I am trying to make a program that consists of two list boxes. The first list box contains the names of several employees of a given company, and the second is to display the name, department, ID number, and phone number of the person when the name is double clicked in the first list box. The file I have been given to carry this out with reads as follows. i have to write a program for my VB class that consists of a resistance checker program. I've searched like a madman to help me through this and I have found nothing >. The program consists of 2 combo boxes, the first one is the nominal resistance drop down list of the numbers :100, 150, 220, 330, 470, 680, 820 and 1000. The second list is of the tolerance numbers; +/- 0.4%, +/-0.6% and +/-0.8%. Now what i want to do is select a number from the first combo box and select the tolerance level of the second combo box and i input the resistor of said value into the text box. when i click the check resistor button it should display a message saying if the resistor is in or out of tolerance. For now I have the form all laid out and the values inputted into both combo boxes and i can go to run the program i am able to select said values. Now my problem is trying to get the right code so that i can check the resistors value.
I have to write an application that consists of mainly one main form, but several different things I wanna display. Pretty standard I guess. So there is a menu, some controls, and the main stuff below (ranging form graphs, tables, dropdown boxes, print preview, etc). I would like to use it like one would use frames in html, design an object that is limited to a box or panel that I define. The literature I have does not give me a clear idea of how to do this (yet). The most obvious seem to be the use of MDI, open a predefined form with no borders, maximize it before showing and remove all minimize/maximize options. But that does not work so well. The form inside the MDI parent does not fit the size that is given for it when it is loaded. e.g.

So my main question is: Is MDI the way to go here at all or are there better/easyer ways to achieve this? If MDI is the way to go, how do I sucessfully restrict a child form inside another object, without giving the user any opportunity to resize (i noticed that I have minnimize/maximize/close buttons, even if I disable them on the child forms themselves)
I'm just learning VB with the 2008 express edition.I'm trying to create a program that uses 3 list boxes.The first contains a list of products.After a search is preformed the second list box displays the products found.This is pretty simple, basic array stuff.My problem is moving items from the second list box into a third list box to purchase the product.I think I need to change the index numbers of the stuff I move into list box 3 because when I preform calculations with the stuff in list box 3, it seems to answer like its using the index numbers in list box1.So, how do you change the index numbers when you change list boxes?
I'm trying to code a program that averages a grade from a list box, but the numbers in the second list box could change, so not sure how to code that. It should list the letter grade and the average, then if they don't enter a grade, should tell you to enter a grade first before hitting the average button.

Once logged on - there is a search page which contains a combo box and list box. I am trying to set specific values for the combo box and list boxes.For example - the combo box on the website is titled: cbxDate and contains the following values: Today, Yesterday, This Week, This Month.

This program is supposed to allow the user to check items in a checked list box. If the item is checked, it goes into the Completed List Box on the right. The program then adds the unchecked items to the Pending list box on the left. I keep getting placement values (e.g. O,1,2) instead of the strings (e.g. "Key Returned") in the list box results (see photo attached)

I have made a program that makes and saves every possibility of characters under 7 characters (so far), and it takes about 10 mins to make one million possibilities... this is about 1800 possibilities per second (differering on different CPU's and RAM's)How can i make it more efficient, because i have made some basic calculations, and if i wanted 7 digits of every possible character combination, it will take about 7 billion possibilities... If i had 10 mins per million, that is a long time..

Hi, I'm working on a program that reads text entered into a textbox and creates a list of items by separating entries by commas. Everything is working fine, except, because I am using an array to store the items in the list, I have a limited number of entries. This is only a problem because, as it is written currently, each comma counts as an individual entry. Therefore, users can enter ",,," for example, and it would use up 3 places in the array.
I'm looking for a way to check to make sure there is text after the comma before adding an entry. I've attempted to use the .substring command to check the character after, which works until it gets to the last character. Because there is no character after that, it will give an error.

I am trying to create a WPF browser application that allows you to search and display recipes. The combo box presents choices, the Ingredients display in one list box and the "cooking" instructions appear in the other list box. What's happening is the first time you make a selection from the combobox nothing displays, and this could be happening because the first line of code under Selectionchanged clears the List Boxes however, it should be populating those list boxes with content, shouldn't it? Anyway, as you make other selections List boxes 1 & 2 get populated but they do not match what displays in the Combo box, i.e. if you select "Easy Taco Dip" any random recipe might appear in List Boxes 1 & 2.

If I'm trying to output to a listbox, what is the easiest way I can enter a string and then a variable on the same line? I'm trying to use listbox1.Items.Add(...). Obviously outputting a string is no problem and outputting a variable is no problem, but I want to add a string and then a variable after the string. For instance:
