just read the info for first policy number(2nd row) and process it and write out the blue column info for that row and then loop through and come back and read the second policy number (3rd row) etc... Please attach a code snippet for either way of reading the data.
I'm using excel via interop in application.Sometimes users kill application that created excel instance and that results in excel instance sitting in memory without any chance of disposing it.First I tried to tackle this using ROT(running object table) looks like not all instances of excel are registered there.Than I tried to somehow mark excel process after it is started via interop.[code]This works as long as excel is visible but in my case excel window is invisible. All I need is to somehow mark process that started via automation with the parent PID, so that later I can kill it if parent does not exist.
I have successfully automated a PowerPoint Metrics presentation with VB.Net. However, since there were many complicated calculations, it took quite some time to make the 120+ slide presentation - so I recently tried to revamp the application to be multi-threaded.
I've got VS2008 and Office2010, but I don't have Office2007. Therefore, I have the Word14 Object Library but not the Word12 Object Library. Will the code that I create for Office2010 automation also work where clients only have Office2007 or will they have to upgrade their office suites?
We have a vb program which is run on our server by scheduled task every day. The program opens about 30 excel files, refreshes the data connections, pivot tables and then saves the document in another location.
This may run fine for a couple days but sooner or later the process starts crashing, usually with this error: RPC_E_SERVERFAULT.
My question is, Is it expected that continually opening/closing/refreshing workbooks will inevitably cause the Excel object to crash at some point.
I have a .net application that uses customerrors web.config module to display meaningful messages for errors. It works without any issues for 500 errors/exceptions caused by non-ajax and ajax components (updatepanel). However, in a scenario where updatepanel's asynchronous request times out, there is no error raised at all. I was able to see the timeout in firebug and come up with a solution that would at least display the error message as an alert and then redirect the user to the 500 error page using javascript but it's not quite doing what the rest of the application does in case of an unhandled errors like these. I basically just want everything to go through "LogEvent" mechanism so based on the severity of the error, it does the necessary work. This 500 error page doesn't have anything in the Server.GetLastError() for these timeout scenarios. Is this an expected behaviour? Can it be changed so I do have access to these timeouts in Server.GetLastError() OR maybe just run this error through "LogEvent" mechanism? Is there a better/more graceful way to handle this issue?
Below is my code to give you an idea, not exactly what I have in my application but pretty close.
I'm having an issue where my excel.exe process doesn't close until I close my .net application. I'd like to avoid using Process.Kill() if at all possible.
Code:
Private Sub WriteRowsToXls(ByVal rows As DataRowCollection, ByVal xlsPath As String, ByVal showStatus As Boolean, Optional ByVal AddTotals As Boolean = True) Dim xlsApp As New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application
[CODE]............
This method references a couple of other methods I use for repeated formatting tasks, I'll include those methods below. (I added the FinalReleaseComObject into the other methods after reading Mike's thread but the issue persists)
Code: Private Sub SetRangeValidation(ByVal rng As Range) With rng.Validation .Delete()
[CODE]..............
Method SetRangeAllBorders does about the same as these other methods but my post is too long to add it. The only other things not shown in these code snippets are a few string variable that are defined in the class, studentWS, studentsWSPW, paymentsWS and paymentsWSPW My App creates an instance of the class, loads some data, runs the method above, and then sets the class to nothing. I'm using .NET 3.5 automating Excel 10
So when i build or click debug on my program. No errors come up and its smooth. So i decide to publish my programme. However. I come up with a bunch of errors during the publishing.
Here they are:Error 1 Cannot publish because a project failed to build. 1 1 Simple CALC
Error 2 Unable to copy file "binReleaseSimple CALC.exe.manifest" to "binReleaseapp.publishApplication FilesSimple CALC_1_0_0_0Simple CALC.exe.manifest". The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.
I have written a web usercontrol (ascx). Inside, there is a Panel that I want to show/hide on click of a hyperlink inside the usercontrol. Normally, this is easy just by doing something like this (the onclick attribute is added to the hyperlink on prerender):
