I'm using Visual Basic Express 2008 (VB.NEt). I've created a project which
connect to a Microsoft Access Database (OLEDB) & displays the records using textboxes in the windows app.
I need to add a button which exports the database to a fixed length text file. Does anyone know the code I would use to do this?
I encounter some problems when doing coding of backup file by copy and paste the database(Microsoft Access File) to another directory. Example, textbox1 will show the path of file that I want to backup, textbox2 will show the path I want to copy to. I need 1 button for browsing the file and another button for make confirmation of the path that I want to copy to.
View 2 RepliesI've installed the Microsoft Access Database Engine in order for an app to read and update and Excel file using OLEDB on a 64bit operating system. It all still works fine on 32 bit however i get a "Failure Creating File" error on a 64 bit machine.I'm using the following connectionstring(VB.Net) as per [URL]:
lstrConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C: empexcelfile.xlsx;Extended Properties=""Excel 12.0;HDR=YES"";"
I have a dataset (WW1Dataset) with one data table(WW1).(database used in an access database) I'm trying to filter the dataset e.g a user wants to filter by a chosen surname (SurnameTextBox.text) so the datset is filtered to display only those records wherethe surname column in the dataset matches SurnameTextBox.text.
View 1 RepliesI'm using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, so I have a combobox that gets filled with items from a data base made with Microsoft Acces, the combobox is filled with the values stored in a column from a table in de database so the user can select an "option" from it, I want to add labels that show the values for the corresponding row of that column. I used the Data Source panel to drag and drop the labels corresponding to the values that I want and it works it show the value that I want when I compile the application (at least I think it does, it could be that it's only selecting the first entry) the problem is that when I select a diferent entry on the combobox the labels don't refresh with the new values. How can I do that?
edit
how does Visual Basic Populates de combobox and gets the value of the other Acces DB entrys to change the .text value of the labels? And I mean the actual code that does that.
I've included an MS Access database in my WPF VB app, and I'm trying to link the data to an XCEED Datagrid. I have the following code in my testerDataSet.Designer.vb file which I assume is the funcion I should be referencing
Public ReadOnly Property Contact() As ContactDataTable
Get
Return Me.tableContact
End Get
End Property
I'm trying to get it to fill my datagirid using this
<Grid.Resources>
<xcdg:DataGridCollectionViewSource x:Key="cvs_contacts" Source="{Binding Path=Contact, *Source={x:Static testerDataSet}*}"/>
</Grid.Resources>
[Code] .....
What I'm trying to achieve is for the datagrid to display the data in the Contact datatable.
I'm currently doing a project that includes access 2010 My question will be what driver can I use for an access 2010 *.accdb type file? For a *.mdb it works perfectly well with
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
But, when I changed the mbd to accdb:
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.accdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.accdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
It resulted in errors:
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'.
ERROR[IM006][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]SQLSetConnetAttr failed
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'
And then it shows me that my code for
If dsLogin.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 1 Then
IndexOutOfRangeException was unhandled
Cannot find table 0
I knew it must be the driver but I don't know what accdb driver I can use for the connstring.

I have vb .net windows form application that I want to connect to Microsoft access database using "Microsoft DAO 3.6 object library". My problem is that when I go to Project tab -> Add reference -> COM tab, there should have been "Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library" on the list, but for some reason It's not on the list. Then I googled, and found out that the location of "DAO360.DLL" is "Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDAO". After clicking on Browse tab, I browsed to that location, and I guess I added reference on another way.This is the code that I used before for connecting to Access, but for some reason It doesn't work this way on this PC.

View 2 Repliesim just starting to work with some database stuff, and ive got data binding done but im a little stuck with filtering. Ive got a test project, which has
-- listbox (bound to column 2/firstname)
-- Combo box (Has items added, with the same names as the items in colunm 3. so it has 'RPG' and 'Puzzle')
Now what im trying to do is when the item in the combobox is changed say to 'RPG' only items in the db which have 'RPG' in the surname column are displayed in the listbox. Been Google'ing and reading but all i can find is examples relating to a dataview and i cant get them to work/adapt to my situation.
I'm attempting to build a website and I would like to save values to my Microsoft sql database that are profile properties and them access them to display lifetime stats or totals from playing my websites games. So I think I'm attempting to use the profile object and I need to save a points total and be able to access that via the current user of the page. You're supposed to then be able to play my simple games and each win or loss should update some of those properties. I've been on this step for weeks on end and have spent over 100 hours not getting a single line of code produced and am running out of options to read, and re-read to attempt this.
View 1 RepliesThis is probably a pretty novice design question. I'm trying to work my way through a number of requirements and give the users the experience they're looking for.I've written a tool that does big calcluation-type things. It currently consists of a class library and command line tool (separate .NET projects.) We're using an Access database format as the file type because it can keep all the various tables together in one file. A few other items about the application: There are not many users. There are no concerns with scalability. There are not great concerns with updates. Desktop is desired. Not web.Using VB and .NET 3.5 SP1
I now need to develop a GUI front end that will allow typical File/Open and File/Save type operations.Users expect that they can open a file, edit it some, then either choose to save it or close it unsaved without any changes being written back to the file. Saving it would obviously save all changes affecting all tables back to the file.
Does it then make sense to use a temp file for something like a proxy then? To, when a user "opens" a file, copy the source Access file to a local temp file and then use that for the editing session? Then, if the user "saves", copy the local temp file back to the source path?
Update: [tagged with ms-access tag too] Also, I omitted the fact that users would expect typical File / Save As functionality too. I think the design I've put in question in this post is what is traditionally called the Proxy design pattern. Has anyone tried this (successfully!) with Access database files before? Words of caution or advice?

Below is the code i use to fill the dataset from .csv file :
string connstr = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0;Data Source=" + System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(arrFilesName[iCount].ToString()) + ";Extended Properties = 'text;HDR=YES;FMT=Delimited'";
OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connstr);

I also looked at the other option i.e. Micorosft.Office.Interop.Excel but that also needs Excel installed.So, I would like to know that, is there a way to read a .csv file without having Microsoft Excel install on the machine.
I'm using the Visual Basic Express edition 2008 and I'm not able to save the changes to the dataset as well as dataset. While the application is running. I can see the changes are made in the table but the moment I close the application and check the data in the Dataset in the right window or the data in the database in the left window, I see no changesI have also tried the Update property of Table Adapter but no use. I have done Endinit, AcceptChanges everything but moment I clode the application no changes are reflected in dataset or databse.

I'm entering the data into the database table with text boxes and making a new row and adding it the the table:Database2DataSet.Tables("").Rows.Add(newRow)
I have a grid view for the table, and the new row is added to the table, showing that I'm getting the new information into the table. However, I'm trying to save this new information to the database so its there after I close the program. I've tried using the following but none have worked so far.

I am taking Computing at A Level and need to create a solution for a business.I have thought of my solution which is a log of all the cars that go out on test drive for my dads motor company, i have created a database in Microsoft Access and have saved it as the usual mdb file. i have then imported this into the project and would like to use it.I have created a login form which i would like to use along side the database in the sense i would like it to check when a user enters their name and password for those two things in the database and respond accordingly. I also have created forms in which employees would enter information and then click the submit button, i need this to then place the information into a database as records under the right headings.I have tried using the program and play about a bit but i just can't understand it easily, even when i search for help i have trouble understanding what it all means.If someone could help me that would be great cheersLongy1259
