Edit XML In Datagridview / Populate Listbox With XML Defined Values

May 15, 2011

I'm using a Datagridview to fetch information from an XML. Each row contains a separate entry. I can read from and append to the XML database, but I want to:

A) Be able to save any edits made in the database to an XML file.

B) Store and fetch a collection of possible variables to populate a list box.

A should be relatively easy, but I don't know if B is. The XML database will contain hex values that can be written to predefined offsets, and each could be any number of bytes long. So one entry in the XML/Datagridview database could read "00,0A,0B,0C", where commas separate available write values, with each possible value being another line in a listbox. When a value is picked from the listbox it will be written to the XML.

I don't want to have to make <ListBoxValue1>, <ListBoxValue1> in the XML for each possible entry, so I'm hoping there's a more efficient way.

If you're interested in what I'm making, it's a hex editor that loads descriptions of offsets from an XML, then loads the values for each offset from a file. Here's a screenshot.

How To Edit Line Values Within ListBox

Jan 16, 2012

I am loading a listbox with lines from a txt file. Now I would like to be able to edit values within that listbox by going there with the mouse cursor and type a new value..

E.g. the listbox displays:
7226218; Hemlock; 22.55; 4
0822722; Pine, Sugar; 11.55; 7

After editing it looks like:
7226218; Hemlock; 22.55; 2
0822722; Pine, Sugar; 11.55; 7

After pressing an "accept button" those values should then be written back to the txt file.

Programmatically Edit My Datagridview Cell Values?

Mar 15, 2012

I programmatically edit my datagridview cell values. I use the vertical scrollbar to find the row I want to edit, select the row then click an edit button that takes me to another form where changes to the record are made. I then click a button which saves the changes and returns me to the datagridview form. No problems here.

When I return to the grid, the records are displayed with the first record at the top of the grid. That is, the vertical scroll bar has repositioned itself to the very top.

Is it possible for the datagridview to "remember" the position of the vertical scroll bar so that when I am returned to the grid, the rows displayed are the same as when I left?

User Defined Array To Populate A Table?

Jun 16, 2011

I am very new to programming so sorry for the simple question, but I am at a lose. What the program needs to do is take a user defined starting and ending range, and then build a table based on that range. Inside the table each record will need to have two check boxes.

So for example the user enters in a starting of ABC01 and ending ABC03 and clicks the button the table is populated like this;

C# - Populate ComboBox Edit Field With ValueMember But Show DisplayMember In The List?

Oct 12, 2011

I have an editable ComboBox with a validation on the Text property to make sure manually entered info is valid.EDIT: All I want to do is populate the .Text property with the ValueMember of a selection rather than the DisplayMember I also have the .Items populated with valid entries having the DisplayMember and ValueMember set.My DisplayMember is a caption along with the data, and the ValueMember is the data itself.So Items might be:

(DisplayMember, ValueMember)
"Foo - 1ab2" , "1ab2"
"Bar - 3cd4" , "3cd4"

I had a validation on the text which can also validate manual user input like "5ef6" The problem I'm having is that if the user selects an item from the combobox it populates the text field with the DisplayMember property (ex: "Foo - 1ab2") which will fail validation.I have tried to manually set the .Text property with the SelectedValue or the SelectedItem.Value on each of the three relevant combobox events to no avail.I would like that the .Text of the ComboBox get populated with the .ValueMember of the item when selected rather than the .DisplayMember

EDIT: I cannot validate by trying to extrapolate the value from the caption. I send the Text off to a service to be validated.

void FillMyCombo
{
KeyValuePair<string, string> listValue1 = new KeyValuePair<string, string>("Foo - 1ab2" , "1ab2")
KeyValuePair<string, string> listValue2 = new KeyValuePair<string, string>("Bar - 3cd4" , "3cd4")

[code].....

The user can manually enter something like "5ef6" which will pass validation.But when they select an item from the list, rather than manually entering it, the .Text property gets filled with the caption and not the value ... so it will contain "Foo - 1ab2" and that will fail validation. I cannot change the validation method to "infer" the value from the caption. I have no control over that service. All I'm after is the displayed value EDIT: Say a user selects "Foo - 1ab2" from the dropdown list, I want the text in the box to say "1ab2" EDIT: I have also tried to set the .Text property in code but I can't seem to make it work in any of the ComboBox events. how to programmaticly set the .Text property (and make it commit!) on a selection event they will also answer this question.

Long Variables Defined As Hex Values?

Sep 12, 2009

I have a VS 2008 C# application that I'm converting to VB 2008.

This statement in C# works as I expected:
IPAddress IPAddr = new IPAddress(0xFFFFFF0A);
IPAddr has a value of 10.255.255.255.

However, in VB this fails:

Dim IPAddr As New IPAddress(&HFFFFFF0A)

with invalid argument (the parameter of IPAddress should have type Long).This also fails:

Dim Addr as Long=&HFFFFFF0A
Dim IPAddr As New IPAddress(Addr)[code]....

does not produce a value of 4294967050, but -246. It appears to have defined a .net type of Int32, not Int64.How do I declare an Int64 variable in VB using a hex constant?

How To Edit ArrayList That Is Already Placed In ListBox

How to put an arraylist inside a listbox but that's already solved. [URL]. There is all my code, so I need to be able to edit the selected customer, clicking on customer>change from the Main GUI. Then the CustomerFrame GUI should open, and all the texboxes should show the information that is in the listbox. There I need to be able to edit the customer and save it again.

I know this is the Code to display the item selected from ListBox in a TextBox
Private Sub ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object,ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
TextBox1.Text = ListBox1.SelectedItem
End Sub

But that's not all I need to do, the index of the listbox is divided into all the items of the arraylist. There is the complicated part. How to divide each item of the arraylist into individual textboxes?

How To Populate ListBox From Database

Mar 27, 2009

I've given up on my harder stuff and have simplified it to something else. There are no errors that pop up now but the list box doesn't populate! I took the code from a book and there's a data adapter, data connection, and data set on the form already (they're not named in this code though, since the book didn't say to). When the program opens, the list box has a line of text in it and the list box doesn't fill with the right items.

Private Sub EditStock_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Try
Dim dsitemlist As New DataSet
Dim itemlistadapter As New OleDbDataAdapter _
("SELECT ItemName FROM Stock", ConnectString)

And here's what shows in the box.

How To Populate ListBox With Query

Apr 13, 2011

I come from Access and I am developing now my first windows form app in visual basic 2010 based on a Access database *.mdb. The thing is i have an access db with 5 tables. I have created the forms, connected to the database, all is working great. Parent- child relations are working, datagrids and comboboxes populate the right way, buttons are working.

But now I want to populate listbox, and combox from tables with queries. Like in access I would like, for example to populate two different listboxes bound to the same table with different queries, so that the listboxes give different results, based on different variables or textboxes.

But I don't know how to attack the problem: the query works against the tableadapter, so the info it gives back is always the same. I have tried to duplicate the tableadapter of the table i want to query, writing different sql queries in both, but it does not seem to work. I don't know in what direction I should ivestigate: LINQ, sql queriess, coded queries, filtering the listbox...

How To Populate ListView With Variable Values

Jun 8, 2011

Let's say I have 50 cars and I created 6 attributes for each of the 50 cars (therefore 300 total variables and values for those 300 variables). These attributes are created and valued based upon the following structure:

Car1Name = "Dark Red Car"
Car1Color = "Dark Red"
Car1DoorCount = 4
Car1Cost = 10000
Car1Appeal = 10
Car1BoughtStatus = False

Car2Name = "Bright Red Car"
Car2Color = "Bright Red"
Car2DoorCount = 4
Car2Cost = 11000
Car2Appeal = 8
Car2BoughtStatus = True
and 48 others of similar structure/syntax

How do I take a a module with these variables and values and populate them into a listview within a form such as Form1 and ListView1 without continuously going into listview's UI and manually entering the data? The goal is to show the USER a list of 50 cars, their color, door count, cost, appeal, and purchase status.
