I am facing a problem in inserting a datarow in the Ms access Database though visual basic application.The scenario is like this:I have a table named 'IssueReturn' for library management System. The table has these fields:
MemId Char(10)
BookId Char(10)
DateOfIssue DateTime

So I'm developing an application in VB2010. The idea is to perform CRUD operations (more or less) to an Access2003 Database. The database is relational, yet I haven't grasped the best architecture to make an application to interact with it. I tough doing a Business layer with a domain model would work. Controllers for each Use case (which are basically CRUD operations) would create Domain Layer object. Yet I don't know yet how to manage the mapping of the objects to/from the database.

View 17 RepliesI had to add another table into my database and now I need to go back and update a page that allows inserts into more than one table. I didn't write this page, so I'm trying to clean everything up, but there are some parts that I don't really understand. Now I have broken the page and it only inserts into one table. The very first one that I insert into.ProductName: goes into the Product table.Description: goes into the Picklist table as Data.....it also is supposed to generate an insert into the marketing table based on the PicklistID which is an identity column. The marketing table tells the Picklist table that it is looking for a description. [code]
Like I said before, only the insert that goes into the Product table works. Before I added the Picklist table and tried to reconnect everything, this entire page worked. The code was a lot sloppier and didn't have parameters, so that could also be where I messed up since I am still trying to learn how to use them. I have gotten everything to INSERT except for the INSERT to the Marketing table.
I have a FormView where I pull data from one table (MS Access), and then insert it (plus more data) into another table. I'm having issues with the dates.The first table has two date fields: date_submitted and date_updated. In some records, date_updated is blank. This causes me to get a data mismatch error when attempting to insert into the second table.It might be because I'm databinding the date_updated field from the first table into a HiddenField on the FormView. It then takes the value from the HiddenField and attempts to insert it into the second table:

I have a couple of textfields in a Windows form. One of these textfields is allowed to be NULL. When I enter a value for every field, it is all inserted, no problem. When I leave the field (txtGewicht) blank, I can't seem to be able to insert NULL in Access Database.

"Cannot set column 'Gewicht' to NULL, please use DBNull instead"
So I changed 'Nothing' to DBNull.value, but it then tells me that System.DBNull cannot be converted to type Double.
I am using VB.NET 2005. I need to know if I have some data values in a Datatable consisting 4 rows then is it possible to insert all these rows into a Table of a Database using a single INSERT statement?

Is the order the DataAdapter updates the DataRows which RowState are <> Unchanged predictable or not?In other words: is it possible that DataAdapter.Update(DataTable) will result in an exception when the key already exists?

I am a veteran programmer . However , I am new to visual basic 2010 . I am trying to create a database that ould store data within an access file *.mdb .I have created the database which includes multiple tables . moreover i have created app.config file using wizard and my database along with dataset appear in the visual basic 2010 project . moreover when i test the function insert in the dataset the function performs well and the output is correct and i can see the new row added in my access database . however when i try to use the ATLtableadapter.insertquery (ATL is a datatable in my database) function in my form (in view code) the row doesn't get added.
When i first used this function an exception occured was something like first system class exception data.dll something along that lines. . however , when i created a new oledb.oledbconnection and put its connection string as the one in windowsapplication1.my.settings.marketconnectionstring. and used the open comand to open a connection . the message stoppped appearing . however , the insertquery is not adding the row in my database still when i use it in the form.

All the columns are set up the way I want, etc. I am performing a SQL operation at runtime, so I can create SQL statements dynamically rather than creating them with the designer. When I try to fill the existing datatable, I get no results. There is no error, but the data i should be seeing in the DGV is not there. However, if I fill a dataset that is created in code at runtime, and then set table(0) of that dataset as the DGV's datasource, the data displays as it should.

What I want to do is be able to create a summary of the data table above that groups multiple occurrences of a resource and adds up the hours used for that resource, creating a summary that looks like this -
