i'm working on a project that is reading text from a file and displaying totals on my form.My issue is that everytime i press my btnCalculate Nothing Happens.Here is the File i am reading from which is in my debug folder.

I have a case where I am trying to display sub-totals from an exce spreadsheet into a text-box on a User-form. And is it possible to make a selection in one listbox and have corresponding selection highlighted in another listbox?
View 1 RepliesI've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this

Can anyone possibly take a look at my code (below) and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I have been sitting here for hours trying to figure it out. I'm very new at this and I'm thoroughly confused. I am using a book for Visual Studio "Programming in Visual Basic" and I have gone through all of the tutorials and code examples and followed them exactly (at least as far as I can tell). However, whenever I run the program, I am not getting the sum of the quantities I assigned to the constants showing up in"AccessoriesTxtBx" as I'm trying to. I am trying to implement the code that Axarydax showed in C# that I am trying to translate to use into vb.net. My problem is that the code will make my new text file but will not write any of the lines from the other text file to it and just leaves it blank. I think my problem is with the while loop statement but I am not sure.

I'm trying to read multiple values from a registry subkey in the CurrentUser key. I need to display these values in a listbox with multiple lines. I so far can only get one of the values from the subkey. I know (or at least I think I know) that I need to list the values in a string (with a possible loop), and then just display the string to the listbox. View 2 RepliesI've been working on a class project for quite a while, and I have not been able to figure out this step on my own. What I'm trying to do is connect the totals from three forms to a fourth page where I can then tally to those totals and then add 7% sales tax on the final total on the last page (I don't think I'll have a problem with the final part of add the 7% sales tax, but I'm not completely certain how to go about moving the totals through to that final form. Also, some of my forms use radiobuttons and one uses checkmark controls. I'm going to show some of the code that I have for each page in case this will make a difference. I think I need to do something with a public variable, but I'm not sure how to title that variable, and the public variable should have sub variable sections in each form, or if one specific public variable should be placed at the beginning of each form.I had also considering using a module to connect the totals in the forms together, because someone had suggested this, but I am not familiar at all with this method.

My datagrid houses line items for different forms (Sales Orders, Purchases Orders, etc.), and when a value is changed (i.e. quantity or price), I want it to re-calculate the datagrid automatically (extended amount) and also re-calculate totals in the form itself without having to hit the Save Button. Right now I have a sub-routine that fires when the button is chosen, but how do I fire this event automatically on datagrid changes?
View 7 RepliesI'm taking my first (and only) beginning programing class for Visual Basics 2008. I'm working on my final project and have hit a snag. A little background info - I have been able to code everything except for two final steps (but they are my most difficult steps), on these final steps I've gotten two suggestions on other sites, one person helped me with the coding which I used for my form1, but it I still have several errors, and another person suggested that I use a module.
Here is the issue. I have totals on three forms that need to pass through to a final form, and once they are on the final form they need to show up in an itemized list and need to then be totaled again. I actually have a total of 5 forms including my first form aptly named form1, which incidentally is where someone told me I should set up my whole 'connecting the totals' form, and I believe the guy was on the right path with helping me but, I'm still obviously pretty lost on this last segment of coding. Since I had little difficulty with the majority of my project, I didn't think this last bit would be so difficult. I'm going to list my coding for each form below. My project is due Tue morning May 5th Eastern Standard Time, just in case someone starts reading this on or after that date. Just in case it helps explain the issue, I will also post my listing of error codes from my VB project, and they all are centered around my form1 (which is the form that I'm trying to set up the transfer through of the form totals). I also see that I can post attachments so in case it will help I'm going to post my project in the attachment too.

actually i'm trying to write a small program for my project's presentation. i created a form with buttons, each time i click on a button, i want a text loaded from MS word document to be displayed inside the form.
i thought about dislaying the text inside a label or textbox, but the problem is that the text doesn't preserve its state, i mean colors and fonts which are defined in the MS word document, it just displays everything in black color, small size..etc, even if i change the properties of the label in color or font, thoses changes will be applied to the whole text.
is there any control who can display the text loaded from a MS word coument with its colors and fonts which are already defined in the word document, or there any solution to do this ?

I want to split each line at the comma and write the left side to a textbox and the the right side to another textbox. I'm close, with the code below, but I can only post results from the first line in the file. How do I loop this and append the text results in each of the textboxes.

I am trying to import a TAB (NOt comma) delimited text file into a DataGridView. The following code works fine if I have a comma separated file. All I have to do is change the FMT to "Delimited".It just does not work with FMT=TabDelimited. All columns are read into single datatable column. The text file is ANSI text and I have double checked to make sure Tabs are tabs and not spaces, even exported a sample Tab Delimited file from Excel.Can this even be done using Text Driver? [code]

View 2 RepliesI'm a little new to VB, and I'm in a class for it, but I'm trying to do something we aren't going to learn in the class (mostly out of sheer interest) and I need help. I'm trying to read lines from a text file into a listbox, each line representing a new item on the listbox. For example, if the text file reads: [code]I want to be able to take that as is and read it into a listbox, where those words would appear in the exact same fashion; as a list, each as separate items. I've looked at the Help stuff and learned (sorta) about delimiters... but the thing is I don't want to write my entire list in a continuous line separated by commas--I want it to keep reading each line, and moving on to the next, until there are no more lines left. I am thoroughly stumped, and would appreciate it SO much if someone could help. For a frame of reference, this is the point I'm at now with my code: [code]Note that when I run the program, all it will do is read the first line of text available and stop; once I press ENTER in a text file, it decides to stop reading.

I have searched on google for nearly an hour now and haven't found anything of any real use. One of the earlier projects we submitted used a similar target, and I managed to get it working fine, however I dont have the original source code with me and I cannot remember how I did it.
I believe I used a Net.WebRequest method of some sort, because I had tried using StreamReader and ended up with an URI error or something like that.
I have just recently been using VB 2010 after using VB5. I have noticed a lot of changes. The problem I have is that I wish to open and save text files to and from arrays in the background. I've attached what I would do in VB5. I have searched around, but all the examples I find use a Textbox instead of an array. Can anyone show me how I can do this with VB 2010?
