I am running a test program for VB.NET, and it will simply crunch a million numbers in for loop. I've linked a variable implying the progress of the for loop with the progress bar, but it seems that when I run the program, the progress bar does not update itself. The bar itself has only value 0-100 as input (as stated in the document) and I've tested it without using the for loop, and it works.

I am needing a way that an if statement stored inside of an array can be executed.I am designing an application that will allow users to input if statements that will be used to determine if certain values are met. The input is saved to an array that I need to be executed later. Is this possible in Visual Basic?

I've taken up learning vb.net having come from a C# background.
I was trying to reprogram a simple C# winforms program I had, which took command line parameters to determine what it did. In C#, there is always a main method to accept these arguments.
From what I've read, vb.net implements a main method for you once you specify the starting form, unless you make one yourself. Which is fine, but the one I've implemented seems to get ignored, I've put break points in to see if the code even get looked at, but nothing. The main sub is in the class declaration of the startup form like so[code]...

I'm returning to my old question since I've never been able to find an answer.
For example I have a class library A with a method Method, is there a way to load this assembly from my application B and execute this method (A.Method) without putting a reference to assembly A?
My idea isn't that the idea behind System.Reflection?
So far, I can only load the assembly, I can even enumerate classes, members, etc, but I cannot figure out how to invoke methods and read property values.

I'm building a dynamic query in my ASP.NET MVC project by the following: [code]Where basically the strWhere is a string that I build up a dynamic filter depending on what the user selects to search on.This works great until I need to add a date comparison to the date clause.[code]Which will end up as:"SELECT VALUE userInfos FROM MyDBEntities.UserInformations AS userInfos Where userInfos.BirthDate <= 10/09/1992"..But when i try to execute the query with the ToList whenever a date is in the where string i get the following error:The argument types 'Edm.DateTime' and 'Edm.Int32' are incompatible for this operation. Near WHERE predicate, line 1, column 103.

Why does my the declaration of my string in the code result in the following error? Is there a workaround?
Code:
<script runat="server">
Protected Sub form1_Load(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs)
Dim x As String = "</script>"
[code]....
Error: Statement cannot appear within a method body. End of method assumed.
Note: The following page did not fix my issue and instead resulted in the string </script> being output in my page. ( VB.NET hates </script> tag in string literal )

In my application, I have a call for an update to a table on my database. I know that it is executing because I get a 1 returned when checking the number of rows affected but when I look on the DB the value is not updated - I have refreshed and still no update. Here is the code, taskgrp_template is type bit and taskgrp_id is type integer. Id is also set to the correct value, as the result of my tracepoint - results listed below code.
mycmd.CommandText = "UPDATE p2_taskgroups SET TASKGRP_template = 1 WHERE TASKGRP_ID =" & id
rowsChecked = mycmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Tracepoint result: the value of id is 55 and the value of templateCheck is 14 the number of rows affected was 1

I am using VB.Net 2008 and ADO.Net to do a Batch Update to our Oracle database. The updates are working, but there is a trigger on the table before the row is updated to enforce a member's termination termination date. So if I was trying to set the termination date (via the batch update) to 31-Jan-2010 but the member had a claim that was processed on 2-Feb-2010 the trigger would force the termination date to be 2-Feb-2010. However, the trigger is NOT executing when the batch update runs?Is there any Oracle DB Admin option that would disable Triggers on Batch Update?

I'm writing something that will examine a function and rewrite that function in another language so basically if inside my function F1, i have this line of code var x=a.b(1) how do i break up the function body into symbols or "tokens"?I've searched around and thought that stuff in System.Reflection.MethodInfo.GetMethodBody would do the trick however that class doesn't seem to be able to have the capabilities to do what i want..dit 2:basically what I'm trying to do is to write a program in c#/vb and when i hit F5 a serializer function will (use reflection and) take the entire program (all the classes in that program) and serialize it into a single javascript file. of course javascript doesn't have the .net library so basically the C#/VB program will limit its use of classes to the .js library (which is a library written in c#/vb emulating the framework of javascript objects)

I am using a .Net JavaScript implementation called Jurassic to run user-controlled scripts within my .Net 4 WPF application coded in VB.Net - C# answers are fine. The script engine runs on its own thread and provides an API for the script to interact with my application. This all works really nicely until a user executes a script that causes an infinite loop and takes out a core of the processor.
[Code]...
The reason I care about keeping the thread alive is because the user who wrote the script and the user who is running it may not be the same, and I want to keep the experience as smooth as possible the the user running the thread. There also might be legitimate situations in which a single JavaScript function would run for a long time and I do not want to kill that, I just want to stop being allowed to hog the resources.
Solutions that involve stopping the thread from slowing down the system but that still show high CPU usage are not preferable because I do not want the user to wrongly feel that the application is resource intensive.

I have a problem when updating the source of an ASP ListBox in an AJAX update panel. When I set the source of the ListBox to a large dataset, I would assume it would take a small amount of time to render due to the number of items. However, when the DataSource is switched at run-time to a smaller set of items, it takes just as long to clear it. If you go from a small set of items to a small set of items this is lightning fast. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm using the Visual Studio 2008 item template for an AJAX 1.0-Enabled ASP.NET 2.0 Web Application. I downloaded that from Microsoft.
Here is my code (Full source zip below):

I've written a small application that keeps track of my thesis notes and essentially I have a few textboxes for keywords, ideas and notes. When I type in the textboxes and hit my update button it works fine...when I cut and paste from a text editor into the textboxes and then hit my update button it takes way to long to return control to the form. Is there something I need to do to text that is copied and pasted into a text box before I send it to the database?

Dim q = From staff In db.StaffRecords Where staff.Employee_Number = sr.Employee_Number Select staff
oldSr = q.First
oldSr.Address_Line1 = sr.Address_Line1

The helper function I have written seems to do everything I want apart from update the db. Stepping through the code, the oldSr is updated by the new sr parameter but no update on submit changes.

I have a form with comboboxes, if the user doesnt select a value in the box I want a null to be sent to the database. The insert works fine, i look at the record in the db and see the null. The update doesnt work. gives me a n "Update statement conflicted with foreign key constaint....."
Public Sub Update()
TableAdapterCreate().Update(ID1, ID2, CType(cbox1.SelectedValue, Integer), CType(cbox2.SelectedValue, Integer), CType(cbox3.SelectedValue, Integer), CType(cbox4.SelectedValue, Integer),
[CODE]...
As I step through the selected value of the cbox 5 is shown as nothing (which it should be because the user didnt select a value for this combobox). I assume this needs to be a null instead of nothing to get written to the database. the combox boxes need to match a primary key in another table so sending a 0 would also result in the forieign key error since the related table does not have a 0 ID field.

I am wondering how do I update a Progress Bar that resides in Form1 (for example) from a newly created class called from the Button in Form1. I have read several tutorial about backgroundworker. Most of the googled tutorials have their "long process code" in the do_work event. I have tried them and got it working from within the form itself.
However, there are 2 parts (long process) in which I wish to incorporate the updating of the progress bar; First one being a long sub routine that is in the main form (Form1). The second one is another long processing function that resides in a class. It is the second one that is giving the problem as I have no idea how to call the backgroundworker.reportProgress() to update the UI.
Here is the sample flowchart that I have created for the second long processing function:
I wish to insert a new instruction that says "Update the Progress bar that is in Form1" after the current instruction "Store the member into a collection".
