Jan 10, 2012I want to retrieve total value from sales table in sqlcommand object. Below is my sample code.I will get error if there was no data in the tabel that matched my query saying that null could not be converted into decimal.
I would not get error if there was data that matched my query and returned the total value in tmpSales variable.My question is what is the best way to deal with this situation?

Scalar Valued Function - Return Datediff As Decimal / Percent
Jan 4, 2011I am currently writing a scalar valued function and I'm having a few issue with the returned result. I have narrowed the problem down to a calculation that convert the difference between two dates as a percentage/decimal. No matter what I try the return value is always a whole number

The cast section needs to return the percentage, I know the rest is working fine through some elimination and testing.

And will this query above return the value as an integer datatype or string?

Feb 28, 2012I have the following SQL query to return all Customers who have no OrderLines with no Parts assigned - i.e. I only want the customers within which every order line of every order has no parts assigned - (in the actual problem I am dealing with a different domain but have translated to customers/orders to illustrate the problem)

This works but generates less than optimal SQL - it is doing a subquery for Count on each row of the customers query rather than using Group By and Having. I tried making the LINQ Group By syntax work but it kept putting the filter as a WHERE not a HAVING clause.Edit in response to Answers below: I am accepting JamieSee's answer as it addresses the stated problem, even though it does not produce the GROUP BY HAVING query I originally had.I am a VB developer so I have had a crack translating your code to VB, this is the closest I got to but it does not quite produce the desired output:

The problem I had is that I have to push "jl" into the Group By "Key" so I can reference it from the Where clause, otherwise the compiler cannot see that variable or any of the other variables appearing before the Group By clause.With the filter as specified I get all customers where at least one order has lines with no parts rather than only customers with no parts in any order.

Query A Database And Return The Results?
Jul 22, 2011I would like to create a vb form with a combo box (with song title), a text box (for song lyrics), and a button (to submit or refresh). It is linked with an access database. The combo box is populated with the songTitle field in the db (this part works fine). The text box is populated with the lyrics that go to that song The first updates fine but I can not figure out how to run a query to pass to the text box's text property. I want the user to be able to select a song from the combo box, click the button, and have the text box populated with the new song's lyrics.
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this, or a good place for a tutorial that explains the necessary elements for having vb query a database and return the results?
