My problem is, I'm using a very large xml file (260MNB) and my search results takes too ong, I believe running a search against a dataset would be a lot quicker.

View 11 RepliesI have an untyped dataset which is programmatically bound to a form in vb.net 2008. The first record in the dataset is not necessarily the record the user selected to view. I need a way to, after the binding is done, move the dataset to that particular record. I have a currencymanger in play for use of displaying the current record of how many records. I think I need to do a search and find the row number of the select record and then use the CurrencyManager.postion to do this but have had no luck in 3 hours to locate anything I can use.

On one of my forms I have, esentially, a search form. What I want to happen is have a text box, and as I start typing display a search result from my customers table in the list box under it. So for example, I type "A" and all customer names that start with "A" are displayed in the list box.I continue typing with a "p" (full string is now "Ap"), then all customer names that start with "Ap" are displayed and so on...

The item in red is where i get an error. it sucessfully builds and i open the find form enter a last name that I know is in the customers table, but I get the error "Cannot find Column ["whatever name i typed inthe text box"].So first of all is this the correct way of going about what I want to achieve?If so how can I get it to work?BTW the next step for the user would be to double click the customer in the list box they are searching for to open the customer Details form for that customer, so I would need an ID or Index attached to that item to be able to open that record in another form.
My application will start (dataset filtered by username/date) and if it's the first time the user has used it today it will be a blank entry form because there is no record for today created. The user can just type data into the blank form and close it. On the form closing event I want it to run a tableadapter.insert(username, date, x,x,x).
If it starts a second time it will load showing today's entry because today's date was inserted previously when they closed the form. So this time when they close the form I want the form closing event to just run a tableadapter.updateall(dataset) command. I need some help with my form closing event...

The way we create our DataSet right now is right click on project then choose dataset and create every table then each element that makes up the table. There are at least 10 tables with over 10 elements in each.

I am trying to populate a dataset from an XML file. Within the xml file are some € signs. However, when the data is read from the XML, the € sign is displayed as a ?. Is it possible to Query or search or anything for a DBX file. We are looking to be able to pull out the Sender, Subject, Date of Arrival, Yes/No Attachment, and the body if possible of the message.
