I'm trying to log an object in log4net using a custom renderer. My configuration file has the following line:
<renderer renderingClass="LogLibrary.Log4NetObjRenderers.PdaLogObjRenderer" renderedClass="LogLibrary.TranferObjects.PdaLogObj" />
But I get a TypeLoadException when loading the configuration file, and log4net internal debugging gives this detail:
log4net:ERROR OptionConverter: Could not instantiate class [LogLibrary.Log4NetObjRenderers.PdaLogObjRenderer].
System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type

I was just wondering why there isn't a trace level in log4Net. This level seems to be missing and I sometimes feel the need to use it, for example to output what events are being executed in an application. This feature is a part of log4J. I know I can create a custom level like is talked about here but I don't want to put time and effort in something I feel should be part of the library itself. Do you know about a log4net extension library which implements this or why this wasn't a part of the port to .net ?

I have used log4net in winforms before. First time using with a wpf console app. The console shows up and the console appender works exactly as in the winforms app. However in winforms I never had to give the full path to the log4net xml file. It is located in the same place where all the cs files are. (the default place where VS 2010 puts all its source files. So
XmlConfigurator.ConfigureAndWatch(new System.IO.FileInfo("log4config.xml"));
works in a winforms app's Program.cs->main() but for the wpf version where I have my own Startup class with my own Main() (instead of the autogenerated and hidden main()) I have to change the line to look like this
XmlConfigurator.ConfigureAndWatch(new System.IO.FileInfo(@"c:fullpathlog4config.xml"));
This took me quite a while to nail down so I thought it may be worthwhile to figure why this is so. Anyone know ? I am using log4net ver 1.2.10.0. The log4net dll and xml both have copy to local = true in winforms and wpf.

i am doing a VB.NET windows application. In that i am using Log4Net for logging details. I am new to using Log4Net. The problem i am facing is i want to create the logfiles with same name each day. means today if a log file is created with name debug.log, tomorrow also it should create a new log file with same name with out any change in the previous file name.
Code:
<appender name="RSLogFileAppenderDebug" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender">
<file value="C:Log4NetExamplesdebug.log" />
<appendToFile value="true" />[code]....
How can i do this ?? do i need to make any change in the appender config ?

I want to be able to specify multiple smtp server host addresses and implement a logic whereby if email using one smtp server fails, it tries to send using the next smtp server address. Is it possible using log4net. Can we override some functions of log4net and implement our own logic in it to send emails?

I'm using VS.NET 2003 and VB.NET. I have placed my log4net.config file in the same folder as the source code and I want to automatically copy the log4net.config file to the bin folder just as the app.config file is copied to bin. Is there an automatic way to do this?

I am trying to execute a VB .net console application called Application1 that I created using Visual Studio 2008 with .net framework 3.5. When I run it under the windows scheduler or from a command prompt it works fine. When I try to run it under a purchased job scheduler, I get a message stating that directory APPLIC~1.config is missing. What properties does system.configuration use when it tries to find an application's .config file? Can these be set when my application starts?
Note: I was able to use ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "" & My.Application.Info.AssemblyName & ".exe") to get around this issue but would like a cleaner solution. I do not want to do this each time I want to retrieve an appSetting entry.

After I ran a disk-cleanup (in my case AVG PC-TuneUp), the loading of my VB.net project gave error on a missing file.Changing the build-configuration (DEBUG->RELEASE->DEBUG) would recreate the file and all is OK. But I have basic configuration-info for the build, maybe in more complex cases some important details could be lost when the file gets deleted.I would think an information as critical as that, would be placed in the project folder, or be part of one of the many files that make up the project, but not in the temp-folder.

I have just written an application in visual studio 2005, and would like to publish it for use on another computer. When I try to run the publisher, it fails and reports that it is missing an XML file that is located in the bin folder. I have checked the bin folder and the file is there. I am not sure what I am doing wrong? Has anyone else seen this type of error before?
Also, I should point out that while I was creating this app, I would some times copy the project to my desk top, and then change the name of the project folder. For example: myProgramV0 would be come myProgramV1. Then I would copy this back into where I normally keep my VB projects. I do not know if this had an effect on the program or not.

Current S/W Access 2010 and Windows 7 (all up to date) also using VS2008 When I was using Access 2003 & 2007 the following VB.Net code line worked fine:
dbs.Execute("SELECT * INTO TrialBOYTbl FROM [Text;FMT=CSVDelimited;HDR=Yes;DATABASE=" & myPath & ";].[TrialBOYDtl#csv];")
But when I use Access 2010 the first data record is missing in every file that I upload - there are no other errors.The SCHEMA.INI file is:
[TrialBOYDtl.csv]
ColNameHeader = True
Format=CSVDelimited
MaxScanRows = 25
[code]...
NOTE: This code line is executed in VB.Net (Interop) in conjunction with Access Automation. Therefore, I believe that I must use DAO
as that is how MS Access is based.My guess is "[Text;FMT=CSVDelimited;HDR=Yes;DATABASE=" looks like an ADO (not DAO???) Extended Properties specification which worked fine until Access 2010.

I've been developing an export program which generate a csv file.
Column_A, Column_B, Column_C
00014, Sample, test
Now upon this data is viewed in csv the trailing zero from column_A is gone. it becomes 14.I revise the writing of data from Column_A which if the start of it is zero i insert a single quote. Upon viewing it in csv i got a '00014 which single quote is visible. how can i remove this single quote? which i expected to view it 00014 only in csv file.

I have 2 console apps projects in the same directory but different projects. There is some common code in the App_Code directory and a common app.config which gets build into seperate .exe.config files.One module (VScanDemonStarter) starts up and writes to one logger with its own appender going to a seperate file. It uses an process.start() to execute the other module (VScanDemon) in another command prompt hidden window.When I run VScanDemon by itself it puts entries into its log file. When I run VScanDemonStarter it puts entries into its (different) log file, the VScanDemon log file gets created, but no entries. I can see it is executing because some files get moved from one directory to another. Just no Log entries.

I'm going through All-In-One Code Framework Coding Standards document and one of the recommendations is to add a file header comment at the start of every human-created code file. This is the first time I've seen such a recommendation and to me it's just an unnecessary and ugly clutter but I'm wondering if someone could explain why M$ recommends this?

I have a dbf file. I saved it as a csv file and can open it in excel.
But i cannot open it in VB.net using programming and OLEDB connection.
If i copy all these content, paste it in a new excel sheet and then save it as csv file. My VB.net program reads it absolutely fine.
Any idea what might be wrong in saving the file directly from dbf to csv using excel?

I'm running Visual Studio 2010 on a terminal server, and have been, with relatively few problems, for some time. This morning I fired up my PC and over the UK's long weekend, the following issue seems to have developed.I've got a bunch of projects (but not all of my projects, and not all of the projects in a given solution) complaining that a particular file (which does not exist on the computer) cannot be opened, and so those projects will not compile anymore. Here's the error:
Error 31 Unable to open module file'C:Users[username]AppDataLocalTemp2.NETFramework,Version=v4.0.AssemblyAttributes.vb':
System Error &H80070003&
I could simply copy the file into that directory and be done with it, I'm pretty sure that will work,EDIT: Okay, now things have gotten to a whole new level of weird. I've rebooted the server, I get the same error message, only now the file it is asking for exists and can be opened in Visual Studio with no problems. another part of the IDE still insists that it's unable to open the module file.
EDIT 2: Can't delete the file because it claims to be open in another program, but I've logged off and logged on again, and there shouldn't be anything accessing it.
EDIT 3: Because there's a wall of comments below his answer, I'll mention here that Jared's suggestion to delete the SUO file for the solutions having the problem (not files specifically to do with any of the problem projects, strangely) was what solved this, eventually.

I am trying to add text to an already created file on vb.net. When I run the program there are no errors and it writes everything to my liking, but currently when it goes to save, it makes me create an entirely new text file with any name I choose to give it. What I need to do is for it to automatically get added onto the end of an already created text file without deleting any other part of the file, which we will call "data.txt." Here is the code I already have
Imports System.IO
Public Class Frmadd
Const FILE_NAME As String = "data.txt"
