Import A Documents Path Into A Database And The Folder Name?
Feb 12, 2009
import a documents path into a database and from a datagrid, when I double click on the relevant row it opens the relevant document. Also I need to be able to import the folder name as well?
I'm fairly new to programming and have little to no experience with sql and file transfers. Here's what I'm trying to do: 1. Link my program to a database containing images (or pathnames to images) 2. Allow user to select a starting image and ending image (max 50) based on image numbers (which they already know) 3. Collect selected images from DB or could just be a copy of the image. 4. Export images to a new folder so that my other program can process and OCR them I have the form built, but I just can't figure this out.
I have a windows service on a server which accesses a folder and database which is on different server. i was told to create an .ini file and add the settings here. so i have to add the path to the folder and database in .ini file, correct?
is there anything else which i should add in .ini file? is it compulsory to give the [section] in the .ini file? How can i access this .ini file from my vb.net program? can i store this .ini file anywhere on the machine or it should be stored in a particular folder?
Hi there, Please i have a folder in which i've stored some pictures and i want to upload one into a picturebox. the paths of the pictures have been stored in a database. Please help me out with this one. i need to get it done ASAP.
I'm trying to collect directories and add to TreeView. In Windows 7, there is a "Documents" folder under Libraries which is basically linked to "My Documents" under "Users". When I click "Documents" in the TreeView, I can get a list of all subdirectories by using
Dim dirs As String() = Directory.GetDirectories(strDir)
In our VB.Net application, we need to get the path to our data folder in Public Documents. In our standalone application this is straighforward using the SHGetFolderPath function. However, for our network application, we run into a problem when we load the application on a Win 7 server and run it from a Win XP workstation. From the workstations, SHGetFolderPath returns the workstation's public documents folder instead of the what we want, which is the server's public documents path.Is there any way within the application to query the public documents path on the server?
I am creating a project that makes use of a folder, at the moment that folder is located in My documents, how would I change this to be default as in the bin debug folder. Dim QCRoot As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments + "Database Files"
I have a web application using VB ASP.NET 3.5 that along with many things allows users to upload documents into a directory on the web server. I would like to know how I can zip a folder on a webserver and download it to the client machine via a submit button.Currently, I have the files displayed as URLs so that the users can right-click and "Save Target As." But I think just having everything zipped in one file would make it alot easier for the users.
how to change the install folder path in a setup and deployment project/Installer class from program files to C:usersPublic in windows 7 and allusers folder in xp.Want to add MVP with my name.
I have a context menu strip, and I need a way to add some kind of file to a folder in my documents. My program will get all the files in that folder then allow the user to pick one of the files. When a file is picked, the file changes the context menu strip completely. I can't figure out how to do this. I figured it could be done with a class library but I guess not. Any help would be great. And some extra info. I need to be able to externally code the file so that when a button in the context menu strip is pressed it does whatever the files tells it to do. How can these things be done?
i am working on my search button that searches for the items in my listbox1. however, i have several problems.. one, is that i do not know how am i supposed to search in folder browsing dialog and two, i cannot search for the items inside my listbox1.
For Each foundFile As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories _MyDocuments, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchAllSubDirectories) --> Note 1
[code]...
note 1: i want to change the directory to a folder browse dialog not in my documents only
note 2: this are the items in the listbox that i am searching for
note 3: if found, the paths of the items will be displayed in this listbox
note 4: if it is not found, it will be displayed here
I've been struggling with this problem in VB.net for a while: whenever I try to access the My Documents, My video's or simular in Windows 7, I get an access denied error. The program that uses this code is a file-backup application, so it's important it can access everything. The app has admin rights, using this line:requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false" />
To confirm, I also get a nice UAC popup when starting. The app accesses the files twice. Once to calculate the file size, and once to actually copy the files. Here is the file-size calculation code (that I found online:) Function GetFolderSize(ByVal DirPath As String, ByVal includeSubFolders As Boolean) As Long
What used to be C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Data is now Win7 as C:UsersPublicPublic Documents or similar..This folder is not part of the Environment.SpecialFolders list. Is there another way to expose the above Public folder?I'm hoping you can programatically use that location for non virtualized read/write/alluser files.
I have a quick question. One of the functions in the program I am writing is to take all of the data entered, compile it into an HTML document, then place that document into a folder. For the past few days, I have just been using a random folder on one of my hard drives to dump the file in, but the problem is that, in my code, I have supplied the folder location as a string ("E:Practice FilesDocuments"), and therein lies the problem. Trying to test my program on a separate system brought the bug to my attention; obviously, this program can only write this file to a location of E:Practice FilesDocuments, and if any other computer that runs this program doesn't have E:Practice FilesDocuments then there is going to be a problem in the program working the way I have intended
So what I would like to do is instead of having it write the file to "E:Practice FilesDocuments," have it write to the default My Documents folder so that the program is no longer specific to my machine only. The problem is, though, I have no clue what the right code is to use. I first tried using
System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().Location to write the file to the default installation directory. This would have worked, but since this is a VB.NET program, the default installation directory isn't in Program Files and doesn't seem to be meant for users to browse through for their documents, plus it seems that trying to write back to this directory causes some unhanded exceptions and whatnot. I figured it would just be easier to create a folder in My Documents rather than use the install directory (and probably smarter).
TempUserPath = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments Returns the string "C:UsersOwnerDocuments" but that folder is actually named "My Documents" (i.e., is "C:UsersOwnerMy Documents" in the Finder). When I try to create a new folder called "Documents" in the Owner directory, Windows asks if I want to merge its contents with the My Documents folder. If I say yes, I am left with only the My Documents folder and none named "Documents".Thus when I attempt to read or write a file to the TempUserPath location, I get an "access denied" error. This happens even after I manually change the name of the folder from "My Documents" to "Documents".
I'm just trying to move my folder from one path to another path. The coding seems like it has moved it but the folder is not appearing in my destination path?
Imports System.ServiceProcess Imports System.IO Public Class fswService
[Code].....
2 problems: first, intellisense error saying: 'fswService' is a type and cannot be used as an expression. second, I can not figure out a way to pass on to the service the path of the folder to watch (which is stored at My.Settings.userPath).
I use the followoing code to import an xlsx file into an Access 2007 table. It works fine when I enter the exact file name. However, part of the file name is a date which will change every week. The file location does not change, just the date in the file name.[code]I've tried using a wildcard but I get a Run-time error 3011.Db engine could not find the object. Make sure the object exists.
I've been asked to get the page counts for documents stored as tif files. What I have now is looping through our third party software to open them and then get the page count. I can't stop the image from flashing and it is very slow. Does anyone know of a way to loop through them quickly and can the page counts (one image can have many documents)?
I have saved documents into my SQL Server 2005 database and they have been converted to bytes. My web page is made with VB.NET in Visual Studio 2008 with ASP.NET. The following is exactly what I need to achieve;
1. Allow user select document with a button
2. Select the document from the SQL Server table
3. Allow the user to download this document.
The error I am getting is that Category is set as Byte and it can't be passed through GetDocument because filePath is a String. I think that I am pulling the file path from the database wrong
[Dim Category As Byte() = NothingDim fs As FileStreamDim br As BinaryReaderDim document As Byte()Dim documentFilePath As String Protected Sub ImageButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.ImageClickEventArgs) Handles ImageButton1.Click myConnection = New SqlConnection("server=ORLA-PCSQLEXPRESS;database=Edpac;
I am creating a program for my company. My goal is to create a database that manages all the documents that we have and the training progress of all the employees as well as to do some Computer Based Assessments that prints the results etc. I have watched allot of the videos posted on this website but was hoping that someone could help me with videos that explain how to play a sound when a button is pressed - How to open up a pdf form from a button or label - How to open a existing OFFICE documents like word and excel. this would help me allot - Also advice in doing a report that can be printed from the answers on the test.
I have a requirement for a form where user can add a list of 'documents'. These could be word, excel, images etc... pretty much anything. They want a form where they use the openfiledialog to locate the document and then want the list of documents stored on a database.
However, when they view this form they want a preview of all of the listed documents and the ability to print them all. I was considering a datagrid view with image cells but how would I show a word document in there? Or, should I insist that they convert all documents to PDF's?
If I have a file path like "C:My DocumentsImagesImage1.png", how can I get the parent folder name of the "Image1.png" file? In this case, "Images", but that's just a sample. I've looked through System.IO.Path and there doesn't seem to be anything there.
This is a messy way of updating my application but I don't have much other way I can think of doing it. Here is the background information:
My app does not use ClickOnce or any deployment other than just copy/paste the files into a zip and uploading on the web My app has a "update check" form which checks for strings on my website to compare current version with a newer version
Now basically, it downloads correctly. Nothing about that is the problem. I use My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile to do so.
Currently, the user downloads and has to REPLACE the file. Its not an update, its just an "updated" application. I'm not fully sure how I will go about proceding this later, but currently I'm trying to do the first part of my pseudocode below. Which is to get the application's path so that I can "replace" it later programmatically so that it performs a "auto-update".
Pseudocode of what I am trying to accomplish (anything in bold is what I'm trying to accomplish that I haven't already done):
Get folder path of application Download the app update with My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile download Extract this updated folder and replace the contents with the current folder path of the application.
I have the download aspect complete. As far as this question goes, how do I get the folder and replace the contents? As far as extraction though, what are your thoughts on the best method to extract and then replace?
