Incorrect Data Is Received From Serial Port?

Nov 10, 2010

I am current using VS2008 to write a little app to transmit hex data via the serial port to the target device and receive back data from it and display that on a text box.

The problem i am facing is receiving "read" data "hex" back from the serial port and displaying it. I am able to send data to the target system without any problem. For example, if i send this command "&H10, &H0, &H1, &H7E, &HFF, &H49" The LEDs on the system blink 10 times and it works every time. If i send this command "&H10, &H0, &H0, &HFF, &HD" i should get 5E back and I use Realterm to verify the communication and it works great. When i use my VB app it fails, instead of getting back 5E.I get "&H35, &H45, &HD, &HA" on the buffer

Private Sub sendbutton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles sendbutton.Click
Dim send_Buffer() As Byte = {&H10, &H0, &H0, &HFF, &HD}

VS 2008 Serial Data - Make Sure The Correct Data Is Received?

Jun 28, 2009

I am using Visual Basic express to create a serial interface to a multi-room audio controller. I have started by creating a form that can connect to the controller and I can receive data from the Controller and display Zone status, volume etc in corresponding texts box thaks to help from Stanav and Tassa in my previous thread.

My next problem is to do with receiving lots of data from the serial port and my application getting out of sync. This is mainly caused by turning the volum control as each time it is turned a little bit the controller sends out the new status of the Zone being effected

eg
****Turning Volume knob on Zone 1***
Status returned from Controller:
#Z01PWRON,SRC3,VOL05<CR>

Upgrading VB6 Raster Map To VB 2008?

Dec 15, 2009

a while ago I developed an interface that shows raster maps under VB 6.0 (see, for example, slide 5 "Forest Stand Development" on [URL]

I would like to rewrite the code in VB 2008 (or download open source code) to transfer everything to VB 2008. But rather than just putting a picture control on a form as I did before under VB6, I would like to learn and adopt some new technology while continuing to use classic Windows form coding. WPF technology (see [URL] is way over my head.

Draw Raster (pixel) Maps With VB?

Oct 17, 2009

Scott Wisniewski wrote an interesting article about drawing maps with VB -[url]...

I wrote a quick question at the end of this blog in which I asked for code updates and raster (pixel) maps two months ago without having heard back.

It seems that his mapping approach deals with polygons rather than rasters (pixels). Does Scott's approach allow to build raster maps?

Does anyone know a similar article that specifically addresses raster maps?

However, even if entry is correct, the error msgbox will appear (x times of how many records there are in file), despite being navigated to the menu. 'Access Denied' Error Received When Trying To Save Documents In Excel

Jul 18, 2012

I'm struggling to think of a reason why I should be getting an 'Access denied' error when trying to save an Excel document opened through a program written in VB 2010 Express. The program is essentially glorified Excel automation. It converts information from hundreds of Excel documents into a few small text files in order to improve operation speed. The software is designed for use by no more than a dozen or so people in the office who are all editing these Excel documents (through the software), and saving changes. They edit a given document by selecting it in a list in the main form, which then changes the document to writeable and opens it for them. A FileSystemWatcher detects changes in the folder containing the Excel documents so that the aforementioned text files can be updated when the user saves the Excel document.

VS 2008 - Password - Received An Error About Frontpage Extensions Not Being Installed

Jul 10, 2009

I've been trying to publish some software for 2 days. At first, I received an error about frontpage extensions not being installed so I installed them, only to screwup the ht.access file on my site and lose my web site for 5 hours.

I had an email this morning from Lunarpages saying they installed the extensions, recoded the ht.access and even tested frontpage on it. SO -- I tried again this morning and still received "the components for the frontpage extensions are not installed". ?

AND --I must be missing something and looked everywhere in VB.NET (options etc) but how in the heck can you publish something directly to your website (I used the wizard and setup all the publish options) and NOT be prompted for your user ID and password? Obviously, VB.NET has it's own ftp program.

Sorting Received Data From Serial?

Apr 7, 2012

I am constantly receiving 2 lines of data via my serial port, example:

GPRMC, 151243.000 , A, 3723.2475, N, 10354.0208,E,1.26, 290.95, 9.0,,,A*67
GPGGA, 151244.000, 0122.4098, N, 10354.0212, E, 1, 04, 2.1, 71.4, M, 4.3, M,,0000*5F

Apart from the starting 5 alphabets which is the message ID, the other numbers are constantly changing every second. I wish to pick out specific values from these GPRMC and GPGGA and constantly update their respective text boxes, how do I go about doing that?

The 4th, 6th & 8th values of the GPRMC message (in this case '3723.2475' 10354.0208' and '1.26')The 10th value of the GPGGA message (in this case that value is '71.4')

Asp.net - Error - Incorrect Syntax Near The Keyword 'IS'

Feb 10, 2012

I've got a GridView. My SelectCommand in the code works if I copy and paste it into SQL Server Management Studio. It executes fine.If I run the page and click Edit for any row I get the error:

"Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'IS'."

I've tried to see what's going on using SQL Server Profiler. Here's what the SelectCommand looks like and what SQL is receiving...

SelectCommand from supplies.ascx
SELECT some stuff FROM here WHERE (this IS NULL) and (that=1) ORDER BY this DESC
SQL Server Profiler reports
SELECT some stuff FROM here (this IS NULL) and (that=1) ORDER BY this DESC

I didn't put any code here because I'm not really sure what would be relevant and didn't want to load up the post with unnecessary lines of code.

<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="fldSupReqID"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"

Close Serial Port After Data Received?

Feb 22, 2009

I have the following code that listens to a serial port and writes the incoming data to a listview control (the serial data are a delimited string taht arrives once per second that I parse into separate listview subitems). I would like to be able to close/disconnect the serial port once a specific value in the incoming string is detected. For example, in this case one of the columns of data in the incoming string represents depth, I would like to close the serial port when the depth falls below a given number. I have tried the code below, but my program crashes on the SerialPort.CLose method.

dim m_strOBS() as string
Private Sub SerialPort_OBS_DataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) _

Communications :: Serialport Data Received Addhandler

Apr 24, 2010

I am writing a small application to see what data I am sending and receiving to my COM port (for a small hardware project based on url..).The problem I want to activate a "Serialread" or "SerialWrite" procedure as soon as data is waiting in the receive or send buffer.I have some basic skills so before I start digging in I would like to get some advice. Can I use a addhandler (I have read something about this on the internet but have to clue how to use it) or something else? Is there a way to check if data is in the buffer ready to be read or write??

I am writing a program to read data from the serial port using the data received event. But, I realised that My data received event run more than 1 time when there is a data received at the com port and this actually makes my reading command reads the wrong data. The correct procedure is whenever I send a "+++" over to my device. It should responses with "OK."message.

Why the DataReceived Event will read more than 1 time?
Below is my coding for your reference.
