So my issue is that I created program that writes a text file in several lines but I am having trouble reading those lines in separate labels on another program. I don't want them in one label but separated with one word to one label.
how can I put a counter on the time a new file is added to the program? I can't seem think of a code for it.

how to permanently save to text files then re-open all of the information again using SFD and OFD. Now my teacher has come back at me and said that i need to be able to save the information from multiple text boxes and have the text in certain labels to also be saved into the one text file (the labels need to be done because it is a database and these labels are like the fields and the right text box needs to match the right label)
I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. I want to read the whole file, and split the colums so each set of numbers is put into an array to be used as an input for later. If the text file only contains one line of numbers like 00100 25690 21586, I have written a code to seperate those and put them into an array which is attached. If the text file contains more than one row of numbers I can read the whole file in line by line but I can't get the strings seperated.
I created a program that has serval labels on a form and a listview object. It has a button that when clicked reads a textfile and loads up values in the listview object. I then can click and drag text from the listview box to any label on the form and then the program removes the value from the listview box. Now, my question is how can I instruct VB to save these values in the text property of the labels so that the next time the program is loaded the labels will contain the values loaded during the last run time session?

I need to be able to extract the x column into an array, the y into an array, and the z into an array. I learned how to pull it into a string, and how to split for every line, but i don't know how to split after each comma and separate them.

I've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I am trying to import a TAB (NOt comma) delimited text file into a DataGridView. The following code works fine if I have a comma separated file. All I have to do is change the FMT to "Delimited".It just does not work with FMT=TabDelimited. All columns are read into single datatable column. The text file is ANSI text and I have double checked to make sure Tabs are tabs and not spaces, even exported a sample Tab Delimited file from Excel.Can this even be done using Text Driver? [code]

I've looked at the Help stuff and learned (sorta) about delimiters... but the thing is I don't want to write my entire list in a continuous line separated by commas--I want it to keep reading each line, and moving on to the next, until there are no more lines left. I am thoroughly stumped, and would appreciate it SO much if someone could help. I have just recently been using VB 2010 after using VB5. I have noticed a lot of changes. The problem I have is that I wish to open and save text files to and from arrays in the background. Obviously it reads a file - a 20M text file to be exact. Now if this 20M file is on my PC, it reads in about a second. If i open this same file in a text editor, such as Conext, its about the same.However, if this 20m File is on a network location, the Context text editor loads the file in about 1 min 40 seconds. I would have expected similar times with my vb.net code, but it took 7 minutes 45 seconds.I have no idea what the text editor uses to read a file, but i figure i must be able to get similar time in vb.net somehow.
