We needed an inter-process reader/writer lock.We decided to use a file and lock the first byte using LockEx and UnlockEx. The class creates a file in the system temp folder when it is created. The file is created with readwrite access and share read|write|delete.We also specify DeleteOnClose so we don't leave loads of temp files laying around. Obviously AcquireReader and AcquireWriter call LockEx with appropriate flags and ReleaseLock calls UnlockEx.We have tested this class using a small application that you can run several instances of and it works perfectly. The application that uses it has a problem, which we have managed to re-produce in another small test app. In pseudo code it is
Create InterProcessReaderWriter
Dispose InterProcessReaderWriter without acquiring any locks
Launch a child process which takes a reader lock
The first time this runs, it works fine. If you attempt to run it again, while the child process from the first time is still holding the lock, we get an UnauthorisedAccessException when trying to open the file.This appears to be a permission issue, not a sharing violation but all the processes in this test case are running as the same user.

How can i access a file through FileStream which is being used by a window service. Actually i am trying to access a file which is also being used by our window service. I need to read data from this file. I am using below code but also getting following error:

I tried changing FileShare.Read parameter to FileShare.None but it didn't work out. I also read below post which says that it is not possible but i think there is a way to read it like if you open a file through Firefox but still window service is accessing it.
I have a program in VB.NET 2005. At some point I have to open an Access2003-Application for getting data in it. I do that by pretending my program is a human user and let it do all the work in Access as a human user would do. Filling Fields, pressing buttons etc. I use the Primary Interop Assemblies for that. So far so good. That code is in use for over half a year now. In the last week I got Office 2007 installed on my machine. Of course I tested the installed version of my program if everthing still works. Every test was succesfull. But if I do the same tests in Visual Studio it always crashes.

View 5 RepliesI have some coding which edits my text file and saves two versions, the first version removes all multiple space with one space and saves it as a text file and the second replaces the spaces with a comma and saves it as a csv file. The problem I have is however later on when I run other code using the saved text and csv files, it looks like the processes are in use. I get the following error:

I have made a small program which loads a file into a listview when somebody presses the load button on the form. The user can also put information in the listview by filling in some textboxes and press on the add button.So now the weird thing is that if the user loads an empty file ( With no information in it ) and presses load on the form and after that tries to add information to the file you get a "The process cannot access the file '" because it is being used by another process" error.

I have difficulty in removing the LDB generated by the "CREATE" method of ADOX in the following code segment.Aims: Create (on the fly) a new access database and then export data (says Arena modules) to that newly created database.
Expected: The newly created access database should be able to be used by some external operations, say Access.exe, after the end of the subroutine and without exiting the current VB program.
1) I tested that the "Arena code" do nothing about the create/release of the ldb file.
2) I tested the "Exclusive Mode" in connection string, but the access file is still locked by the vb program.
3) I tested under both inside the VB environment, and directly invoke the generated from Explorer, and same results.
4) Other database formats is not the options to me. (due to Arena export limit)
5) It is not a web app.

1. I have to create a file. 2. Then I want to write a string into the text file.
I can do part 1 no problem with: File.Create(strFilePath) But when I try part 2 to write to the file it won't allow this as it's still being used:

sw.Flush()
sw.Close()
My code in part 2 works fine on a file that hasn't just been created.
How do I release the file from the File object?
There doesn't seem to be a .close or .flush option.
I am using Ms Access 2000 on a Windows Server 2008 and I have four users connected on a network to the server accessing the databases through a VB6 application which is loaded on all of the users' computers.While using the VB6 program i receive the error "Error 3050 Could not lock file".I know it has to do with the .ldb file.I have checked the permission and all users have full read/write/modify rights on the drive and the folder that the databases are stored in.I checked the MaxLocksPerFile and it is set to 9500.I even tried compacting and repairing and still this error persists.

After closing Visual Studio 2005 and reopening the solution I can compile again successfully. This is an old solution that has been fine for a long time. I just recently changed computers and reinstalled everything.I am running win XP Pro sp2, Visual Studio 2005 sp1.
My program writes to a .txt file (and this is the ONLY program that writes to it) in a thread (with lowest priority), but every now and then it gets an error "The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file" when it executes this code: swLog.WriteLine(sPacket).Other program reads from the file, not write to it, why do I get this error, and how can I get around it, or what shall I do when I get this error since I can't write to the file ?

When i step through my code, it will do as intended, e.g. clear all contents of test1.txt. when i run it at run time it throws this error. I have created a Windows service in VS 2005 that monitors a folder for XML files, reads some data elements from the XML using XmlDocument, then copies the files to another location. I find that when I drop 2 or more XML files into the folder simultaneously, it processes them with no problems, but when I drop the same files into the folder one at a time, I will get an error on the second file: "The process cannot access the file <my file> because it is being used by another process." If I stop my service, restart it, and drop the second file into the folder again, it works the second time. I am confident that no other program is accessing this file at the same time as my service. My impression is that the processing of file # 1 is somehow not releasing all of the resources, leading to the processing of file # 2 mistakenly thinking that it can't access that second file.
