Move The File From One App In Root/ProgramFiles To Another App In Program Files?
Jan 16, 2010
I need do move the file from one App in root/ProgramFiles to another app in program files. It happens thta in Vista/Win7 I can nod do this... And wehn i try to do this im getting frllowin exception: "Access to the path is denied"
this brings me to the question: How can I write move files to the directoris that are other then MyDocuments? For me this is critical as I need to move custom library to existing app if it is not found there, otherwise my app will not work :
I am trying to launch a third-party program from my own. I have done a quick search in Program Files and Program Files (x86), and I just realized that the path returned by getenv("ProgramFiles") actually depends on whether I am running in x64 or Win32.How can I search (both in c++ and c# or VB.NET) both Program Files folders, using environment variables and not hard-coded names - since regardless of the version of my program running on the user machine, he might have the other one installed in a different version ?
My code now: in c++:
fs::path root_directory = fs::path(getenv("ProgramFiles")); // and then I change to root_directory = fs::path(getenv("ProgramFiles(x86)"));
Im making a "offline viewer" which uses saved webpages. What do i put to make the program look in the root directory, and so make the program more portable. E.G. if the program is stored in C:Viewer it will look for the webpage under C:ViewerWebpagesI know that in some location formats you can have ...Webpages however i cant seem to find anything like this that works in vb
how can i either copy/move/rename & delete a file in program files directory? [c ode]i already have the form which grabs the updated file and it save it to temp directory ready for copying, just stuck here as of the access denied.
I am trying to create a program that downloads audio files via FTP, converts the audio to mp2 if necessary and copies them to a certain directory for consumption by our automation system. (I am a radio station engineer.)I am using the open source converter FFMpeg to convert audio files to mp2. This is a command line exectuted program. Here is the command line that I use to execute the external program with the input and output audio files at the root level: cmd.exe /k ""C:New Folderffmpeg.exe" -i "C:Test.mp3" -y "C:Test.mp2"" This command line works correctly whether I am using Shell() or System.Diagnostics.Process (Process) to execute the external program. I am going the Process route so I can know when the conversion has finished. Now, I really don't want to use the root directory for this but when I go below root with this line using Process the external program will not execute:[code]Can anyone tell me why that line will not work with Process though it works as expected with Shell()? I can't figure out how to stop the external program to get some feedback as to what its problem is.
I have a pair of XML files that each have the same root element. I want to merge them into one XML file that has a new root element and which uses the former root element as child nodes.[code]I want to merge these two XML files into one XML file, and do so within a new root element, such as the following example:[code]
I Have a treeView Already populated (in vb.net) and would Like to move all the nodes or all the Tree for this matter, to a Root node that Contains it allI Have this:
I'm trying to create a zip file though vb.net and move files into it using the built in windows zip utlity. so far I can create the zip, but not able to move any files to it.Here's my code:

I have created deployment package for VB.Net appolication and it runs fine. When setup is rnning, I want deployment package to move a file from bin folder to other specific folder. how can I move this file to specific folder.
I am trying to retrieve file details from files in the Program Files folder. I receive an error while trying to retrieve file details.
Dim sFileName As String = ("%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe") Dim Info As FileVersionInfo Info = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(sFileName) Msgbox(Info.ProductName.ToString())
I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?
I need to ASP.net Page that links automatically to files(pdf) stored in a folder in the same root of the web application..so the script will read the contents of the page , if the file is available in the folder it should create a link to it automatically and if not it stays static text.
I am trying to deploy my first application using vb. I have tried to use the one click but here is my problem.
I have a group of data files, some *.txt and one access data base (*.dbf) that I need to have placed in a folder (that is created) located at c:monitor.

I would also like to have a condition that if the files exist that they are not overwritten with an updated installation.
I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.
I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003 Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers 003 returns Bulbasaur Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI? -Databases would load internally? -I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?
I have and application in VB 2005 that runs on a 32-bit os right now. One of teh first things it does is call a an API from Novell GroupWise like such, which allows ir tun on either OS but I can't email from the program like I can on 32-bit. Is tehre anyway under the 64-bit section to use the api which on the 64-bit box i assume is in (x86) since GroupWise client installs as a 32 bit app.'determine 32-bit or 64-bit OS
If IntPtr.Size = 8 Then '64 bit machine ElseIf IntPtr.Size = 4 Then
I am using the following code to retrieve information about a folder on my computer.
My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists(Environment.GetFolderPath(ProgramFiles)My problem is that the computer I am using has two operating systems installed. When running on the D: drive, the code returns the C: path. How can I get it to return the D: path?
Ok so i have a program that pulls up all the video files in a video folder. I need a code that will move one of the files in the listbox to a recycle bin i made. But i dont want to replace any of the files in the recycle bin i just want a code to move one file out of one folder and into another. So if there is a code for this then great.
I am writing a backup program that zips files. Using some sample code I have the following that creates a zip file. Problem is it does not get any subdirectories or files. Where am i going wrong?
Dim azFileNames() As String = Directory.GetFiles(SourceFolder) Dim objCrc32 As New Crc32() Dim zipStream As ZipOutputStream
[CODE]...
Alternativley, there is another component to the zipping dll that I could probably bypass the above altogether. It is: FZ.CreateZip(DestFile, SourceFolder, True, "", "") Where DestFile is (Output stream as system.io.stream). I'm trying to read all the files, directories, sub dir and files, etc from a specific location, let's say 'My Documents' into Destfile in which the FZ.CreateZip zips the file. FZ is FastZip which is from icsharpcode.net. They have c# examples, but that's greek to me. I'm trying to just learn VB!
Looking for an idea of where the best place to keep files for a program. I use them frequently and they interact with the program directly. I want to place them in a place where they won't be easy to find if someone is just cruising thru the directories. Any ideas?
My loging page in root/Account/Login.aspx page when I click on contact us i need to redirect to root/contactus.aspx page. I used Response.Redirect("~/contactus.aspx") in Master page (Site.Master) Protected Sub lbContactUs_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles lbContactUs.Click
I am trying to find the folder that my file is in so I can use it else where. I am using an openfiledialog. So, if the path of the file is "C: est est.text". I want to be able to get "c: est" without the file

I'm using VB 2010 and I'm trying to populate a combobox with a name followed by a square root, but all that I was able to obtain is a name followed by an image of a triangle with a question mark at the center. I've tried to change the font but without result.
I know, looping through is fast enough. But the search program "Everything" can index my entire C: drive in about 15 seconds. Does it read the MFT or something? Can I do this easily enough with VB.NET? Or at all?
