.net - Why Does ASP ListBox Take So Long To Render In AJAX Update Panel

I have a problem when updating the source of an ASP ListBox in an AJAX update panel. When I set the source of the ListBox to a large dataset, I would assume it would take a small amount of time to render due to the number of items. However, when the DataSource is switched at run-time to a smaller set of items, it takes just as long to clear it. If you go from a small set of items to a small set of items this is lightning fast. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm using the Visual Studio 2008 item template for an AJAX 1.0-Enabled ASP.NET 2.0 Web Application. I downloaded that from Microsoft.

We have two update panels on our webpage. Now first update panel is having button cancel. While second update panel is having a file upload control.Now if the user uploads a file that is going to upload in about 2 mins, and in between, say after 30 seconds the user clicks the cancel button, the upload taking place in update panel 2 should stop.

I have a project with a canvas that the user can zoom and pan using the mouse. The origin is marked with a blue cross running through the canvas. As the user zooms in the line width of the markers is reduced to keep the them about 1 pixel wide on screen. However, after zooming in about 10x the origin lines abruptly disappear. It seems like the rendering engine is deciding that the line is too small to be displayed before applying the scaling transform.
What is strange is that when I do the same operation to a rectangle instead of a line I get the expected behavior (see the ScaleBox rectangle object in the code below). Any ideas on what is causing the problem and how to fix it would be welcome.

Here is a screenshot as 10x Zoom. The origin lines have disappeared abruptly, but the black box still shows up as expected. (Note that only one side of the black box is visible because the rest is outside the visible region because of the zoom.)

However, I recently tried to use it in a repeater. Essentially my company wants to have a number of different values displayed as the main repeater (no problem setting that up). When the user clicks on a field within that repeater, they would like the collapsible panel to open up and display the detail information for that piece of data. The details are within a sub repeater.The repeater functionality and the child repeater functionality are working perfectly. So the repeater and the child repeater aren't the issue. If I take the collapsible panel extender out the data displays perfectly.The problem is that once I start opening and closing the panels, the screen rendering starts to go crazy, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it.
For example, on the initial screen rendering I get seven entries. They look perfect. Each of the seven line up across the screen and no extraneous data is shown.I click to open the first row, and it displays great. No problem. But when I then click it again to close the first row, I only see the first four rows of data, then a huge white space with a few seemingly random characters, then the next 2 rows, a smaller whitespace, then the seventh row. I click to open the first row again and everything looks exactly as it should again. Again close, again 4 rows, whitespace, 2 rows whitespace, last row.I reload the page and everything is ok.
So now I click on the second row to open it and everything looks perfect. I close the second row and I get the exact same result.Has anyone ever tried to use the ajax collapsible panel inside a repeater? If so, have you encountered strange rendering behavior such as this? I am trying to implement an update panel on my web page. when I add this, everything works fine:

This will cause the event to not occur. If i change the "<" from the string, all is well. why cant I have "<" in my strings? This is important because i wont allow me to put an xml string in the text box.

Is it possibel to use update panels and update progress controls in windows application or is that reserved for web apps only. I am looking at applying some progress controls (like a spinning wheeel etc) when loading a crystal report that take about 30+ seconds.

I have an update panel that has a table in it with 4 images. Every few seconds a new image is shown. All this works but when the image changes the whole page is refreshed. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and VB.Net 3.5.I only want the images in the updatepanel to refresh. How can I do that?

I have a label inside an update panel which I wouldl ike to use as a status bar.Basically the user clicks a button which executes a main fucntion that performs a series of tasks. I'd like to inform the user as to the state of the function as it progresses e.g.:
Stage 1: Retrieving data...
Stage 2: Calculating values...
Stage 3: Printing values...
Stage 4: Done!
I've tried updating the updatepanel directly from the function but it only updates the panel at the end of function (stage 4) and shows "Done!" (which I understand is how it should work).I've been looking into timers and threads to try and update the panel separate to the main function?

I have some update panels on my page that do some asyncpostbacks to keep some dropdownlists correctly populated. My problem is that on my page i have an HTML input that is handling some file uploads. With the AJAX on the page with asyncpostbacks, and while i step through my code behind, the files arent being uploaded. Using a postbacktrigger (non-async) is not possible because of my layout.

I've written a small application that keeps track of my thesis notes and essentially I have a few textboxes for keywords, ideas and notes. When I type in the textboxes and hit my update button it works fine...when I cut and paste from a text editor into the textboxes and then hit my update button it takes way to long to return control to the form. Is there something I need to do to text that is copied and pasted into a text box before I send it to the database?

I am running a test program for VB.NET, and it will simply crunch a million numbers in for loop. I've linked a variable implying the progress of the for loop with the progress bar, but it seems that when I run the program, the progress bar does not update itself. The bar itself has only value 0-100 as input (as stated in the document) and I've tested it without using the for loop, and it works.

i have 2 controls on a form. Panel1 and picturebox. I am using the following code to zoom in.
