Is it possible to make a vb.net application faster Through code like using characters that the Computer already understands Like coding in certain areas through y x (math) etc. Will it be More faster since the compiler don't have to really do much work But its still must be VB.NET

i have a program in VB.Net 2005 and my problem is that it runs very slow. I mean, it takes some time for the Form to be displayed even if it is not doing anything in the Form_Load event. Do all programs in VB.NET 2005 act like that? my programs in VB6 would display the Form instantly.

The issue is that the listbox can have more than one of the same item. For instance, LstBox_Order.items(0) could be the same at any position in the listbox. This code works, but it is slow if there is like 10 or more items added.

View 12 RepliesI have a function that I use quite a bit that I wrote more than 2 years ago. It works fine but recently I saw how it can use up a good deal of time under certain condition. Here's some code that uses the function SelectValue The function works so that if you had N which you plug into the function rising continuously while SelectLimit was set to 255 then SelectValue would match N until N reached 256. SelectValue would start to descend to 0 until it reached 0 and then it would again ascend to 255 and the process would repeat. So SelectValue(255, 255) would return 255 and SelectValue(256, 255) would return 254. SelectValue(257, 255) would return 253.

The function works exactly as I want it to but if one of you knows a way to write this so that it will process faster then you can let me know. I get a result for processing time of 6.11 seconds on my computer for the above code.

View 39 RepliesTo do some testing with MPIR, GMP, the .Net Bigint module and other math libraries I've recently written a small program which allows me to create random sequences of numbers with a certain amount of precision: Always this amount of digits in front and behind the comma, no starting/ending zeroes. While it might not be the most elegant of code, it really blew my mind when I found out my application was running up to 10 times faster with Mono under Ubuntu 10.10.While the code is not elegant and in Basic, it was developed by me in about an hour's work and it serves the purpose: To generate dependable huge datasets consisting solely of preconfigured numbers before or after the comma. To get a general idea the UI's posted here:[code]Eliminating IO by not writing to IO but just to a List instead Eliminating an "if" path which checks if the random before/after float character is checked.Disabled progress reporting in general which causes the backgroundworker to not report any progress.Play around with the amount of symbols, theres very little difference between just getting 1 random character or getting 15 per record.I'm at a loss to what causes my program to run so slow under Windows/.Net compared to Ubuntu/Mono. I'm only a "half programmer", which means: I'm a Bussiness and ICT student who mainly focusses on human ICT, and the Microsoft Platforms certainly have lead on that, however such a huge performance hit compared to Linux for this soul and simple program really gives me a cold chill when it comes to my favourite platform.

is it possible to make one application send a task to another application and recieve the result from that secondary app?i made a text editor program and i added a scan feature and i made another app that has ocr capabilities.The scanner ability is in my text editor program, the ocr program doesnt scan you have to input an image into it and it will give text result a few seconds later.the prob is alot of times the ocr code uses sooo much memory and crashes when its incorporated with my text editor, but individually each application works fine and doesnt take too much memory. Memory wont be even an issue if the ocr program is standalone so that when it is done decoding image the application can be made to exit. now here is the question, how do i make my text editor send the image to the ocr program and how do i make my ocr program send the text back to my text editor? is it possible? i mean the only way i know off is creating temp files in a certain folder and having a timer on each program that keeps waiting for temp files. That just seems like pretty lame coding to me i was wondering if there's a better way?

This works fine.What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)

I have been trying to reference Application.ThreadException in my application to make an addhandler, but I also am using imports growl.connector which has a growl.connector.application method. When I create my addhandler:AddHandler Application.ThreadException, AddressOf ThreadExceptionHandler
And I get "ThreadExecption is not an event of 'growl.connector.application'"

Just listing and multicolumn listing.I am also a performance bug and I have written realtime monitors for monitoring cpu activity in real-time and normally rum them starting at bootime. Lately I have found that the listview throws away time. In a tight loop, the list view does not take all cpu time available and the listview is relatively slow.
Does anyone know of a control like the list views only it's faster? Multi-colored and multi-columned are musts.
