Feb 11, 2010I had to develope a program that shows a list of names and age in text editor. I am able to open the file in text editor but not getting the names and ages when typing it in the text box and clicking my "write button" or the file menu write. Everything else seems to be working fine with the exception of getting my message box twice from the event load. I don't know if the below is enough for you to assist me but this is what I should see in the text editor:

The problem is that if I save a file I get "myfile.GDL" if I overwrite that I get a new file "myfile.GDL.GDL" ect.the other problem being that the filtering in the windows save/open dialog wont show .GDL files unless I select "all files".

Feb 25, 2009I have sets of files with the similar names beginning with the same characters such as: D1A2-1.jpg, D1A2-2.jpg, D1A2-3.jpg, and D1A2-4.jpg. The set keeps changing (by adding new files of the same set up to it). I want to get the name of the current last file, for example in the set above it should be D1A2-4.jpg. How can I do this in VB2005?

Oct 7, 2009Its a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...
But i want it to save like this

Mar 11, 2010I am attempting to gather a group of file names from a directory. I am able to do this. I tested the code by having the list populate into a listbox and all desired items were added to the list.
Here is my code:

However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.

May 19, 2009i would like to know if it's possible to save text files into my app. that way there is no folder to contain those files. i'm thinking that i might need a separate form to hold such information, like creating a new textbox for each saved file and it's content, then loading the files from that form's textboxes.

Mar 20, 2012This is a new question based on the response from an older post. I needed to save a value when my app is run for the first time that would be applicable to all users who logon to the PC and use my application. The setting is only known at the time of the install so Application settings with application or user scope are unsuitable. I was advised to save the setting to an external file and save/read it as needed. The obvious choice was to save the file to the projects application path (keeping things tidy). Everything worked fine during testing but when the application is installed on a PC, the application path becomes C:program files application nameetc. When I try to execute the code that saves the file, I get a permissions denied error. I understand that it's part of the UAC control but when did it become acceptable to stop developers programmatically creating files in their own application folder?

Aug 4, 2011So I have made a text editor using rich text boxes and it is made to save/open rtf files. I have 3 issues I was hoping to get answers for...
1. Can I (and if so how) make it able to open/save text files and rtf files (so the user can choose which way to save it)?
2. I added the ability to color the words, but instead of coloring just the highlighted parts - it colors everything in the file. How do I change that so it only colors selected text?
3. I also added the dialog for Font changes, but it does not seem to work correctly. I want it to change font/size/etc of whatever is selected. Right now when I highlight stuff and then go into Font it allows the dialog box but does not actually change the font size/type/etc in the file it has open.

Mvc - Saving Files And Names To Database Table Using For Each On Request.files
Mar 9, 2012I have multiple file upload boxes on a form in my mvc3 application. Request.Files shows 3 files when I put a break point in the below function and look at it.. Problem is other than coding a counter and using a select case I dont see a way to handle saving each file name to the database column it belongs to... Is there away to assign the variable on the fly I guess you could say So that the foreach loop would drop the file in the correct column. Ie handoutFile1, handoutFile2 , handoutFile3, Etc. As it stands the below will overwrite the filename in handoutfile1 every time the loop is gone through. I thought about throwing a counter in the loop and just put a select case on it to assign the db column based on the counter number. Seems like a cheap work around though. [Code]

Jan 29, 2011i've been busy with a program and it has worked out quite well. The only thing I still want is that it is possible to customize things and save that in a text file. Normally if i want an other background for one day, i need to change it in VB or make a checkbox to do that. if i then restart the program all the settings are lost and i have to set it again. so i was wondering if the program can make a text file and put codes like 1 for theme 1 and 2 for theme 2 etc. in it, then save it and load that file when it starts up again. and is this also possible for a login form? if yes, i can also add a "Create Account" button for my program instead of adding codes in VB.

Oct 26, 2009Here is the code for my program. We are making a membership list and it needs to load with just the names in the txt file that is in the debug bin. The txt file is set up in one column and holds the member name and the next line is member number and so on. Information is read into an "array of structures" and the display is supposed to be ONLY the names in the listbox on load. This is my problem. I had it displaying all th txt file info and I just need the names. I tried what you will see in the code but it is not working and my book is less then helpful when it comes to examples and/or knowledge on the subject. Though it could be too many hours spent trying to get it to work.

5/11/2011 8:25:06 PM What I would like to happen is as below: Datefile.txt saves 5/11/2011 Timefile.txt saves 8:25:06 PM Alternative solution that can work for me would be, if the time (only the TIME) can be modified after saving as below: saved datetime into text file is 5/11/2011 8:25:06 PM
How can I modify the time only to say 12:00:00 PM. By doing so I would like to keep time as 12:00:00 but date can be changed by the user using the datetime picker.
