Reiterate Through Large Collect 100 Items At A Time?

Jun 10, 2011

I have a routine that is supposed to grab all email addresses within a certain group. The email address list can be well over 1000 emails. When emailing it out though I can only send around 150 emails at a time. So what I i've done is executed a query and threw all the emails into a collection.

How do I now reiterate through the collection grab 100 addresses each time and call the routine to email that group?

Dim emailToGroup As String = ddlEmailTo.SelectedValue
Dim connStr As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("SNA_TRT").ConnectionString

Multi-Threading - Collect Data Simultaneously From 4-6 Sites At A Time?

May 4, 2011

I have just written an app in VB 2010 with .NET 4.0 that contacts our field loggers to collect data via modem or IP. Originally it was written without threading, but now the requirements have changed and I need to collect data simultaneously from 4-6 sites at a time. I have never used threading, TPL, etc. Can anybody tell me where to begin so that I can concurrently run multiple collections?

VS 2008 Pre-Load A Large Text File List Items In Dropdown

I need to load a large txt file that is in a fixed width format. There are over 45K lines, so speed is important.I need to load one of the fields into a dropdown box and have another field (label) display the text of another field in the related line.I could import the file to an access db if needed, but would rather not as i also want the txt file to update from a link on a regular bases. So having it in a DB would be more work to process that part.[code]

Large Database File (mdb) Takes Time To Load In .net So Alternative?

Feb 8, 2011

I have 4k records in access database. And one of the field value contains ~100 lines each so and one other field has ~25 lines. So total database size reaches ~30MB and it takes lot of time 15-20 seconds to load the database in vb.net using odbc [URL]..and updating of any other small fields also takes time due to database being large

So as an alternative I used rtf file (txt files were not preserving all the newline characters). So these file are around 5-10kb only. But for 4k records and 2 fields I have now 8k files. And copying of these 8k rtf files is taking huge time for 5MB transfer it takes an hour or so.So is there any other alternative for storage of this data. So that it will be portable and easily loaded/accessed/updated from vb.net?

Large Multidimensial Array - Write A Program To Do Markov Chain But States Are Quite Large

Jun 9, 2011

I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long

After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single

File I/O And Registry :: AVI Header - Program To Download And Play AVI Files The Files Are Large In Size And Long Time Wise

Dec 11, 2011

I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.

When And Why Need To Use GC.Collect()

Jan 24, 2012

When I work on a large image (10800x7236) after a few cycles I get an out of memory error. but I still don't understand what's going on, and I would appreciate if some expert out there clarified why it didn't work before and it works now. This is the snippet executed after the user clicks twice, and fails after 5-6 cycles:

Identifying Items In Table That Falls After Particular Time Of Day?

Dec 14, 2009

I have a table of data exported to an Excel file that contains a Date/Time Field. The entries in the table are formatted like 01/01/2009 14:00 (military time). Every line in the table contains unique information that is specific to that particular date/time information, 1800 lines of data (the reason that I dont want to hand sort this table). How can I identify the items in the table that fall after a particular time of day? More specifically, I need to identify which of the data fields have a time after 14:00 on that particular day.

Collect Before And After Values From A Dataset?

I'm already detecting if the dataset has changed before the user closes the form so I can prompt them to save their changes. What I'd like to do is to capture the changes they've made, and write them to a database table so that users can track all changes made to each record on the DB.What is the best way to grab hold of the data changes before they're written back to the DB and also grab the original records?

Collect Two Sets Of Data From Two Different Databases

Feb 5, 2009

I collect two sets of data from two different databases, This data is now in two collections. I then join/append the one collection to the other and then put it in to a list view.I really would like to order this list view by the first column without the click event.To make this even harder the First column contains Data that is DateTime and i have found that it orders the items by the day number and not the months or years or time.I have found one way but it then cause's me further agony when doing some checks upon the data within the listview later in my code. This answer is to rearrange the format to "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:SS" then using the listview.sorting = sortorder.

How To Collect Readings Done After Port Opened

Feb 1, 2011

I'm using the .NET SerialPort class to communicate with gauges. Every time a button on a gauge is pressed a reading value is sent over port. The problem I have is that if the gauge button is pressed while the program is off then when the program starts it fires the data received event for that existing data. I don't want this behavior -- I only want to collect readings done after the port is opened.

port = New SerialPort("COM1", 9600, Parity.None, 8, StopBits.One)
port.Open()
port.DtrEnable = True
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100)
port.ReadExisting()
AddHandler port.DataReceived, AddressOf PortDataReceived

If I don't have the Thread.Sleep then the DataReceived event is fired for the previous gauge data. I'm guessing this is because the ReadExisting doesn't block and so when its called immediately after an open it just reads nothing. So if you call 'port.BytesToRead()' immediately after open its zero. If you call it 100ms after open its non-zero. I guess this makes sense -- it takes time after open to read the existing data. Another option is to call read and set the read timeout but that seems no different than Thread.Sleep except you have to catch an exception...

Memory By Adding Some GC.COLLECT() Calls

Dec 10, 2009

I have a windows app (2.0 framework) that's about 860k in size, just a small db app with a couple of data entry screens and a few reports (Cystal) I noticed that when the app starts the mem usage according to task manager is ~11,000k viewing just one report jumps the mem usage to 56,000k. i thought i could reclaim some of that memory by adding some GC.COLLECT() callls, but no luck. Mem usage stays the same in task manager.

So I made an even smaller test app with two forms....Form1 has two buttons , button1 Opens Form2, and button 2 calls GC.COLLECT()

From 2 contains a datagridview and 1 button. The form load for form2 executes the fill for the dataset that populates the datagridview and the button on Form 2 closes the form.

Here's the code for each form....

CODE:

No matter what I've tried so far I cannot seem to reclaim mem that gets used.
