Textbox Text Property Won't Update Programmatically After First Time Running Through A Method (but Will Thereafter)?

This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse me if I'm posting wrong. Anyway, I've been having an issue that I've never seen before and is driving me nut, I have a windows form on which I have placed many textboxes that display information from a MS SQL database. The user can then change these values and hit a "save" button which writes the changes to the database. I also have certain textboxes that with the "on leave" event (after a user enters a possible new value) trigger a method that recalculates some of the other fields based on the new information. Hopefully that all makes sense.
So the problem is, when I run through this "recalc" method the first time around, it doesn't update those textboxes that it's supposed to. However, when I put a breakpoint in and debug through it, the debugger shows it putting in the correct values into the textboxes. It's just as soon as the method is done, it puts them back to blank, or whatever they were before

If you right click on the time at the lower left of your Windows screen, you can click on "Adjust date/time", and within that, you can update the time on your PC via an internet time server. Is there a way to do the same thing, i.e. synchronize the PC time via an internet server, via a VB.Net program?
I've created a private sub called addIRCRoom Which makes the Tab and the TextBox, but i can't figure out how to update the text in the TextBox.I've made this function to handle it:

I am trying to update a textbox before the program has finished running. If you have a counter (z +=1) how to you get it to display each number to display before the program finishes running?
I am having trouble accessing the main thread (my form) when calling thread is running in a class (or module). I have no problem to manipulate a data (in a thread) from a form, the textbox can be updated using delegate and invokerequired but it doesn't seem as easy when the thread that processes a variable is handled by a thread that is running in a class.

I have several reports that all merge onto the same datatable. The user can click several to run and then hit the 'find records' button to run them all simultaneously. Since they each take so long, I'd like to update the user on the status bar as each of these stored procedures is called successfully. However, when I call the procedure, i only get one update at the very end listing evertyhing.
Is there a way to enter text in a text box programatically, without the "changed" event being fired? Or do I have to use a flag to indicate that nothing should be done when the text is changed by the program?

I have a drop down menu, and based on which item is selected, I call a web service and then dynamically create some text boxes.The first time I drop down the menu and select an item, it works perfectly, and the text boxes are created and populated dynamically. However, the next time I drop down the menu (after the first postback), and select something different..fter the second postback, the original values remain in the textboxes.
I need to be able to display 60 * x. X is going to be the time between hitting a Stat button and a Stop button in seconds. I need this to be shown until it is stopped. So i was thinking something like txtBox1.text = 60*time, but I do not know if that is correct and I do not know how to get that time. Also I am not sure how to continuously update the text box.
I would like to display text in a textbox without having to press enter to show the text. Currently all I am showing is the hostname and ip address of the current computer.
Windows Forms, VB application... Forgive me in advance for this very elementary question but I am overlooking something really simple here. I would like to have a label show the current value of a variable as the for each loop runs.. I created a very simple Button Click event to figure out where its failing. As it is right now the value does not display until after the for each loop finishes running, which it should actually display the counter value each time it runs through... I know this is possible and really simple because I did it years back but for the life of me cant figure out why I am missing the bar as it should constantly update the label to reflect that?Test Sub is as follows:

start with I was given a program by a friend that was created in Excel 2003 with the help of Visual Basic Editor. He said he used Visual Basic 2003, which he is not 100% sure about. I'm trying to write a Database manager in VB (2010) that updates a SQL database that compiles and summarizes my financial records. The code works, but I'm having issues with one exception that I think I understand, but can't circumvent. I've built an I/O form that enters a series of purchases and sales into a temporary datatable. After review of the list, the program connects to the database and executes the SQL. That all works and isn't a problem.

I have a function called textupdate that updates text1.text value. when i call this function in Form1_Load, text1 is updated successfully. However, when i call this function in Private Shared Sub function2, no update is done. I am a newbie in vb.net programming and it may be a silly question but I could not solve it
