I am building VB.NET application that takes data from text files that are exported from a legacy DOS program. These are written to a datatable and displayed in a datagridview. Right now my code simply loops through the datagridview and inserts the data into the database (SQL Server). There is a requirement now that the client number must be checked before the insert to see if it exists in the database. If it does, then the value of one field (tax rate) is checked against the value of the field in the datagridview. If there is a difference, then the rate is to be updated in the database and the data that was in the database is to be written to a history table for audit purposes. If the client number is not there, then we are to do the insert (which is already written). I want to know what is the most elegant and efficient solution for this problem.
I need to compare what is in the database table with what is in the datagridview, update the history table for records that exist, and then insert new records.
How could I add array values and populate the results in a specified text box?Then repeat for each line after. Then get a final total.

I'm using a Datagridview to fetch information from an XML. Each row contains a separate entry. I can read from and append to the XML database, but I want to:
A) Be able to save any edits made in the database to an XML file.
B) Store and fetch a collection of possible variables to populate a list box.
A should be relatively easy, but I don't know if B is. The XML database will contain hex values that can be written to predefined offsets, and each could be any number of bytes long. So one entry in the XML/Datagridview database could read "00,0A,0B,0C", where commas separate available write values, with each possible value being another line in a listbox. When a value is picked from the listbox it will be written to the XML.
I don't want to have to make <ListBoxValue1>, <ListBoxValue1> in the XML for each possible entry, so I'm hoping there's a more efficient way.
If you're interested in what I'm making, it's a hex editor that loads descriptions of offsets from an XML, then loads the values for each offset from a file. Here's a screenshot.
I am trying to populat a treeview with nodes that are the values of a column in a datatable. I have managed to get the correct number of nodes but the text is not displayed next to the nodes, there is just a 3 shape but the other way round and with square corners shown.
The code is below. I would like to have these parent nodes populated on the form load and then (i think this is what i have read) to be quicker i would like to then load the childnodes once a parent node has been selected, as i don't want to load the whole database on form load or when the form is refreshed.

It's 7 cause it's one for each day, my problem is to get customerid when I select one of the customers from any of the listboxes to my textbox. I have the looking up the record and getting the field I want returned working fine, but I just cannot find any way to have it populate a textbox. Another small wrench in the works is that it's a web form. I think I'd be ok with a Windows form.The reason I need this is, the user will not be sure when this record has been added and it would work fine if they wanted to click a button until it is actually added to the table, retrieved and the number needed populates the textbox. However, the folks who gave me the spec prefer the user not to have to keep clicking a button for an undetermined amount of time. So, I've been trying to use a timer. View 8 RepliesI'm using a pattern of buttons verticle, & horizonal, to produce a 2 dimensional matrix (6 deep, 25 wide .) The sequence is repeating, but offset from horizonal line to line. the values are 1 thru 12. there are corresponding files in the "My.resources." file carrying names related to the buttons. If the "my. Resources" filename is say.., "1,3,4,6,8,9,11,12 " & the buttons pushed have produduced the string "1","4","6" then the prestated file carries all these values, and therefore should be selected. All integers of the textbox list must be present in a "my.resources" file to show the file. There will be multiple files in the resource file that will fit. (My ultimate intention is to show all files that fit, somehow. I'll have to, eventually. I'm still writing this, and changing it constantly. )the question is, "How do I get the computer to link the textbox integers to the resources files?
