Retrieve Dictionary Definitions And Spell Check?

Feb 15, 2012

way that I can create a program that has the ability to check spelling that are being entered by a user or even displays a definition of a word? For example, when a user keys in a word in textbox then displays a definition into another tetbox but the main concern here is the source of the definition. Of course, it would be a very long task if i would manually encode words and their definitions in a database and retrieve them. I mean, can I just retrieve definition from a dictionary source, like maybe

.Net Office Spell Check?

Dec 6, 2010

I have a Network Deployed .Net 3.5 Windows Form VB.Net application that was referencing the Microsof Office 12.0 Library dll.As of last week the following code was working, however, the operations team upgraded everyone's Office (not a major upgrade, just a minor upgrade). Basically when the spell checker is running it is HIDDEN behind the VB.Net application and it appears that the application is now frozen. When I look at the task manager I see the instance of Office running and when I set that program to the front (in the Task Manager) I see the Spell Check box and can continue through. I'm not sure in my code what I'm missing to set the priority of the Spell Check box so that it is on top of the app.

As of today I used the 2.0.5 version of the 12.0 library but originally I was using 1.2.x of that dll. However upgrading to the latest version did nothing. I got the same results.I should also note that I looked at a 3rd party Spell Checker (Component One) and that required customization in the dictionary.

'Check subject line
If Me.txtSubject.TextLength > 0 And Me.txtSubject.Enabled = True Then
Dim objWA As New Word.Application

It would be easy to check if the Code was the key, but I can't because the Code is not unique.

Use Linq ToDictionary To Return A Dictionary With Multiple Values In The Dictionary Items?

Jan 25, 2010

I want to group items from a linq query under a header, so that for each header I have a list of objects that match the header title. I assumed the solution would be to use ToDictionary to convert the objects, but this allows only one object per "group" (or dictionary key). I assumed I could create the dictionary of type (String, List Of()), but I can't figure out how to write it. As an example I have written a simplified version below.

Flatten A Dictionary Of Dictionaries And Sum The Values Of The Inner Dictionary With LINQ?

Apr 16, 2012

I have the following object:

countDictionary As Dictionary(of Category, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))

The Class has a Enumeration Property. For the purposes of demonstration, I'll call it MasterCategory.I have been trying to get out an object that looks like the following:

groupedCountDictionary As Dictionary(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer)

The best result I could get was:

Lookup(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))

From:

countDictionary.ToLookup(Function(o) o.Key.MasterCategory, Function(o) o.Value)

Which results in a IEnumerable (Of Dictionary(of Date, Integer)) for each MasterCategory value. However, I need that IEnumerable of Dictionary flattened to one dictionary with all the integers summed (total counts) for each date. I then tried to use various selects and group bys (from numerous stackoverflow posts) to "flatten" it, but my efforts have fallen short.

Current Code

[Category Class]
- MasterCategory As Enum
- Name As String etc

.net - Serializing Type Definitions?

Apr 29, 2010

I'm not positive I'm going about this the right way. I've got a suite of applications that have varying types of output (custom defined types). For example, I might have a type called Widget:

Class Widget
Public name as String
End Class

Throughout the course of operation, when a user experiences a certain condition, the application will take that output instance of widget that user received, serialize it, and log it to the database noting the name of the type.

Now, I have other applications that do something similar, but instead of dealing with Widget, it could be some totally random other type with different attributes, but again I serialize the instance, log it to the db, and note the name of the type. I have maybe a half dozen different types and don't anticipate too many additional ones in the future.

After all this is said and done, I have an admin interface that looks through these logs, and has the ability for the user to view the contents of this data thats been logged. The Admin app has a reference to all the types involved, and with some basic switch case logic hinged upon the name of the type, will cast it into their original types, and pass it on to some handlers that have basic display logic to spit the data back out in a readable format (one display handler for each type)NOW... all this is well and good...Until one day, my model changed. The Widget class now has deprecated the name attribute and added on a bunch of other attributes. I will of course get type mismatches in the admin side when I try to reconstitute this data.

I was wondering if there was some way, at runtime, i could perhaps reflect through my code and get a snapshot of the type definition at that precise moment, serialize it, and store it along with the data so that I could somehow use this to reconstitute it in the future?
