Detect For A Specific Character In A String?
Jul 11, 2011so in a program I'm working on in VB.NET I'm trying to make it so I can take in a list of strings (each on a different line). For each line I want to take in the line, and break it up into three parts. The first part goes from the beginning of the string to the first colon in the string, the second part goes from the first colon to the at symbol, and the last part goes from the at symbol to the end of the string.
For example, I'd take in a line of the series of lines: hello:world@yay
I'd want to break it into three separate strings of "hello", "world", and "yay".
How would I do such a thing in VB.NET?

Nov 13, 2009how I could make an application in visual basic 2008/vb2005 that detects when a new file is downloaded. One of my old time friends created the same app with visual basic 2008. It notifys you when your attempting to download a file. For e.g: I try to download "aim6.exe"
it will show a message: "C:UsersMATTST~1AppDataLocalTempsXx0Fd31.exe.part is attempting to be downloaded"
I think it uses a file system watcher.

this displays in a text box the received data from a serial port. And it works like a charm but the data received has custom start and end of line characters. A line begins with chr(&H2) and ends with chr(&H3). What i want is on the text box those characters to be hidden and the chr(&H3) to start a new line.

Dec 2, 2009I am trying to write a function for determining the data type of columns in a delimited file.However my function is not detecting a newline and exiting the loop after the end of the first line.* 'del_2' is equal to a new line character, i have tested this using a small bit of code

Once my code runs the command, I'm retrieving the results through a buffer string, 32000 bytes long.Inevitably, this string will have Oracle line breaks (chr(10) and chr(13)) in it that I'd like to replace with Environment.NewLine so I can display the output in a standard Winforms textbox.Here is the code I've been using - I don't recall exactly where I got the Oracle command right now, but if I find it, I'll add the link.

Easy Way To Detect Internet Connectivity?
Oct 28, 2009I saw another forum which discussed how to detect whether a LAN was connected, but I need to know whether my Internet connection from my ISP is up or not (I'm writing a program for day trading, so knowing if my internet connection is down is critical). I know I can simply open a browser in VB and browse to a site and see if it doesn't come back "page not found", but that involves a fair amount of overhead, and if the internet is down, it often takes many seconds to a minute to come back with "page not found". Is there some simple command that will quickly tell me that my internet connection is working? I'm using VB in VS 2008, and currently using XP although I plan to convert to Windows 7 in the next couple months.

Detect The Form Of A Letter "Character"?
Apr 12, 2011Almost each letter of my mother tongue (Arabic) has two or more forms to be written with, due to its position (At the beginning, middle or end of a word) and what are the two letters before and after it, however, I've been trying to figure why when I type something in a textbox and use the AscW method to get the character code, it returns a code for the same character but not of the same form, which means:
If I type a word starting with the letter above, the letter would be in the initial form (its Unicode is &HFED3 = 65235) , but when I use the AscW to get the code of the first character it returns the code (&H641 = 1601) of the same letter in actually none of the previous forms but apparently in the isolated form (&HFED1 = 65233).I've also tried to convert the default encoding to the Unicode's but had no accepted result and no solution through reading the two Unicode bytes (which had to be [211, 254]).
P.S. I tried something else:
TextBox1.Text = ChrW(&HFED3)
Msgbox(AscW(TextBox1.Text(0)))
to check if the problem is the AscW method, but it worked just fine, I have another idea running through my mind but I'm still not sure about it .So, is there any way to detect the actual form of a Unicode character?
