Make A Two Dimensional Database On Vb 2010?
Apr 26, 2011
Im preparing a program for my teacher friends using vb 2010 express. They keep records about their students. I prepared a database that contains a table named "Mystudents". It has columns like "studentId , Name, Surname, etc.." . My problem starts here. Each student attends lots of lessons during a year. I must keep "which lessons they attended", "when they attended", "which topic done in the lessons" for each students. for example
Id: 104
Name : Jason
Surname : Black
Class : 10A
[Code]....
i mean i have a list of data for each record of databese.

i want to make a vb.net program that reads from a text file a movie, with the help of a Open Dialog (called openFD in my program) (we don't know how many movie we've got), the actors, the release date, the country, and the rating.
The text file look like this:
Movie1;Actor,Actor,Actor1;Date1;Country1;Rating1
Movie1;Actor,Actor,Actor1;Date2;Country2;Rating2
...
First question: How can I make a 2-dimensional array? line(0,0) - Movie1, ... , line (1,5) - Rating2. Here Is my try, but it's not good:
Dim line As ArrayList = New ArrayList()
Dim itm As ArrayList = New ArrayList()
Dim i As Integer = 0
[code]....
And here is the code for the Delete Button. It deletes a movie from the listbox, but the details of the deleted movie remains for the next one, I must delete the details for the deleted movie, too.
ListBox1.Items.Remove(ListBox1.SelectedItem.ToString)

In my football sim I am trying to save all the info from a game. There are two defined dimensions to this array. The first is the number of weeks(17 always) and then the number of games per week (Number of teams /2). The plays themselves are unknown in quantity so I decided to use List of to store them. With this type of multi-dimensional array that is also a List of I am having trouble with the Get and Set properties. I have a member variable declared as:

I think I need a two dimensional byte array I currently have something like this:
Dim MbyteData(196608) As Byte
' Open the file that is to be loaded into a byte array
Dim oFile As System.IO.FileInfo
oFile = New System.IO.FileInfo(sFilePath)
[code]....
I now need to load several files at once (say four) so I need four arrays of 196608 bytes and I want to reference them by a number - 0 to 3, assuming the array is zero based. If I use Dim MbyteData(196608, 3) as byte or Dim MbyteData(3, 196608) as byte the syntax seems to be correct but I hit an error ("Number of indices is less than the number of dimensions of the indexed array") when I try to add the extra dimension to the stream read with something like oFileStream.Read(MbyteData(index), 0, MiByteCount).

I have been puzzling over this for about 2 days now but to no avail. All i am trying to do is retrieve all the "<a href = "myLink.php">MyLink</a>"
I can do it via the webbrowser with getElementsByTagName but i just cant for the life of me work out how i split the returned html into either an indexed array or just use inStr or Split function to split this into seperate value, But if i have a csv file with 20 links i dont want to have to load every page into a webbrowser control just to use getElementsByTagName.
Now it all works fine and retrieves the source code from the page. I have only extracted part of the code which is relevant to the retrieving html to try to shorten this post.

How do I prompt the user to input elements in a two dimensional array? And how do I then save the output?I've figured out how write and print a program where the program provides the elements (see short version below), but I can't work out how to get the user to input the elements instead.
Solfa(0, 0) = 11
Solfa(0, 1) = 12
Solfa(1, 0) = 21

Consider the following code:
Dim arr1 As New List(Of Double)
Dim arr2 As New List(Of Object)
Dim timeStart As DateTime = Now
For x As Integer = 0 To 1000000
[code]....
It involves 2 lists. The first one is 1-dimensional, the second one is 2-dimensional.The first routine (which operates on the first list) completes in about .015 seconds. The second routine (which operates on the second list), however, takes almost 10 seconds. The only difference is that the second list is 2-dimensional.Is there a way to speed this up or am I doing something wrong? I have a program that requires several 2-dimensional arrays and it's running extremely slow right now. How can I speed it up so I get the same feedback that I'd get if the lists were 1-dimensional?

I have a string containing many lines. Each line has many values separated by commas. Basically it's in CSV format. The number of lines is variable but the number of columns is always 7.
I can get each line into a one dimensional array using Split(Var, Chr(10)).
I'd like to make it a two dimensional array where the second dimension contains each comma separated value.
I've got
Dim VarArray1() As String = Split(VarText, Chr(10))
Dim VaryArray2(0 To VarArray1.Length - 1, 0 To 6) As String
Is there a quick way to get the contents of VarArray1 into VarArray2. I know I can do the following.
For Counter = 0 to VarArray1.Length - 1
Dim line as string = VarArray1(Counter)
Dim Values() as string = Split(line, ",")
For Counter2 = 0 to 6
VarArray2(Counter,Counter2) = Values(Counter2)
Next Counter2
Next Counter
But is there a quicker way to do it that doesn't require passing through each element of VarArray1 and then passing through each element of Values.
The eventual goal in all of this will be to find the highest value in the 3rd column (the arrays are strings at this point because not all columns are numeric). To do that once I get the values into VarArray2 I suspect I have to pass through each element VarArray2, i.e. VarArray2(Counter,2). Unless I can copy the whole third column into a SortedList?

The program has a DATABANK of words with the phonetic spellings and matches the word, then translates to phonetics. The problem is that new words keep appearing inside the language. I'm trying to use LINQ to SQL in Visual Basic 2010 Express.
It allows me to create the .dbml file, but in order to drag items from the Database Explorer window to the design surface, I first have to get my database listed in the Database Explorer!(this is a remote SQL Server database - not a local .mdf)
I already have a good, working connection string to the remote SQL Server database, but that doesn't help me when I'm trying to generate the DBML at design time.
Can anyone tell me how to get my remote SQL Server database identified in the Database Explorere window? When I try the "Add Connection", I am limited to Access, SQL Server Compact, or SQL Server Database File. If I try to enter the IP address & port of my DB Host I get a 'database file does not exist' message. Doesn't seem to want to let me point to a remote DB server...

it's just for a program registration. i would store all of the registration codes in the access database, then export it to XML, then upload it to my web host. I would then somehow connect it to my Visual Basics login form (Which I have already made). If this can't be done, having them register through the form and having all the allowed codes on the internet (So i can easily edit them)!
