i'm trying to make a simple email sender and the problem is that during the sending process my application freezes, therefore my progress bar also freezes so is there anyway i can try to make application not to freeze?

i have 2 list boxes.. Qty and Cost both of these are populated from a sql database. The code is suppose to read through the listboxes and multiple the Cost by the Qty and then replace the Cost with the new result. The Cost listbox is populated with the cost of one item. I'm having some wierd problems with my Looping. I'm was using a thread to start a looping routine to sample the keyboard for pressed keys. The loop worked fine when I made a call to it from the thread in my form load routine. However when I just made a call to the samplekeys routine without using the thread my application will freeze and it won't load.I'm making the call in the form load routine. Ive been working recently on a chat. Ive been using FTP to comunicate through both forms but it need to constantly download the new data and make the application freeze. Even with a Backgroundworker. So my question is : is there a way to keep a constant connection between the form and the host? And not LAN ,I mean that doesnt need to be on the same router.

I'm having a really weird problem with my current project in Visual Basic 2005.To make a long story short, I have an EventHandler subroutine (Clock1_tick) which triggers on the Elapsed event of a Timer (Clock1). Some, but not all, of the code within the subroutine executes correctly. Some of it doesn't execute at all, even though the debugger shows that each line of code is being read.
The overall details of the program aren't really important, but within the program I have a VB class file which can be instanced via the "New" keyword and contains a series of functions, subroutines, and properties... a typical class file. The class file is for managing sound channels..The frmMain includes a status bar with a label to display the program's current status. It also includes a public sub which recieves a string and sets the text of the status bar:

i seem to be having issues with my simple count down project. The count down work how I want it, there is also a pic of a rocket that move up when the count down button (Button4 - the form was set up in class as a quick example, so there was no need to name the buttons) is pressed. The problem is that the count down "10....1...Blast Off" shows after the rocket has moved up, I want the countdown text to show, then the rocket to move.The countdown is outputted to a ListBox.Here is my code thus far: (I have re-worked is a bit, starting to look messy)

View 2 RepliesIn my application, I have a call for an update to a table on my database. I know that it is executing because I get a 1 returned when checking the number of rows affected but when I look on the DB the value is not updated - I have refreshed and still no update. Here is the code, taskgrp_template is type bit and taskgrp_id is type integer. Id is also set to the correct value, as the result of my tracepoint - results listed below code.

When you click a button on my form, it opens a folder dialog box & gets the selected path, then changes a label's text to state that it's starting to process the directory then it goes ahead & opens a new streamwriter & continues on into my other sub for listing directories..roblem is the label isn't changing before it does it's processing, I figure that is because it's processing to fast to actually display the text. Even if processing the directory takes a minute or more the label won't ever change, which should have happened before it started processing the directory.

My problem relates to executing an application located on a network share and getting various security exceptions in trying to do so. By far the greatest number of replies to this sort of problem relate to creating a new Code Group under Runtime Security Policy in the .NET Framework (v2 in this case) Configuration tool. However try as I might, and I've spent hours, trying various things with the config tool (and with caspol), I just cannot get my app to work.Still fails on things like reading command-line parameters and displaying a web page in a WebBrowser control or firing up a browser using Process.Start. In fact I've regressed to creating a VB6 version for this particular task as time is off the essence. Which works fine! As I mentioned lots of people have posted on this topic and not s few of them seem not to have resolved their issues either. So I was wondering if anyway had come up with a definitive solution for this problem which, in my case, seems to affect XP machines only? Seems to work OK on Vista, 7, 2003 Server, etc - although I haven't run exhaustive tests in these environments.

View 12 RepliesI've been trying to use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(15)" as the delay code but if freeze the form. I used this "Location.Refresh()" where location is the name of the form, but it didn't give me what I need. This code is going to work on a ProgressBar while typing and the value of the progress bar change while typing. The progress bar jumps to the new value and I want it to move. So I thought about puting it in a "For ... Loop" but the whole form freezes.
