This is probably a stupid question, but how do you make a function which takes a number then does an operation to it again and again until it gets a vlue which it already has seen, when it returns all of its values? I have this function:

To have a function that takes the average (which is calculated by a different function) say for example the average is 6, now the function is to take the number 6 and get the variance from six to another number lets say its 12 so this will return a calculation of 50% variance. now here comes the issue, i have it calculating the variance how ever lets say that there is a score that is 0, how can i make it calculate the variance without taking count for that 0? i guess you can say i need it to "skip" if its a 0.
View 5 RepliesI'm supposed to make an app where computer generates a random number using a function and then the user has to guess the number. If they get it right, they see a picture.... If they get it wrong the loop keeps going until ten guesses are up.. I'm running into quite a few problems...
1. I don't know how to tell if the photo will show up if the number is right because right now I have it set to false in the form, so it dosen't show up but in my loop I included the code that SHOULD allow it to show up if both numbers are the same.... Not sure if this is correct...
2. I have a textbox that is supposed to keep track of the number of guesses but the message automatically becomes Game Over and the guesses go up to 11 as soon as I click the Are You Right Button?
3. When I try to debug, my app freezes and I don't know why...

I am writing a program that takes a SSN into a number field.Issue is when a SSN is entered with a leading 0. Ex. 012-34-5678 The zero is cut off and turns it into an 8 byte field, which is not good for SSN obviously.What can I do to prevent this from happening?

in my program i have a timer, and every 5 sec (for example) i send a string by serial.i have to read every key pressed between each 5 sec and send a number that tells me what i am sending.what I've done is to send 1 as long as up key is pressed and send 8 as long as left key is pressed and send 9 as long as both are pressed.when i run my program, the first time i press up and left at the same time and i keep them pressed, the serial send me the first time 9 and then ignores the up key and send me 8 always.and sometimes send me 9 and after that always send me 1 and ignores the left key..the point is that vb ignores the first button i press even if i keep pressing it..what should i do to make vb.net takes two arrows keys at the same time?

An in-line table valued function in SSMS takes about 6 seconds to return 11088 records. The same function in VB .Net 4.0 using TableAdapters.InputTableAdapter.GetData (Created with data set designer) takes about 15 minutes complete.Both are executed from the same workstation.Why does this discrepancy exist?

I'm trying to make a program that takes my old records from Access and moves them to MySQL. Its supposed to take records from 3 different tables in Access to 3 different tables in MySQL. The first table is "Orders" and it sorts the ones to pull to the dataset, taxDS, by "Where Status = 'Waiting Payment' OR 'Cancelled'". Then the second table pulls its info(this is where i'm having trouble) by the "Control_Number" in the "Orders" table, so basically if the control number isnt already in the dataset its not going to pull the data into the new table "FNF Taxes".

I've recently started programming for Visual Basic Express - 2008, and I'm currently trying to make a program which takes a bunch of inputs (Name, Age, x2 score results) and then turns this into an output at the end which varies depending on the score results.
I've stumbled upon a small hinderance, which is that the very final stage which has a Console.Writeline does not appear after testing the program. So, everything else functions fine, but as soon as it gets past the "Console.WriteLine("All pupils have been calculated, the results are...")" command the program closes itself.I'm not looking for much help, just wondering exactly what is causing this to happen. I also realise that my coding is sub-par and is coded in a slightly odd fashion, but I'd rather just get this one to work and use the mistakes from this one to correct my future work.

I am using the following code to add some value to a date:

The value numinterval is the number of days passed since 1/1/1601 (this is how date is counted for things like 'last logon time', 'last bad password' in Active directory). I do some calculation and get that numinterval value in days.. But since I want it to return the time more accurately, I tried first multiplying numinterval by 1400 for number of minutes.. And I changed the interval as dateinterval.minute... That worked fine!
But, when I tried again by multiplying it further by 60, to get the time accurately in seconds and changed the interval to dateinterval.second it throws the following exception:
Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow
I changed the type of numinterval into long, but the same problem..
I am calling the function below from an Excel spreadsheet and the conversion from hex to decimal using the VAL function in the "manufacturer" variable below is coming back with a negative value. The VBA edition is 6.5.

When large number of records in Database, it throws error "Operation has been canceled by the user" in vb.net. I want to retrieve records from DB2 and display the records in DataGridView in VB.net. If number of records is less it works fine. But if the database tabe has large number of records it throws error "Operation has been canceled by the user". [code]

View 12 RepliesI have a datagrid with a lot of column, but only a few group of it can be edited by user.On a CellEndEdit event i update automatically the database with the new value when the user modify one cell and then I must recharge the dataset of the dataview.If I modify a cell and then use tab or enter to move to the next one everithing is ok, but if I change a cell and then mouse_click on another one i get thi error when i recharge the dataset:
