I have an application that i use with click once to install on clients pc's. However, some(or Most) of them require me to modify the hosts file. What is the best way of doing this?
View 1 RepliesI had a few small programs that I bought from the internet and so I was building a program that will have all those program in one cd. I got that far that the program is almost done and it opens every program up with a press of a button. Now instaed of writing every product key down on the sheet or have VB open up a text file with the keys on it is there a way I can add the product key to the install with just by the press of a button?
View 13 RepliesI have a vb.net form to add, modify or delete the product list..i have a datagridview in which i m loading data from sql server datatable...now i have a text box which accepts code for the product..i want that when i press a key, all data starting with that key should be highlighted in datagridview.....
eg
i have product codes
A001
A002
A003
C001
D001,, etc..
Now i press A in text box...in datagridview all data with A should be highlighted
With the on-line one click install feature will the application install on a MAC?
View 2 RepliesRight now i have a form in the VB where there are 2 combobox in it. user can choose from a range of products that comes together with some description and these are to be stored in a database table.. when i retrieve these data from another form in VB, i'm only able to retrieve the first product and it repeat e same product in my second textbox.

ProductMstrTbl : ProductID, ProductName..
ProductDetailsTbl: ProductID, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty..
DataSet(ds) : ProductID, ProductName, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty.
The problem is that: Showing from dataset or entering new records into the dataset is no problem, but am not able to save the modified dataset into DataBase. SqlCommandBuilder failed to generate the corresponding INSERT, UPDATE command as the dataset has multiple base tables.
I am looking for a free utility or way to protect my software by requiring a Product ID (Which will be created when a customer requests a paid license) to use the application after a demo version. Like most shareware apps.

I've tried going into the app files and modifying it there but it doesn't seem to change in program. I'm just trying to find a good way to handle settings and My.Settings.

View 5 RepliesI am building a winform vb.net program that uses an access db. I have added the database to the program using the design-time tools in visual studio 2008 (added a dataset to the project), and I am now using the dataset to bind items within my forms successfully. When I debug the program everythin works great, but then when I publish the program, I get an error saying that the database was not found in the appdata/app/2.0/(a very long encoded folder name) folder.
How do I modify the project so that it publishes the database with the project using the one-click install?
Is it possible to point the install of ClickOnce to a directory of my choice on the local computer instead of caching it in Documents and Settingsuser? some place like c:Program FilesFoo Apps for example? I like the ClickOnce stuff a lot and especially the update on run functionality, but would like it independent from the user...
Dev/Usr Environment info: I am using VB Express '08 and SQL Express '05 for my applications in a corporate networking environment and the users will be installing from a network share drive. I have tested this and it works fine, just the location seems to be undesirable.
I would like to make sure that my application is installed in the correct location on the hard drive or allow the user to determine the install location.

View 2 Repliesmy vb experience is fairly limited - I've only used it when supporting legacy applications or for small tasks so apologies if what I'm asking seems simple. I wrote a small vb install script which creates a new folder on a users desktop, copies over relevant files from the install folder to the users new folder and creates a shortcut on the users desktop.
This works great for giving stuff to QA to test. However, there's one dll included in the install folder which is also in the users GAC. The code looks in the GAC first for this dll and only looks in the install folder if none exists in the GAC.
What I want to do is include a line in my install script to copy this dll to the users GAC as well as copying it to the installation folder.Is there anyway to do this in VB? I did find the following on one of the MS sites for installing into the GAC gacutil /i a.dll
Is it possible to run this through VB or is there a cleaner way of doing this?

I looked at alternatives for shopping cart/product display and none of them meet my needs (e.g. ProStores). I wish to know which type of database you would use to have Many Products - Multiple Images per Product - possibly Multiple Vendors per product. I have begun a RDB using access as a prototype and I feel there was no faster method than inserting every product manually. Is there an alternative? And would you use a frame to display this data?
Would you store the images to the DB or a file reference on the host. I have begun with a file reference and truncated the path to only relate to where the file will reside on the host.
