I'm wondering if there is any scheduler control in Vb.Net -MS VS 2005- and if not I hope I can find a one - free - that I could use on my application...
how to implement scheduling tasks requirement in my application..
I have an application that I need to automate where at a certain time each day, say 6pm, it will run a certain method(which is to check a database for key terms and then access the api to search for these terms). But there is also another process which is running all the time accessing the stream api so when the search is complete, it interrupts the stream and hands over the new terms.
Now I thought of adding the .exe file to windows task scheduler but not sure if that would work. The stream method run indefinitely and at 6pm each day another process needs to run. I thought of using the system.threading.task TaskFactory but when I include it, it shows taskfactory as undefined. ( I do have .net framework 4.0)If it launches using the task scheduler as 6pm with my code logic as follows:

I wanna use this VBS script in my application uninstaller so all tasks created by my application are removed at the uninstall time, however am not familiar with VBS.
I am trying to make a random shift scheduling application for a rotating workforce that must satisfy the following basic requirements: 3 shifts (8 hours each) per day (Morning, Afternoon, Night), 2 workers per shift work a maximum of 7 consecutive days and rest a minimum 1 day. 9 Total workers separate in 5 supervisors and 4 operators, and 2 part time workers (1 supervisor and 1 operator) for covering the possible absences of 9 standard workers. Total days off are 8 days per month (normal sequence 2,2,4) and the vacation days are 22 per year. A basic rule is that the shift must cover from 2 supervisors, or 1 supervisor and 1 operator. 2 operators are forbidden.

View 16 RepliesI am creating a server-client type application that allows the network administrator to perform tasks on remote computers by using TCP sockets (TCPClient and TCPListener).The server application needs to send out a message to a client machine (with client application installed) and from this, the client application will send back the required data (i.e. system info, task progress etc). This part works fine.However, I am having trouble in getting the client application to constantly listen for an information request in the background. It should be listening whenever the application is running. What I want to do is to have an event handler which, when a message comes through, acts upon the instructions to send the relevant information back. The server does not need to constantly listen for data, as it will only receive data after it has sent a request.

I am wanting to write an application that performs common systems tasks from a single location. Just simple things like deleting text files, maybe displaying drive space, etc. In order to even begin to do this I have to understand more about the my.computer class in VB. I need help to implement multiple threads in application.Assume ds.table(0) has 5 and sometime 6 rows rows for i=0 to ds.tables(0).rows.count-1.I have to apply multiple threads, means all five/six rows should start at once using thead and "Process 1" .."Process 4" should also handled by threads.This is hierarchy that I have to apply with threads, how can I do it. I am having an issue where I need to implement a type of thread scheduling... I'm looking to implement a list of tasks, each with a set time that they need to execute, and after the time is up they will execute the respective code that goes with that task. I would use a timer based solution, however, I don't think that it would be very efficient. There will be a very large list of tasks, some of which need to be executed within seconds of being placed in the list.

this is the logic : smallest time + burst time = sum1 if the next arrival time is less than the sum1 then add the next burst time but if the next arrival time is greater than the sum1 then subtract the sum1 to the arrival time so you will get the difference1. after that the difference1 must be added to the sum1 then add the burst time. that is the cycle.

I have four datasets, MainDataSet (for the main data tables) LookupDataSet (for lookup tables States, Countries, Colors, etc) OneFormDataSet (data used on only one form) and ReportsDataSet (data used for reports).I have one form "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", that has all the OleDbDataAdpaters for my project. It also has the DataSets and the OleDbConnection.I have public functions that enable me to load the data tables.
I have a LoadTable function when I can pass a column and a value, and the SQL select command is updated with a WHERE or HAVING, so only the requested data is selected. I also can pass the whole "WHERE ..." part of the SQL select command, so I can have multiple parameters in the SELECT command.On my other forms, I have copies of the DataSets, so I can design grids/controls. In the form_Load events, I manually bind the controls to DataSets and tables in located "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", so all forms are using the same data tables, and changes made to data in one form are reflected in data in other forms.The VS 2008's DataSources, BindingSources and TableAdapters seem much easier to use. how I should implement the new data features in my application?
