Print Preview without opening Excel application?
View 6 RepliesI am converting several VBA projects to Windows form applications. The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:
{"Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorksheetClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Worksheet'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{000208D8-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))."}
My company is currently using a Linux/Powerterm program that exports reports via email on a daily basis. I have a add-in program installed on outlook to automatically save the report to a folder on the server. The file that is exported appears to be an XLS 97-2003 Worksheet, but I confirmed from the original programmer that this file is not a true Excel file, I believe it is a unicode file, but it can be opened by Excel. I want to link these files to an Access database within my form, but Access does not recognize this file format.I attempted to create several programs in Studio to convert the file to an XLSX file, but on each attempt I receive an error the file is an in unrecognizable format which is killing me at the moment. I even made attempts to dump the data to an dgv but it still wont be accepted.

when the program tries to opens an excel file, it always throws me an error "Office has detected a problem with this file. Editing may hard your computer" and my program crushes.......The problem appears on the SECOND line, on DIM wb...blahblah.. i went to the office and unclicked the "protected view" checkboxes.. but it still throws me those errors. my guess is that the office i have in the computer is not the same as the one that my program uses to open excel files (i mean, i loaded/imported some excel.dll files in the program so i guess that will be the one) But how do i make the program not care if the excel file is "potentially dangerous"?

I have this program that uses OLEDB connection to open the excel file, and imports it's data. Then I use mysql connection to inserts all this data. Now my question is, is it possible that I can use mysql connection in opening the excel file, or only OLEDB connection is the most possible way to open it?

I would like to be able to have my users open an Excel file and include their add-ins they have installed and usually show up when Excel normally starts. Using this code, Excel opens with no add-ins visible:
vb.net Dim excel As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application
Dim wb As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook
Try excel = New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application
wb = excel.Workbooks.Open(filelocation & "checks.xls")
excel.Visible = True

Is there a property to allow add-ins when opening an Excel file?

I need to open an excel file from vb.net and then search it for specific data. I then need to take those data and insert them into text boxes on a form that i have created. This is all controlled by a button click. I already have some code that will open a file dialog box and let me navigate to the correct file, but I am having trouble with the search portion. I have tried the Find function but I am not sure of the proper syntax. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and Excel 2003.

I have created a picturebox in a form that I want to click on and then it would send me to a excel file that I already have created. I don't know if it is even possible. Do I need to use a button instead?, or am I just way off all together.
View 2 RepliesI have an Excel file with utilizes macros to allow a user to enter names of people and then double click on cells to enter ratings via radio buttons. When I open a blank file and enable the macros, I can add users, rate their skills using the radio buttons, etc. with no issue. I then SaveAs the file and continue working on it. once I Save and CLOSE the file, then go to re-open it, the trouble begins. Keep in mind, there is no alteration to the macros directly. Just entering data and using the form as intended. Here's what happens.
I reopen the file.I enter in the name of a person on one line. I go to the first box - double click on it.It is supposed to pop up a dialog box which allows me to choose a rating via radio button (as I had been doing before I closed the file). Instead, in that first column of ratings, it instead gives me the following error:
Runtime error '1004'Unable to set the LineStyle property of the Border class
When I hit "debug" this is the code it points to:
If ActiveCell.Column = leftb Then Range(Cells(ActiveCell.Row, leftb), Cells(ActiveCell.Row, rightb + 1)).Borders(xlEdgeTop).LineStyle = xlContinuous I have no idea why this would not work when I re-open the file!
note that when I go to click on the subsequent cells (there are 8 cells in which you provide ratings, moving across the columns with each cell) - the 2nd through 8th cells function fine. The dialog box pops up, the rating can be selected. it's just the FIRST cell that gives the issue What would possibly be the cause of this? We need users of this form to be able to save, close, and re-open it if needed.

I'm trying to upgrade an Excel VBA workbook to a VSTO Excel Add-in in VB.NET using VS 2010. In the original (i.e.- VBA) version I have a modeless UserForm (called frmMain) that floats on top and is visible at all times while the user is still within the Excel application, but is not visible if the user moves to another window outside of Excel.
For example, within Excel the user can click on any worksheet tab, select any cell, etc. and the UserForm is still visible. This is exactly how I'd like it. The problem is, that in the new VSTO add-in, I can not get the Windows form to mimic this same behavior. I use frmMain.Show() to show the form as a modeless form, but the moment the user clicks an Excel worksheet (i.e.- activates a worksheet) the form becomes hidden behind the worksheet.

How to convert a number from an Excel text in an Excel Form
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to upgrade a VB6 app to VB 2008. I have read the article in the tutors corner about automating Excel from VB but I cannot get it to work. Heres what I have done:
1) set a reference to the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library
2) Added "Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel" to the top of the module
3) in a routine I have added: Dim X As New Excel.Application Here's where I get an error: Error 75 'Application' is ambiguous in the namespace 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'.
I use the following code snippet
Dim exlapp As New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application
Dim xlWorkBook_new As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook
Dim strOriginal As String
strOriginal = Server.MapPath(Request.ApplicationPath & "/Attachments/") & "abc.xls"
xlWorkBook_new = exlapp.Workbooks.Open(strOriginal)
The code hangs in the last line. It works fine in the development environment. i deployed in windows server 2000 ,where I get this issue. the browser goes half way and throws the below exception after some time

I have set the identity impersonate to true in web config. This should be mostly an access rights issue.I have even provided access rights for the "everyone " user in the excel file and as well for the interop component. Please post ur valuable comments.
I am using asp.net oledb to export information to excel file. I encounter problems when the information to export becomes too big, in this case the code I have given below, the excel file generated becomes an empty spreadsheet.If I changed the loop to 1123 for insertion of the rows. The generated excel file is fine, 1125 rows, and 4 columns shown.A test program in windows form is also working fine regardless of how many rows.[code]I couldn't find a solution to my problem as well. What I did eventually was to run the process using another separate windows service. The code works perfectly fine running from a windows form or service program, but not asp.net, not sure why.
View 1 RepliesI have this issue that occurs with me and driving me crazy i have a report that contains thousands of records and i need to export it to excel , but the excel normal extension .xls
is showing missing records at the end of the file , so i save my file as an .xlsx extension it saves correctly but when i open the file it generates an error
"Excel cannot open the file '<var>filename</var>.xlsx' because the file format for the file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."but when i test the file i drag it and open it in an empty notepad all the records shows up correctly
I have a project that has a need to display a Excel file in second window, but because other controls are needed, simply launching excel is not sufficient. Right now I do not know if the target machines have excel installed but I know with certainty that if they do it would be 2010, is there any method or library that allows you frame your own form around an excel window?
View 1 RepliesI have an application the contains several excel files bundled with it. I'm not opening the files and processing them within my application. These files contain a data-connection to reload all of the pivot-tables within each excel file. I have a 'link' on my form, that when clicked, it determines which file to open and calls a sub using filename and executing Process.Start(filename) for any excel file I want to open. I have no problems opening any one of the files and then exiting excel.
The problem is when I 'close' a file, but don't exit Excel; then try to open another file(clicking link on form)... it creates a new instance of Excel.
I know from experimenting that the fileopendialog form will 'reuse' an existing Excel instance, IF it does not already have a file open.
How can I do the same thing without using the fileopendialog?
I don't want the end-user to have access to the folders where these files live. That's why I have multiple 'links' on my form, one for each xls that already exists. I just want them to be able to click on a link and the xls file opens AND if they choose to merely 'close' a file and not exit... Don't create a new instance of Excel, but re-use the existing one.
