so in a program I'm working on in VB.NET I'm trying to make it so I can take in a list of strings (each on a different line). For each line I want to take in the line, and break it up into three parts. The first part goes from the beginning of the string to the first colon in the string, the second part goes from the first colon to the at symbol, and the last part goes from the at symbol to the end of the string.
For example, I'd take in a line of the series of lines: hello:world@yay
I'd want to break it into three separate strings of "hello", "world", and "yay".
Is there a way to detect a Chinese character in a string which is build like this:
dim test as string = "letters 中國的"
Now I want to substring only the Chinese characters. But my code is database driven, so I can't substring it, because the length is always different. So is there a way I can split the string, from the moment I detect a Chinese character?
I'm trying to replace all the carriage return characters in a string obtained from a multi line text box in a Windows Form with the string ", <BR>" so that when I use the string in some HTML it displays correctly.
Function Blah(ByVal strInput As String) As String Dim rexCR As Object rexCR = CreateObject("VBScript.RegExp")
I am trying to make a five digit string, it needs to be 5 digits long basically it cant be less then 10000 and more then 99999, but when I run the code, all the label says is "this is a five digit code" from the time I start putting in numbers to even if I got a whole lot of numbers are in it, it remands the same label, what could be wrong or am I doing this wrong
Dim myDouble As String Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged If myDouble >= 10000 Or myDouble <= 99999 Then lblmessage.Text = "this is a five digit code" Else lblmessage.Text = "Not a 5 digit code, please renter a new one" End If End Sub
For the three character sting, I have ON:Motor is online and running OFF:Motor is online, but not running MNT:Motor is undergoing maintenance and cleaning NA:Motor is not available I dont know how to start this, do I make a specific thing saying that these are the only ones you can use and if you entered something else then a text box saying incorrect or something like that?
Ok I have a question about connection string in vb.net. Im using the string [Code] but here I am specifying the serverName by its name, now if I deploy my application and send it to another person to use it I see that server name is changing according to the name of the computer. Is there any way where by I can make my application to detect itself the Name of the server present in that computer and use it in connection string?
I can't get my sql query using regex to work in vb.net. If I write
Dim localConnection As New MySqlConnection = ConnectionNew(DBName) Dim da as MysqlDataAdapter Dim ds as new DataSet Dim rows as long
[code]....
It returns null, even though there is a cell containing "ABC". When I run it directly on the database, it returns the row correctly. If I remove the [A-Z], it works fine in both circumstances.
Sometimes when backing up an sql file using phpmyadmin (database stuff), for some reason it forgets to double up a single quote, resulting in an error when loading the sql file back into the database when required. A line in such an sql file looks like this;[code]As shown in the example, phpmyadmin did double up the quote in "you're" as it should, but it forgot to double up the one after "27", resulting in an error.As you can see it's like this (*value*, *'value'*, (and so on) but beforehand I can;
A) Never know how many values are in such a string B) Can't simply split the values by "," because the value itself can hold a comma aswel.
It would be easy if every value was like this; *'value'* because then I could split by " ', ' " but that's not the case, and I also never know what location the values not enclosed in single quotes are. I also can't simply double up all single quotes in the entire string because then it will also double up the ones that are enclosing the values, resulting in an error during upload again. So yeah, what I need to get done is single out all the values with regex ($1, $2 etc.) and then string.replace single quotes in those values but *only* if said single quote is not preceeded or followed by another single quote, else it would become a tripple quote resulting in an error again.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If TextBox1.Text.Contains(" ") Then
[Code].....
Now what code should I use when I click the button, if TextBox1 contains 2 SPACE characters, it will split into 3 parts, but if it contains only one SPACE, it'll split into 2 parts ?
I'd like to be able to match a specific sequence of characters, starting with a particular substring and ending with a particular substring. My positive lookahead regex works if there is only one instance to match on a line, but not if there should be multiple matches on a line. I understand this is because (.+) captures up everything until the last positive lookahead expression is found. It'd be nice if it would capture everything until the first expression is found.
Here is my regex attempt:
@@FOO[(.*)(?=~~)~~(.*)(?=]@@)]@@
Sample input:
@@FOO[abc~~hi]@@ @@FOO[def~~hey]@@
Desired output: 2 matches, with 2 matching groups each (abc, hi) and (def, hey).
Actual output: 1 match with 2 groups (abc~~hi]@@ @@FOO[def, hey)
For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
I am writing a hangman type game and I am displaying the word to the user in a label as all *'s, but I cannot figure out how to have just one of the *'s changed in the label to the correct letter when the user inputs the correct letter into the text box and clicks the check letter button.Everything else in the program works perfectly, except for this part.[code]When I use the .Replace it changes all of the *'s to the correct selected letter.
I am using a simple regular expression (in C#) to find a whole word within a block of text.
The word may appear at the beginning, end or in the middle of a the text or sentence with in the text.
The expression I have been using word has been working fine however if the word included a special character (that has been escaped) it no longer works. The boundary is essential so that we do not pick up words such as vb.net as a match for .net.[code]...
Anybody knows how to detect that the user has pressed on the ESC key when in a FileSave or FileOpen Dialog, in VB.Net ?I have added KeyPreview to the form on which the FileDialog rests, but the key press is not seen and the FileDialog returns the file name I had given it as a suggestion to the user upon calling the FileDialog.

I'm writing a program and it's got a textbox for the user to enter values. Since the textbox text property should only be a "number", my program need to detect invalid charaters like "*/&()$" and tell the user to only enter a number. Does anyone have an idea how to do that?
the coding is to 'Get input string and put its character into List, and replace the character with other.'but having problem putting each character into List and also replacing it,[code]
Given an input string like the following:I, Need, Some, Coffee, Before, I, "Fall, Asleep" I need to split this into parts like so:
I Need Some
[code]...
Splitting on the comma character alone is easy enough, but how can I handle the quotationmarks? Regular expressions is not on my strong side, and I have been googling for quite a bit without any good results.
I am stuck in a problem with an application. I have following lines of text :1) hi {my|your|his} name is {stacker|monster|overflow}2) hi {my|your|his} job can be to {stacker|monster|overflow}3) hi {my|your|his} car {stacker|monster|overflow}What I want :on the click of a button select and replace those words which do not have { or } just before or after the word i.e. in line 1 or 3 we do not have any such word. In line 2 we have "can" and "be".
My Regex works, except if the email address entered has an underscore character (_) in it.
Because of my lack of experience with regular expressions, I'm not sure where in my pattern I'm supposed to add the offending character to allow it:
Dim pattern As String = "^[-a-zAZ0-9][-.a-zA-Z0-9]*@[-.a-zA-Z0-0]+(.[-.a-zA-Z0-0+)*." & _ "(com|edu|info|gov|int|mil|net|org|biz|name|museum|coop|aero|pro|tv|[a-zA-Z]{2})$"
He said he fixed it by adding the _ after the numeric check.
I see the A-Z0-9, but I'm not sure which is the numeric check...
I've been working with the substring command and after coding up all the things I needed it to do, I saw a post on here where the "For Each" statement was used basically to do the same thing.Lets say we just want to take a string apart one character at a time and add each character to a label. Which would be more efficient?I made a cheap example to show ...
Code: ABinary = "0110 1100 0001 1011" For x = 0 To Len(ABinary) - 1
Below is the code i am using for user input which works fine apart from one thing that i can not work out how to do.I want to detect if a user had inputed a character in the wrong place. The correct input is:
D:Folder name
The incorrect input is:
D:Folder name
How would i detect the extra '' at the end?
Private Sub OK_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OK.Click Select Case Doc.Text Case "" MsgBox("Invalid Path")
Using VB.NET, Is there a way to do this RegEx call in 1 step... instead of 2-3? I'm trying to find the word "bingo", or whatever is between the START and END words, but then also inside the inner FISH and CAKES words. My final results should be just "bingo".
Dim s1 As String = "START (random string) FISH bingo CAKES (random string) END"
I'm here again asking stupid questions. I don't have really get this but i ask again but i try explain all better. Here is a website link and i want catch string from here. Look page's source code and find first what starts <td> someword </td> I use this code for catch word from page. Visual Basic Express 2008
Almost each letter of my mother tongue (Arabic) has two or more forms to be written with, due to its position (At the beginning, middle or end of a word) and what are the two letters before and after it, however, I've been trying to figure why when I type something in a textbox and use the AscW method to get the character code, it returns a code for the same character but not of the same form, which means:
If I type a word starting with the letter above, the letter would be in the initial form (its Unicode is &HFED3 = 65235) , but when I use the AscW to get the code of the first character it returns the code (&H641 = 1601) of the same letter in actually none of the previous forms but apparently in the isolated form (&HFED1 = 65233).I've also tried to convert the default encoding to the Unicode's but had no accepted result and no solution through reading the two Unicode bytes (which had to be [211, 254]).
P.S. I tried something else:
TextBox1.Text = ChrW(&HFED3)
Msgbox(AscW(TextBox1.Text(0)))
to check if the problem is the AscW method, but it worked just fine, I have another idea running through my mind but I'm still not sure about it .So, is there any way to detect the actual form of a Unicode character?
