i would like to do FILE I/O without a dialogue. the file always be the same and the location will always be the same, therefore i dont need a dialogue. i would like to know how can i do this? what is the code to open, write, and save to a file without the dialogue.

im trying to create a text file with some details that ive put into some text boxes.I got on screen
3 textboxes
2 buttons (which i would like to get their text from)and then 1 button to save details and exit.I got the coding place but i dont want a a dialogue box to come up i just want to save the stuf to a set folder location, will need to read the textfile to the same area, incase the user wants to change the data. Struggling to understand the my stream section in my books.

I keep getting an error saying "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application." Then the next paragraph says "The process cannot access the file 'E:Copy of Release+Fontsob.txt' because it is being used by another process."
Is there a better way of finding the path of a file that was opened with the open file dialogue? This is what I did. It works, but it seems like there should be a way to get the path through one of the open dialogue options.

I have a fairly straight forward peice of code that just tries to set the default saved directory for a standard .net save dialogue to a specific folder. If that folder doesn't exist, it sets it to the desktop. This works fine for everyone but one user who is getting the following error: Could not find special directory 'Desktop' How is that even possible?

View 4 RepliesI need to find a way to automate the process when a user uploads a microsoft project file to a web application I already have created. The process will need to basically use the save as from project to save into a .csv file so I can use this to import the data to an SQL database (this is needed for custom reporting we already have set up using SQL). I need to automate this process because I will be receiving tons of project files, and if the process is automated the users will then be able to instantly see results.
Basically, is there any way to create or run an automated process that will save these project files as .csv files? Even if the csv files are not formatted correctly, I can find a way around that, just need to first get them into .csv files. The only way I could think of this is to follow the instructions listed below, but I would then need to automate a process to open the file and hit save so this works... [URL]

I have an Excel file with utilizes macros to allow a user to enter names of people and then double click on cells to enter ratings via radio buttons. When I open a blank file and enable the macros, I can add users, rate their skills using the radio buttons, etc. with no issue. I then SaveAs the file and continue working on it. once I Save and CLOSE the file, then go to re-open it, the trouble begins. Keep in mind, there is no alteration to the macros directly. Just entering data and using the form as intended. Here's what happens.
I reopen the file.I enter in the name of a person on one line. I go to the first box - double click on it.It is supposed to pop up a dialog box which allows me to choose a rating via radio button (as I had been doing before I closed the file). Instead, in that first column of ratings, it instead gives me the following error:
Runtime error '1004'Unable to set the LineStyle property of the Border class
When I hit "debug" this is the code it points to:

I need to open an excel file from vb.net and then search it for specific data. I then need to take those data and insert them into text boxes on a form that i have created. This is all controlled by a button click. I already have some code that will open a file dialog box and let me navigate to the correct file, but I am having trouble with the search portion. Ok ive managed to figure our most of my problems, and get help , from u nice people. i have 88 buttons and 1 is visible by default the rest are invisible so if you click the first button you get a open dialogue to select a program for my app called winhome after that i need the second button to become visible, and so on,any quicker way to do this instead of manually copying/pasting if statements?

I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

I have used the following code too save a notepad file; [Code] The code saves files but only in the 'Application.StartupPath' folder, the save dialogue starts in the correct place a quizzes folder inside the debug folder but files can't be saved here or in folders inside it, even though you can browse them in the dialogue. However, there is one problem with it... whenever I open a file and change stuff, then close it without saving the changes, the events still fire. I am opening excel workbooks in code, then use xlsWB.Close(SaveChanges:=False) to close them, and the event still fires, where the file isn't really changed so it should not fire.
