I know there is a function Contains that returns true if string has a certain substing in it. But is there a function that returns the count of instances of that substring inside another string.
View 6 RepliesI am going to have a series of numbers, I want to count how many times each unique number exists in the results.For example if I have this string" "1, 2, 3, 5, 3, 7, 1" I want to know the number 1 appears 2 times, the number 2 appears 1 time, the number 3 appears 2 times, the number 5 appears 1 time, and the number 7 appears 1 time.I want to load this up into a datagrid each unique number will be stored in a column named acct the number of times the number appeared in the string will be stored in a column named numref?
View 3 RepliesI was hoping someone could assist with the following coding; I am trying to search a very large csv file (approx 200,000 lines) for a user defined string eg "0100020789" and I essentially want to print all the lines that contain this to a text box on screen. Please not that the csv file does not have standardised column headings, each line is different. There would be approx 5 lines that contain the input string.
I am concerned with the v large csv i am using which will prob slow everything down, but then I thought if simple text pad application can search for a string in complete files with similar sizes like that and return a result in less than 1second, then it must be do-able.
(using vb.net) On our intranet site we have an app that loads customer or vendor information and then allows the users to edit info and add/update/delete contacts. I'm not sure what really changed to this program lately, but I keep getting this error:
Method not found: 'Int16 DBLayer.DBTools.ExecuteNonQuery(System.String, DB)'.
This occurs when i try editing any customer info and the vendor contacts, but the program works when I try editing the vendor info/addy. Here's the program code. There's a seperate program on our webserver that contains the classes used. Here's the main code that calls the classes:

I have an exe that runs from the server. The instances are shown on the server. So the questionis how can I get the following code to count the instances on the server.

Right now im using code to count the instances of certain letters in column named "status" the problem is i use a filter to filter them by the date they were entered, but the counter gets ALL the instances in the DB not just the ones displayed in the datagridview.[code]...

For example, if I show my form1 two times then there must be a counter for my form1 and if I also shown my form2 another counter for form2.I want to do this to minimize the instances of forms to be shown so that my resources will not burden to much.I want my code to be generic so that I can easily call it for my other forms.

I would like to make a simple code that counts the top three most recurring lines/ text in a txt file then saves that line/ text to another text file (this in turn will be read into AutoCAD's variable system).Forgetting the AutoCAD part which I can manage how do I in VB.net save the 3 most recurring lines of text each to its own text file see example below:

I have this assignment that says: Create an application to let the user enter a sentence, then calculate how many words there are in that sentence. I know how to count the "Char" in a word (using .Length), but for this assignment, I really have no idea how to count the words in a sentence. What kind of method am I supposed to use for this particular assignment?

I have the following search code which works fine. However, I have an additional task to do, which is create a count function for the Record found or Record not found. Presently what it does is it searches and if a record is found it displays at the tooltip "Record Found" if not it says "Record Not found". However, sometimes you have 2 or more records. Therefore, the tooltip should say the exact amount of records found.. For example, 3 Records Found or even 5 Records Found. Also if only one record is found it says "Record Found" but if more it should display " 2 Records Found".

I am getting a
"Method not found: 'Boolean MyCompany.LibraryAssembly.SomeFunction (System.String)'"
Exception/error when running a VB.NET console application. The method is part of an external assembly and it is definitely in the assembly. The error only occurs at runtime when I go to enter the function that calls the method. I have the assembly referenced by my project and I am not copying it locally. Intellisense shows no errors, and neither does the compiler. I am loading the assembly statically not dynamically. I reference the from a local folder (not the GAC) although the same version is also available from the GAC.
I am getting an error when I try and run my service. I made sure everything in the project is VB .NET 2.0.This service used to work, but we have been making code updates... I did some research but I do not see anything relevant. Does this error mean that my function cause the issue? Or is it the List that is the issue?
