Properties On Inherited Data Column?
Jul 29, 2009
I created a custom datacolumn class which inherits from DataColumn and has 2 properties. I then successfully added this custom datacolumn to a datatable. When i try to access the properties through the datatable.columns(index).property, the properties i added are not listed. If i go back in the code to where i instantiate the custom datacolumn i can see the properties here, but not after its added to the datatable.

on the custom inherited control i created, i noticed that when i bind my custom property to a data column, if that data column returns a value other than Null it always return a datarowstate of modified even if there were no changes. don't make any changes to the current record before you go to the next record. you will see that the rowstate will still return Modified.

I have a base form class that is providing a new property that looks Like this
Public Class BaseForm
Private _HappyTime As Boolean
Public Property HappyTime() As Boolean
[Code]....
Now when I inherit the BaseForm on a new form, the HappyTime property displays in the properties window as false, and is uneditable.
I've recreated this BaseForm and Inheriting Form in an entirely new soloution and, the HappyTime property is editable and works as expected. For some reason in the existing project (where these changes need to be made) it's not behaving properly.
Environment Information: .Net Framework 3.5, Visual Studio 2010, Win7 x64

I am trying to override a property of a subclass of an inherited base class. I've tried to simplify this code as much as possible but am not comfortable enough with my own abilities to simplify anything else without loosing the ability to understand an answer.The property propertyName in the otherClass is currently incorrect. I want to be able to override propertyName in baseClass with the propertyName in otherClass. Is this possible to accomplish?
Public Interface interfaceName
Interface iInterfacePropertyName
Enum enumName

I am using visual inheritance and was wondering if there is a way to change the properties of inherited controls at design time, preferably in the form designer. If not, then in the designer code. I have my control declared as Public in the base class. I can access it in the child form code, but not in the form designer. Is this just not possible?

I've written my code to implement a new property and to set the content to this default text and grey the text whenever the textbox is empty, and to hide it when the user starts typing. This all works fine at runtime.[code]My question is this : If I place an instance of the control on a form, and set the DefaultText via the properties grid, why doesn't my Property Set code run?I'd expect the control on the form to show my new DefaultText in the control, but instead it remains blank. When I run the form it does display correctly, but just not at design time. I place a breakpoint in the DefaultText set property code and it simply doesn't run.

I have a base form and I inherit other forms from it. However, if i go back and change say the size of the base form, I don't see those changes take effect in my inherited forms. Does anyone know why that is? Is there a solution to this issue?So as far as design is goes, what exactly gets inherited by other forms?

I'm stuck trying to figure this one out. I am trying to set a GridViews Column properties by using reflection and the Extended properties off a DataTable.the Code looks something like this
Dim colproperty As PropertyInfo = gv.Columns(col.Ordinal).GetType.GetProperty(key)
Where key = "ItemStyle"
So I get the ItemStyle Property by I'm unsure how to set the next varibel which would be BackColor:Red in the collection i have that key access. This is all text.in the XML the extendedproperty is set like this
msprop:ItemStyle="BackColor:Red"
I can easily set all of the attribues for a gridview using something simular to this but of course gridview columns do not have attributes only properties.
Gridview attribute setting code
Dim nvCollection As PropertyCollection = table.ExtendedProperties
For Each key As String In nvCollection.Keys()
Dim colproperty As PropertyInfo = labelOut.GetType().GetProperty(key)
[code]....

At runtime, I have a collection of rows (Row class). Each of them consist of column values, represented by instances of a ColumnValue class. The name of the columns are determined at runtime, and are in a separate columns descriptor collection (Column class).I want to create a DataGridView that displays all Row instances. Of course, the DataGridView's columns shall be exactly those specified by the Column instances in the containing collection.But since DataGridView's columns can fetch their values from a list item's public properties only, and I cannot easily define such a property at runtime, I cannot use DataGridView to display the tabular data.
' Classes for table structure representation
Public Class TColumn ' describes my columns
Public Name As String

I am trying to add some style properties to a column but the code I am currently using doesnt seem to work at all?
Dim oApp As New Excel.Application
Dim oWB As Excel.Workbook = oApp.Workbooks.Add()
Dim oWS As Excel.Worksheet = CType(oWB.Worksheets(1), Excel.Worksheet)
Dim style As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Style
style = oWB.Styles.Add("Style1")
[Code] .....
It's still the same as "default" would look when just opening up excel for the first time.

I have built a deployment program (vS 2008 Standard Edition) and tried to set the Properties column to a product name and company. I have also tried leaving these blank. I'm really trying to configure my setup.exe so that it installs by default in Program FilesMyFolderName without adding a subdirectory to the path. Is there somewhere I can specify exactly the default path for my setup without it adding a subdirectory? What do I edit?

This is my programs complete code, the only problem is i want to fix the amount of decimal places that show up in my gridview. The problem is if i do this on the asp side the location of the column gets thrown off and the column is duplicated. I figured if i just remade the table on the asp side it would work only problem is if i remove the sql for that particular column the asp side column cannot get data.

I want to merge or import a column of data from one data table created in VB.NET to another data table's 'same-named' column.The destination data table has all the required columns created before hand but the source data table contains one column at a time, whose name is the same as that of one of the columns in destination data table.Whatever coding I have done for the same till now, results in blank rows at starting. The destination data table looks like this:And I want it to be displayed it as:

I have a project where I have data in the my.settings part of the project. When I compile the project and run it on an XP machine, a Vista machine, and a Windows 7 beta machine, the data is not getting updated. In fact I can't even find the .config file that should be created when my application runs. The code I am using to update the data is this:my.settings.properties. item ("Agent").defaultValue = "Andy"my.settings.save()my.settings.reload()What do I need to do to get the changes to be saved?

I currently have a class
Code:
Public Class Customer
Public Property AccountNumber() As String
Public Property PMDue() As String
[code]....
Account Class is initialized as new customer. To save the data from each property in the Account Class, I'm currently looping thru the properties each time Account obtains new data. I tried to simplify the process by the following line...
Code:
CustomerStreamToWrite.WriteLine(Account)
This does not work as written. I figured it would be much faster. It did not write out the property data. It saved "WindowsApplication1.Customer" Not exactly what I wanted. Is there a method to get it to save the properties in a written out style by just using the class name?

I have a need to populate a data object containing 30+ properties from a database table. I could create a simple class containing a public variable for each of the required properties, but I don't want to.
Is the following code a bad idea:
<Serializable()>
Public Class DtoEmployee
Public EmployeeId As String

Let's say I have an employee class with ID, Forename, Surname, Initials and Email Address properties.
At present, you can construct an Employee object by passing a data row which, typically will include all these fields. However, sometimes I only want the ID, Forename and Surname but still want to populate an object.
[Code]...
However obviously if certain fields are not present in the data row, I will have an error. Is there a quick way of populating the object based on the fields that are present within the data row without a) having to have separate subs for each circumstance and b) without having to try / catch (or something similar) around each property? I know other languages have options like this - where if there is no value, it will be another value (i.e. a default).

Im doing my first project with WinForms, and Im trying to get the DataBinding working. Theres no database in my project, but I'd like to bind some of the TextBoxes to objects' properties. In the other section of this forum (here) I found this line of C# code which does it: textBox2.DataBindings.Add(new Binding("Text", this.myPerson, "LastName"));
my question is can data binding to object properties be set up during design time (without writing code)? If so, how? P.S. I know how I would set up this binding if in WPF, but I'm forced to use WinForms.

I'm making a control and I am trying to finalize my design time properties grid. I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)

In the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?

I'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?
I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:
Public Class NFPA
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Close()
End Sub
[code]....
