Load Combobox Items Dynamically On KeyPress?

Oct 4, 2010

I want to create a combobox like winform control in VB.Net that makes suggestions dynamically; exactly as the address bar does in Google Chrome or IE 8/9. Basically on each keypress, get a list of items that match the entered text on a background thread(s) and show these items in the dropdown list as they are (possibly slowly) returned - either from DB queries, web services etc.

I have tried a couple of ideas, changing the AutoComplete list dynamically or binding to a list, which I then update. But I am getting some rather odd and incorrect results even when updating the list directly (on the main thread). I also tried implementing my own textbox control that shows a ListBox control where the dropdown would appear - this seemed a lot more reliable but I cannot get it to draw over the edge of forms etc when shown, as the combobox drop-down does.

Show Form After Load / Place Everything?

Dec 27, 2011

I have a little problem, nothing very serious, but something that anoys me and i cant solve.

I have a VB.NET windows form project, with a main MDI form containing a menu.

I load all forms with:

Private Sub MostrarFormulario(ByRef formulario As Form)
Try
formulario.MdiParent = Me
formulario.BackgroundImage = Me.BackgroundImage
formulario.BackgroundImageLayout = Me.BackgroundImageLayout

[Code]...

When show the form, i can see all combos / grids / objects being placed and feeded. Its a fraction of second (in fast machines). All my objects placing and loading are made in the Activated event.(because some combos data may have been added/deleted and the app can have multiples form oppened at the same time).

Is there a method for loading everything first (not showing) and then display all at the same time?

Load XML Schema Place Data In Elemants And Creat XML File?

Aug 3, 2011

i have been coding for years, but never integrated XML. So I guess I'm a newbie. I have inserted an XSD file in my project, ARequest.xsd. I created a folder in my project called XML just to organize things, so this file ARequest.xsd, is in this folder.

Now I have a form that displays data from a database that has the same fields that are in this XSD file. Can I load the XSD file into my Windows Form, load the elements from the data on the windows form and then create an XML file then send it? If so how? Any code snippets would be helpful. Now I do know how to create the XML file, we'll call it Test as

Worked fine except that it took approx 5 minutes to load. Converted it to a wmv file (cutting it down to 300 MB) and it started playing instantly while it download. Unfortunately there are some computers that will not play it for some reason. It will load and the timer starts up as if the video is playing but there is just a black screen. I ran some tests and determined that it's not a browser issue.

How can I upload a video that instantly plays on all computers?

Select A Particular Value On A Combobox By Looping Through Combobox Items?

Jan 5, 2012

I have a form in my vb.net application used to take the data about the returned stock. The form contains two comboboxes. One, named combobox5, contains invoice numbers and the other, named combobox3, contains party codes. Both the comboboxes are pre_loaded using sqldataadapter.

Now what i want is to change the party code in combobox3 when the invoice number is changed in combobox5. Elaborating it further, When Stock is issued the party code is stored along with the invoice number to keep track of to which party was the stock issued. Now when stock is returned i want to keep track that which party has returned the stock and i want that the party code should be automatically selected when the invoice number is changed and it should be what is stored in the database against that particular invoice number....

I'm using the following code for doing so:

Private Sub ComboBox5_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox5.SelectedIndexChanged
' defines a new connection to the database
Dim con As New SqlConnection("Data Source=TAHA;Initial Catalog=ADT;Integrated Security=True")

VS 2008 Navigating My Code - Flow Can Jump From Place To Place

Mar 11, 2010

Like I imagine everyone, I often have problems navigating my code because the flow can jump from place to place. For example, if my code calls routine1, and I then want to go to routine1's code, I know that I can click in the dropdown menu and it will take me to that sub. But wouldn't it be easier if I could somehow right click on the call to routine way and select something like 'take me there' which would transport me from the function making the call to the code for the function being called? Then it would be easy to hop from place to place.

Load Save Listbox Items?

May 26, 2009

I've got a problem, I'm making a program that gives you the choice to add items to a listbox, these items are text. When the form loads, i need it to load text from a file into a listbox. For every line I need it to add that text to the listbox. My problem is when it loads, there's an extra line, but that's only after I close the form and open it again. The reason it happens when the form unloads is because the listbox items are saved on form unload. Now, I believe the problem is my code to save the items:

Dim Env As String = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.MyDocuments)
For Each item In Form1.TP1.Items
Dim Save As New SaveFileDialog()
