I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

I'm using a LinqDataSource to populate a basic GridView in ASP.NET. The user has the ability to filter the results, so I use a few WhereParameters and the Where within the LinqDataSource.My client has requested an option to export the filtered results to a file. Easy enough to pipe the data into a file, but I would prefer not to rewrite all the where clauses in the codebehind. I would simply like to extract the full set of results, preferably by using the already configure LinqDataSource.When using LinqDataSource's OnSelect method, the e.Result has the data I'm after, but my GridView PageSize is set to 20, which means that the LinqDataSource (rightly so) only fetches the first 20 records.Is there anyway to get hold of the entire data set?

When the combobox index changes, the program loads the correct account (checking or saving) from two different sequential files. I don't think I have the calcBalance procedure in the correct class file. And that is what I am having trouble with. Accessing it to display it. [Code]
View 1 RepliesI am trying to create a small application that will tell me if a website is up and running. This application will monitor if the site goes down. The problem is that there are several websites sharing the same IP address, and I cannot use ping to monitor it for the same reason. I do not know what type of code can I use to query the availability of the website. I read about webRequest and webResponse but I do not know how to get the response information that will tell me if the site is up or down. The code should be able to tell if a site like "mundo.reporters.com is accessible. That is the only thing.information to point to a potential solution will be more than welcomed.

View 1 RepliesMy desktop application is developed in VB.Net and can be run through two types of users, one who install it on their local machine and execute locally.
Second type of users will run the application remotely from the server.i.e. Application will install on the server and user will execute that application from client side. Server can be a Citrix Meta Frame or any server accessed through Remote Desktop Connection.
I want to maintain single exe for both types of users.
Question:
Is there any mechanism/way through which I can come to know programmatically whether application is running locally or remotely?
VB 2008 - I would like to retrieve the Vista Version my app is running under. I understand the System.Environment.OSVersion.Version.Major/Minor/Build but I have a number of Vista Systems, some x86 and some x64. A mixture of Home/Business/Ultimate. Is there a way to recover more detailed info such as "Vista Ultimate x64 SP1" or do I need to poke around in the Registry?

This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse me if I'm posting wrong. Anyway, I've been having an issue that I've never seen before and is driving me nut, I have a windows form on which I have placed many textboxes that display information from a MS SQL database. The user can then change these values and hit a "save" button which writes the changes to the database. I also have certain textboxes that with the "on leave" event (after a user enters a possible new value) trigger a method that recalculates some of the other fields based on the new information. Hopefully that all makes sense.
So the problem is, when I run through this "recalc" method the first time around, it doesn't update those textboxes that it's supposed to. However, when I put a breakpoint in and debug through it, the debugger shows it putting in the correct values into the textboxes. It's just as soon as the method is done, it puts them back to blank, or whatever they were before

As the form loads, create a Black button (OK) and also create a class which itself creates a single Cyan button. Am using VB 2010 Express. When I run, it creates the Black Button but not the Cyan (i.e. the one that is generated by the class).

This is related to WCF, where one needs to provide to CreateHost a single class, which implements all interfaces required for the end points. In this scenario, ActionDispatcher is such a class, and IAction is one of the many interfaces to be implemented.
My vision is to avoid implementing IAction in ActionDispatcher manually, but have some sort of registration mechanism, where I can say, that ActionDispatcher must implement interfaces IAction, IDoing, INoAction, etc - and have the dispatching methods generated for me.
MSDN says, that any class is compatible with any interface, so I don't need to declare "Implements" in the ActionDispatcher. But I still need to implement the interface and connect the implementing method to the interface definition, so WCF can find it when needed.
The closest thing I found is probably the Automatic Interface Implementer, but it (1) creates a new type, (2) adds dummy methods.
I has also tried to understand CodeCompileUnit class, but so far couldn't see the relation to what I need.

In my application I have many different forms each use 3 different database. And right now I am placing the connection string in each form but when it is need to change I have to change in every form. Now what I want to store all connection string in a vb class and call them in every form. So that if I need to change I can do in that class. I have stored my connection string in database so even I don't want to connect to database again and again. I have some idea in which maybe a public class is used and some how I will call it on other forms.

I am trying to retrieve the Attributes of a class's property specifically. So for example. Let's say I have a class called "Employee", and a custom attribute called CustomLabelAttribute with a string value. I know that the MenuItem class contains an internal class named MenuItemData, which contains itself an internal member named onDrawItem. Given a MenuItem, I want to retrieve the object corresponding to the member onDrawItem. But all I manage to do is to get the FieldInfo, not the object itself.

When reaching the last line, I get an error saying something like that (it's traduced):
The field 'onDrawItem' défined in type 'System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem+MenuItemData' is not a field of the target object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem. I don't know what object to pass to the GetValue function on the last line. My goal is to remove the base eventHandler of the menuItem, named DrawItem. I want to start a job in a new thread or using backgroundworker to do it but havent done that before and asking you wich way I should do it. My program has a datagridview with a list of files, one file per row. I want the user to be able to select a row and then press "Start download" to start a background job of the download. I want to get events back of the progress of the download.
I have a class clsDownload that handles everything and raises events back but how do I implement the backgroundworking?Should I use the System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker inside of the class or create some wrapper that handles this or use some other threading stuff?
Edit: I dont understand how to implement my download in the backgroundworker, any small example would be very nice. The example on msdn didnt get me far.I have a download class that has a StartDownload-function. Should I use the backgroundworker IN the class or in the caller? "feeling stupid"

I have no problem to manipulate a data (in a thread) from a form, the textbox can be updated using delegate and invokerequired but it doesn't seem as easy when the thread that processes a variable is handled by a thread that is running in a class.

In Visual Studio 2010 express (using vb.net) I've somehow set two forms to use the same class.
Basicly I have two designer files with 1 implementation each. For some reason both designer files are calling the same implementation file, and I can't find any settings to correct the problem.
I am instantiating a form object in my code behind the dataset just to access some form level variables and to occasionally set a label in the navigator bar. Recently in the b2 Team version of VS2010 there are some strange errors thrown in the immediate window and then I'm tossed out of debug mode and back into the IDE. This code has been operating for some time in this project without this behavior. A team member has just reproduced the behavior in his development machine also.The error that starts the shutdown of the debug instance is this: Control accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
